  • Basic information on what you need to know on how to swap over a vic/grand marquis engine into a 99-04 GT. Some other modular 4.6L's will work from the V8 explorer, F150, Lincoln Town car, & Mercury Mountaineer depending on year however some components like the timing cover need to be transferred over. There are some things not mentioned in the video such as making sure not to use flexplate bolts on a flywheel because they are shorter and to use trans bolts from your 5 speed if you are taking an engine from an auto. Not everything can be explained and its always a good idea to use new gaskets and hardware. Flexplate bolts are torque to yield and shouldn't be reused. This video is to show the way to do it with some tips.

    Hello Justin, today is Friday, June 16th, 2023. I have an update on my GT project. The car cranks, starts, runs and is in motion. Granted, I only moved the car from one extreme of my yard to another. The reason for this is to get the car under the car porch shaded area. Where it was originally parked I would say that it was there for almost two years. The car still lacks many connections here and there. Radiator needs installation. Power steering pump needs installation. AC Compressor needs installation. AC Condenser needs installation. Some vacuum lines need mending due to heat baking making them brittle. I need to shave down the bank one exhaust manifold due to it being very close to the steering shaft (it has a horn where the EGR breather was situated). I will take a Dremel pencil grinder to that area. The car has no tailpipe. This said, when It starts, it make a shitload of noise. But nice noise nonetheless. Oh, I am currently working on the tailpipe O2 sensor set-up. It is one big hassle in 'bank one', for the EGR breather line has to be situated to run up from the tail pipe, past the firewall and connect to the EGR valve. I have made some modifications to this snake-type breather line. But it is working properly. Let's see.....After I finish the EGR valves set up I'll move to properly connect the Vacuum Solenoid valve. I'll have to make some modifications to the bracket on this too. When I'm done with this, I'll move on to the Power-steering pump. I have no idea how to put this guy back in. I don't remember how I removed it. I will do research on youtube to get this guy properly back in. In all, thank you for your support. Happy Fathers Day 2023.

I know it's been four months since the last time we spoke, but there was the process of rebuilding the tranny all by my lonesome. And then there are the mods on the engine that have to be done. I did the same swap with a 2008 Lincoln motor. Timing cover was different I just had to use a different belt when I bolted up my A/C and power steering pump. Also reused the Lincoln’s oil filter housing. So far so good. Loving the low mile engine

      @@justin.c_svt Hi Justin...There's two people that I know of that shared their experiences regarding the swaps with crown vic engines... and apparently the oil filter adapter works just fine in both performance and no problems hooking up the lower rad hose. In your opinion is that even possible?

    • @justin.c_svt
      @justin.c_svt  10 месяцев назад +1

      The angle the hose needs to attach isn’t off too far between the two adapters, but I would be hesitant that the hose could possibly kink or bend when heated coolant flows through it over time. I would think that ford made them different for a reason. The 4.6L 2V & 4V were both used in earlier Lincoln’s and ford cars since 91 and didn’t go into mustangs until 96. When ford chose to do that they obviously had to engineer that new oil filter adapter for the mustang for some reason. It might be perfectly fine but there may be a long term reason. If I had to do it over again and I didn’t have the mustang one, I might just reuse the Vic one since others have said it’s fine. You can never go wrong with putting exactly what the car came with on though.

    • @MustangFord
      @MustangFord 10 месяцев назад

      @@justin.c_svt Justin, I appreciate the reply. I agree with you, if the Mustang Oil filter adapter is available then it should be used. If not available (hard to find sometimes) then the Vic's oil filter adapter might work fine.
      From what I recall, GTs from 96-98 had a different oil filter adapter that had oil coolers built in. It wasn't until 1999 that the oil coolers were removed from the Mustang's oil adapter's design. The early GTs (96-98) oil adapters are round and has a snail like design.
      I remember people with those early GTs switching over to the new design because the old ones with oil coolers liked to leak..
      The 99-04 oil filter adapters look like both shown in this video and if you compare the Vic's to the Newedge's, they are similar in design (no oil cooler version).
      Thank you again, Justin. You are an inspiration to many people including myself.

My terminator cobras have them, and my 98 cobra had one too, but funny enough the Mach 1’s didn’t get them even though they are 4V’s. I believe the crown Vic police cars got them saw well.

    Hello, Justin, I'll try to keep it short. As of today, April 8th, 2023, the engine and tranny have been installed. Tranny has drive shaft installed too. Just need to double-check and triple check all bolts and stuff. The engine cranks and starts. Granted, it is missing many sensor being connected and the EGR valve connected making for the engine to hesitate somewhat. But it does start and rev. When I have the engine running well I'll move the GT to the shaded area of my residence and continue installing the rest of the stuff: AC stuff, radiator, tranny cooler. By then I'll be almost done. They add more torque than anything else and change the curve of where the torque comes in. I’ve had bassani’s that were really good. One thing to keep in mind is that most long tubes get in the way of dropping the transmission so if your car is a manual than it’s harder to do a clutch. You might have to loosen the headers to get the trans down.

