Back in the 60's l had a border collie cross that used to clear our local brook of rocks in exactly the same way. Never had to put a lead on her either,best dog ever 😢
I had a pit bull that used to dive I think they all will if you start them early in shallow water but my JD once dove in lake Anna in Virginia I was throwing rocks and he was bringing them back until he wasn't coming up I was ready to jump in when here he comes with a half a sheet of plywood that was stuck on the bottom that's what took him so long to break the seal of the mud they can do just about anything best dogs that I've ever had
I have seen dogs diving a lot back when I worked as a duck and goose hunting guide and me and my Dad raised and trained Labrador retrievers. Ducks would dive under tree roots and the labs would catch them under the roots and bring them back.
I had a bulldog boxer mix that used to dive down deep for rocks .. pull them up on the beach and go back for more ... He'd do this all day if I didn't stop him.. Miss that dog he looked like Petey from little rascals.

It call ai😂😂😂. Most dog could hold they breath for 5 to 10 seconds. The longest breed is Retriever that could hold it for 3 minutes.

I had a diving dog years ago. A chihuahua, she would go underwater for rocks.
I had two Rottys that also loved the water. One would drag my children back to shore if the swam out to far. Always on guard for my children’s safety.
