- Dallas, Texas, USA - 1993 Skate America, Men's Free Skate - First a profile on Brian Boitano of the United States, followed by his Free Skate, where he placed 2nd and ended up winning the Silver Medal here. Today's and tomorrow's generations of skaters should pay close attention to Brian's spread eagles and his death drop and see that THAT'S how these moves are done...the death drops done these days are so woefully small.

He didnt have to tell me to look at Brian's eyes...I have been unable to take my eyes off them in decades. That man is connected to someone above himself. We love you, Brian.
Brian, In case you ever read this, I'd like to say I admire that you never became complacent and always strove to improve upon your best.
Incidentally, I've been watching figure skating for over 30 years and this is the first time I cried because I felt a skater's connection and dedication to his edgework and posture.
I agree, some of these death drops from the skaters now don't even look like death drops, way to small and lack of height. Brian was the best at this. I will always love him and Scotty for that matter.
Nobody does a spread eagle like Brian!
You are so right, Brian is awesome and his height is unbelievable, the spread eagle and death drops are AMAZING. I don't know how he doesn't fall over on the spread eagle.
I'm a 5'11" female. Boitano is my height. My other favorite, Christopher Dean is 5'10". A tall frame is not suited for gymnastics or flickering rapidity. But length of bone has more advantages than picking apples. It provides a frame for more long lean muscle, more leverage, more extension, more counterbalance. Boitano and Dean have done the work but they have also leaned to use their attributes to full advantage. I love to watch their style of skating for it is so very masculine, powerful, intense, and elegant.
I totally agree, he is aweome, the death drop and spread eagle are amazing.
The best and strongest body in mens figure skating. Also: I detest the way the Russinas gloat when someone gets screwed on marks. They knew he killed it!
Death drop at 7:43...I know that's what y'all are waiting for. Nobody does it like Brian Boitano
That 2nd triple axel was his nemisis all year. It also cost him the U.S title.
While I like this program layout and musicality, I can see why he changed it to add the second flip and more technical merit.. had he simply hit the second triple axel here and the US Nationals he would’ve won..
He just kept messing with his program up until the Olympics and I thought this was already a beautiful program. Should have just left it alone IMO.
Brilliant!
Galina Zmievskaya's victorious reaction was priceless!
If he had followed the same setup as his first triple axel then he wouldve won each competition cuz aside from the short at olympics that setup is gonna always result in a solid axel. apparently he didnt get that until the olympics long. after the pro/am i think he just began to crumble under the pressure. the layout and choreography at the pro/am was exquisite and he shouldve stuck with it except changing the setup for the second axel. the footwork sequence before the second flip was so breathtaking and right to the music it was perfection but he destroyed it at nationals and olympics.
boitano is the man