    Man I could really use your help i recenly swapped a 04 Grand Marquis motor with 44,000 miles into my 99 Mustang Gt I heard this motor run before pulling it and it ran flawlessly. I actually watched this video prior to the doing the install. I swapped the oil pickup, oil filter housing, etc, I noticed that the location of the idler and tensioner were a little different than my original motor but figured it wouldn't make much of a difference besides having to use a different belt of course. I also reused my old intake and injectors(all new gaskets and o rings) I put all new injectors, ignition coils, sparks plugs,maf, iat sensor. Well we try to start it and we get a flashing theft light with no crank well apparently I wasn't paying attention and I grounded out the little radio noice supressor mounted on the head on the front of the motor and it blew my pcm maxi fuse(not sure if It could have maybe went farther than that?) Well i replace it we crank it and it starts up almost instantly but at idle the rpm is jumping all over the place its missing and runs really bad but if you hold it at 3k rmp or give it gas it clears up completely until it comes back down to idle car smells of raw fuel out of the driver side tailpipe so I belive its dumping extra fuel I just can't figure out why only code I have that stuck is my b1s2 which i replaced. And had a ignition coil e (cylinder 5) code but I confirmed that the coil is firing. I know this is alot but if there's any advice or something you think I should try please let me know I would greatly appreciate it its been down for a long six months and I just want my car back

      The timing cover on the 04 marquis engine I got was the same as my 03 GT but some of the pulleys were in different spots and needed to be swapped around then they were how it was on the GT. As for the running issues, it sounds like the computer is trying to compensate for false information. For example if you have a bad 02 sensor telling the computer wrong information, the computer will try and compensate with different ways like adding fuel, cutting fuel, advancing timing or whatever it thinks. So maybe a bad sensor or something and even a possibility of a wiring issue with the ECM failing. As for the engine, there shouldn’t be anything from the swap causing the issue. As far as the car knows, it still has the original engine in it because they are identical (besides the fact that the previous was made at the Windsor plant and has minor differences)

    I've watched this video many times as I'm preparing to do a very similar swap, my question if you don't mind is how did you get the coolant tube from the valley off? I have the motor loose, and everything is ready, I'm having a hell of a time getting the transmission (5 Speed) to come off the motor so I'm just going to re-bolt it back on and just get a load leveler and pull it all as one unit. I found a motor out of a grand marquis that is out of 2007 so I'm hoping that the timing cover is the same because the reason I'm even doing the swap is my original motor shredded its timing cover with chain slap. Any idea if the grand marquis timing cover is the same as on a 2002 Romeo 4.6? Thanks man you're awesome for doing this video! Subbed for sure!

      I believe that’s the right cover. I did one off an 07 or 09 I believe and it was the same as my 01 Romeo. Remember the 5 speed will require you to install a pilot bearing which is easy to pound in. Just don’t forget it. The coolant tube just twisted off easily in a back and forth motion. You can try spraying wd40 in it to help and I recommend replacing the o rings on the part the tube goes on when you are ready to install and lube the o rings so they don’t tear during installation

    Hopefully you can help me… so in a nutshell i have 99 new edge v6 that i am swapping & my grandmother has a 1994 grand marquis with a 4.6l in it, it belonged to my late grandfather who loved mustangs, low mileage & fairly well taken car of motor wise, but the body is trash, so my question is will this motor work? Im aware that its a non pi motor, but can’t i swap pi heads on or even do a 4v head swap? I just want to make sure it will fit on a t45 and if things will swap over & do you know what kind of block they had vs mustangs?

    • @justin.c_svt
      @justin.c_svt  2 года назад +2

      As far as I know yes the T45 will bolt up to any year 4.6L modular engine. A big factor in the swap
      Will be what computer you choose to go with. 90’s mustangs will have ignition wires and 99+ will have the ignition coil setup. People have been known to put PI heads on the non-PI bottom ends to gain a little power because they actually have higher compression. You will have to decide to use or eliminate the PATS system and more.

  • @Vertigoneardeath

    Hello Justin, today is Saturday, July the 16th, 2022. I have run into a speed bump. Here you go. The passenger side motor mount on my 99 GT is factory. There is a galvanized thin plate that goes in between the motor mount and K-member. Or in other words, once you bolt down the engine with the K-Member this plate has to be in between these two. I don't know if this plate is a bracket for wiring or the transmission cooling lines. But I do know that it came from this motor mount. I would say this galvanized plate is about 5" X 6". My question, which way does this plate sit? Does it sit with the bend the plate has facing toward the engine or towards the K-Member. This galvanized plate has slot for the mount screw to easily slide in. It also has a notch just to the left of the motor mount screw. This notch also slips into a slot on the galvanized plate. This said, there is only two ways this plate can sit. But only one way is correct. But I revert to my first question. By the way, the transmission has already been rebuilt. It is also coupled with the engine. Plus, the torque converter has been properly secured to the flex plate. I also installed the starter yesterday and applied some power to the starter for a few seconds and the engine turned over. This said, we are getting close to installing the power train into the GT. Do you have a facebook account? Thank you for you advice. Keep up the good work.

Anyway, I did some online research and found some picture illustration of a 3.6 or 3.8 liter Ford mustang and It shows this the galvanized sheet ears pointing towards the engine. This is the way I will install it. Thank you.

      That’s a good question. Sometimes you can. If you look up the clutch on the website where they sell it, it might say specific years that it can be used and sometimes it references 96 to 04 which would include all manual transmissions (T45 & TR3650 of the GT)

    Why change the oil pan out at all, shape looks the same

    • @justin.c_svt
      @justin.c_svt  4 месяца назад

      Because the oil pickup tube will smash the bottom of the pan and starve the engine of oil. The oil pan on the Mustang is a different depth than the Vic and the oil pickup is as well. You need to use the parts ford changed specifically for the mustang. The pan on the Vic won’t fit in the Mustang K member.

      @mfjones2217 This video is to show the right way to do the swap and everything you need to swap over so most people who do this won’t complain that that the parts are different. It’s not about how to modify and make things work. I’m not going to tell people how to modify and maybe make it work. Change the mustang specific parts over and have piece of mimd that it’s the way it should be and no short cuts were made.

      It would be very difficult to make it all work with the computer. You would have to swap everything over and still risk a lot not working. I’d just replace the V6 with another V6

Are these types of gaskets interchangeable? The seals that I have on my current intake looks like the dorman 615-175GA. I know it's an aftermarket intake manifold
