ACCEPTED Art Portfolio 2019 (LASALLE, NAFA) // Diploma in Animation

- Back when I was looking up on accepted animation portfolios for NAFA and LASALLE to see the standard and use as reference, next to nothing came up. So now, I'm posting my own portfolio in hopes of helping other aspiring art students who might want to attend these two schools (like I used to be).
*Just a note that this is for diploma course so it will be easier to get accepted into as compared to degree courses
I ended up choosing to go to LASALLE since it had been my dream school for four whole years T.T This was the exact portfolio that was shown to LASALLE (Diploma in Animation) that got me accepted (with a scholarship!)
As for NAFA (Diploma in Illustration Design with Animation), since they only allowed a maximum of 15 pieces for the portfolio and was due much earlier, I had to cut alot of pieces out. These were the ones I included in my accepted NAFA portfolio:
1. Tessellations 0:12
2. Ink Wash, Left 0:25
3. Harry Potter in Pastels 0:27
4. Teachers' Day Portraits 0:30
5. O'Level Prepwork 0:40
6. O'Level Final 0:43
7. A Witch transforms into a Bird Animation 0:47
8. A Witch and a Swamp Monster (both sketch and final digital piece) 0:53
9. First Meeting (both sketch and final digital piece) 0:58
10. Daughter Earth 1:00
11. Tablemates 1.03
12. 2 more pieces not included here XD (but I don't think they really made a difference)

hi, can you make an video on what the process was to apply into lasalle. I am currently a sec 4 student and i dont even know when to apply, this year or next year, for year 2022
Hii I was actually planning to make a video but i found out that they actually changed the application process right after my batch so i scrapped that plan. Now there is no more interview and you just send in your portfolio online. However some things are still the same so here are some tips:
- apply during open house as it will be free then
- if you are applying for the august intake of 2022, your application will be during Jan-Feb of 2022
- take part in jae as a backup in case you dont get in (you can always withdraw from poly/jc and get a refund of the fees)
- try to showcase your technical skills in your portfolio (eg. Realistic art)
- dont be afraid to email the school to clarify!

I joined LASALLE mainly because they had the degree programme that you could continue to after diploma XD

Yep I brought my laptop and the interviewers just clicked through the powerpoint. Now the portfolios are all sent online since there’s no more interview for animation anymore

thanks for sharing! I have a question to ask if you are willing to reply, do you think it's easy to upgrade yourself from diploma to BA (animation)in Lasalle? I'm thinking to apply for diploma as well since my skills are far not there for BA standards. But I'm also scared if I can't upgrade myself from diploma to BA. Any advice?
Hii usually there should be no problem continuing to BA after diploma (in fact its much easier as the lecturers already know you and your work). You just have to complete your diploma first, theres no need to worry.

Back then i didnt have to upload my portfolio, I went to the school for a physical interview and just showed my portfolio there in person XD My animations were actually pretty short so i just placed them into my presentation as gifs and they would play on loop automatically. I think both the options u mentioned would be possible too tho!
umm how is fanart accepted as portfolio material? I thought that was not allowed?

Hii even before covid started, for local applications there is no more interview. You just have to submit an online portfolio
Hi, Do you need to have a portfolio that is related to the course that you want to apply?
It depends on what you mean cuz you definitely need illustrations for animation but you don’t necessarily need to have to show any animation at all. So long as you show you know your art and drawing foundations. And if you don’t have a portfolio you could always opt for their admission test instead

thank you for sharing your portfolio with us🥺right now i’m a sec 4 NA student and i am not sure if NAFA/ LaSalle would be a good choice...and i am not sure if both schools requires a portfolio for NA students 😭
Currently there’s a NAFA foundation programme for 4 NA so you don’t need to go for sec5 just to go into a art school :) application starts in October! It’s ELMAB3 15 and below

@@kristinasorokina2741 Sec 5 is like another year spent in high school for N(A) students to take O lvls, more important for people who would like to go Junior college to go to a specific University. N(A) is just a level lower than express
Hi, i'm an international student and i plan to apply to Lasalle animation art BA this year. I try to look for BA portfolio but coudn't find any 🥲 But may i ask how exactly you summit your portfolio? Like on a website or is this video what you sumit? I try to read for information but is still not clear. Also, i never did any animation before, is it acceptable if my portfolio only include drawings and none animations? Hope you will reply, i really don't know who to ask anymore 😭sorry if it may seem a little difficult to understand, i'm not really sure how to word my concern
Hi animation isn't necessary for your portfolio. Im not sure about international as I did a in person group interview in singapore. I didnt need a portfolio for BA since I went straight from Diploma. You can ask me more questions on my instagram @hillareiart

I applied for diploma straight out of secondary school after olevels. I do plan to continue onto bachelors tho

Hi not sure if it is still the case right now but while I was applying, you could choose between submitting a portfolio or taking an admissions test
