Ariel is one of those few players who truly got it. Everything he plays is exactly on point. He’s gotten to a point where he can’t play anything bad. He’s just better and more clever than the rest of us. Period.
E W I didn't know this guy did videos with Andertons,he would be a refreshing change from flipping chappers,he's starting to do my head in,he thinks he's a star and he isn't
brother matt - as i get older, i understand less and less why people lean so heavily on comparing to give their own opinions weight. i'll never forget a time when i was falling into doing just that when a wise friend simply said 'its not a competition" . to add to that, i find those who insist on it being one have lost the plot right out of the gate. i am not an advanced player, but i get such a great personal satisfaction from playing every night, getting better happens without care. plus my kids think it sounds good so win/win.
@@mattbortz10 are they boxing? Or wrestling? Why is he getting destroyed? And he is easily on the same level as Derek trucks. I like to imagine it as a sort of garden of Eden of guitarist, one you get good enough you’re in and everyone is just jamming.
"Just like that..." - Ariel Posen. Yeah, right! There's good then there's great guitar playing. I may be good but he is great. Something a little beyond mastery.
Monster tone and soulful playing my friend! What string gauge are you using with the strat in standard tunning? They sound heavier than 13 thorough 56 set. If so, how high from the fretboard are they? Thank you for your kind sharing.
TL, he's tuning *down* (not up!) to open C, and so you'd need some heavy strings to prevent buzzing and weird noises from strings hitting the frets. Otherwise, with lighter, more normal string sets, tune up to open E (assuming you have a guitar that can safely handle the tension) and you *might* be able to get a clean slide tone. A Gibson type bridge is helpful because you can easily raise the height of all 6 strings at once. PS, Open E might be kinda rough on a fragile or valuable acoustic guitar; try slightly heavier strings and tune down to open D (DADF#AD) or open G (DGDGBD). Dobro or lap-steel G tuning, GBDGBD, is a whole 'nother thing, tons of string tension there!
This is day three of slide lesson. Day one is how to always mute the strings with your playing hand. It took me ten years to isolate individual strings just cause I tried to strum, pluck as I do with out slide. Pluck one string at a time, muting the others with your remaining fingers, then watch this video and have a blast.
Muting is not the first, most important thing. Learning how to play a note (or notes) in tune is first. Muting is one of many techniques that enhance slide/bottleneck guitar. Correct intonation and learning where to fret those notes in order to do that comes first and foremost. That and just figuring out how to make a note -any note - and how the slide works. It's a totally different animal than how you play fretted notes.
It's less raspy or gritty on the wound strings. A smoother sound. I guess a fair comparison might be to say if you play a brass slide then a glass one on the unwound strings, it's a little like that when you go from round wound to flat wound (with the same slide). There's no real change in the unwound strings, of course. I tried flat wounds but ended up preferring tr he slightly raspier sound of a glazed ceramic slide on round wound strings. It's all personal preference.
I started playing slide on my pinky and was pretty decent, then realized my slide fit better on my ring and got to be even more proficient at that. but seeing this guy with his cool on off slide with chord voicings thing makes me wanna go back to my pinky. fuckin jerkkkk
Sub Prime you do realise that he does a whole section of the video with his Suhr in standard tuning? But most of they great slide players play (or played) in opening tunings, so it would have been more unusual if this great guitar player didn’t use open tunings when playing slide.
He's just showing off without telling you how he acheives each sound. For example pressing the string with a finger behind the slide to get an extra note. He plays it, but doesn't tell you what he is doing!
Can we please get rid of the term 'Masterclass'? It's not like he's a High Priest or whatever, who has been studying this discipline in a cave for the last 20 years, and is now sharing his profound knowledge. He's just a good slide Player sharing some tips.

I guess Im quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
And handsomer.
@@OrphanRecordingHX Goes without saying!
One of the best musician out there for slide or regular playing. His Anderton's videos are awesome!

Amazing tone and intonation. This is guy is world class. I'd love to hear him jam with Jack Pearson or Derek Trucks.
Jeff McLeod Derek Trucks would completely destroy Ariel, he's good but certainly no Derek Trucks

I would love to see a Hotlicks dvd or Ariel playing and teaching slide. He is awesome !
That last lick...sweet man!
That's a great looking guitar - like the blue & tortoise
I don't know who you are but that's a killer slide lesson. Well done.
6:04 is a sacred steel sound. A lot of lap steel players Robert Randolph etc...
Love the open C licks
19's, Wow dude. I am aware that heavier strings are better but lol.You are a killer player.
Great stuff, Thank you.

Absolutely grace AP
Great Video, Ariel's great! could listen to his stuff for hours. Time to dust of the slide and start annoying everyone with my buzzy practice. lol
Incredible.
Beautiful

Every time his right hand went out of focus I cried I little bit 😂
great one ! thanks Ariel !!!
Great tutorial ! Time for and invite from Eric Clapton to join the next Crossroads Festival and have a jam together with Derek Trucks
Ariel posen is a true hardworking musician. This lesson showcased an honest artist's masterclass. Super relatable and informative. Thank you!
Best advice ive ever seen on slide guitsr zi really appreciate this video needed this so bad lol
Using his thumb to mute the other strings while picking is genius. I'm going to try that.
Hei Ariel! What kind of amps do you normaly go for when playing slide guitar? What do you look for in an amp for slide guitar?
Awesome, thank you
is that a collings guitar?
_What was that from __2:43__ to __2:59__?_ 😱😱😱😱😱😱
Great player. Had a thought...What would slide on flatwounds sound like?

Hi Ariel what string you suggest to use?
19's? Does the nut have to be seriously re-filed and then does that prevent going back to 10's without getting a new nut?
What guage strings is he playing?
What kind of guitar is he playing?
What brand is his slide
David Winter Rockslide! It’s his sig slide
What tuning is he in
mean chops
I started playing slide on my pinky and was pretty decent, then realized my slide fit better on my ring and got to be even more proficient at that. but seeing this guy with his cool on off slide with chord voicings thing makes me wanna go back to my pinky. fuckin jerkkkk
Whats the brand of that slide?
Jay Nartz Rockslide - the bros. Landreth - Ariel Posen

Which Dump Heads can vote this great lesson negativ???
Great to learn from so sympathetic peoples!!!
Who cares, focus on the Lesson
Which guitar brand is the first one?

Give me Lowell George & George Harrison for originality..
Your like you can try, but I am the master.
What kind of SORCERY is this?!?!
Does he mean drop C or open C!?!?!?!?
James Robertson open C
I think his tuning is CEGCEG
I always assume it’s: CGCGCe
Exactly he doesn’t even bother to explain
I believe this is a baritone guitar
Thanks for tuning to open c so at least we were all on the same page.

Interesting name: Ariel is Jewish, Posen is the old name for Poznan in Poland. This city had the highest percentage of Jews in Prussia.
don't.

Anyone playing electric slide like this is in Trucks' shadow...
I'm not sold. Very off key
