"The difference between a struggling family and a healthy one is often the presence of an empowered woman, or women at the centre of that family. The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is often the healthy respect between men and women who appreciate the contributions each other makes to society. The difference between an languishing nation and one that will flourish, is the recognition that we need equal access to education for both boys and and girls."

    STORYLINE
US first lady Michelle Obama has visited an all-girls school in north London, telling the 240 girls about growing up on Chicago's south side, and urging them to think of education as "cool."
Mrs. Obama told students at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington, north London, that as a student she never cut class and enjoyed getting good grades and being smart.
She also told the students that strong families, and strong countries often start with a strong woman at the centre.
At the end of the visit, Mrs. Obama doled out hugs to the students, and was swarmed by them - so much so that some Secret Service agents stepped nervously forward.
