As someone who works as a designer and illustrator in children’s publishing, this gets me so excited to see you create your own picture books oh my goodness I have waited years for this haha. Seeing you so enthusiastic about it brings me so much joy!

It would be really cute if you included a little map of the world of katnip, I think there’s something a bit special about books with maps so that children get a sense of the world you’ve created xx

I also have been slowly working towards my own childrens books and one thing I found so helpful was drawing from children's books from the library. I would go to the library for a few hours and pick out some books I liked and do studies on the illustrations. It nit only helped me learn how to make good art for books but also just helped me grow as an artist. May be something to try!

You always inspire me so much Catherine, your characters and designs really are successful because of the amount of effort that goes into them, you can really see the passion and the love. I bought my first items from you last year and was really pleasantly surprised by how good quality they were, if anyone works from home and has yet to buy a mouse pad from Catherine please buy one, they're beautiful and it makes such a difference having a small bit of fun on your desk while you work :) x

I do the same thing, I get an idea and then SUDDENLY I can't sleep because so many offshoots of that idea are swirling around my head and I want to start them immediately
Julia Donaldson puts a little gruffalo in all her books somewhere like an Easter egg to find, which is super cute and fun! You should put a little something like that in them all as you go 😊
heheh I would love to do little katnipp easter eggs, like bumblebutt hidden in future books or every scene hehe

heheh good luck! Feeling bored honestly is something that is so important for inspriration, because it allows your mind the time to wander, and be creative, lately I haven't had that at all!

Catherine, I love your enthusiasm. As Mum of three, who’s children just loved library adventures and books in general. The illustration was important but the really hook was the quality of the story along side the illustration. I love everything Kapnip, and look forward to your colouring books they will also make great gifts too.❤

I loved this and yes it's good to slow down but remember this year Astrologically is crazy but in a positive way to make way for dreams coming true because of the Nodes. This year is very magical! :) Breakthroughs are good! Keep up the good work! :)

heheh I think this will definately be a big project, but I am excited to get the ball rolling with it hehe
I love the idea of wall stickers!!!! One thing to note, some stickers can peel off wallpaper or paint, so being mindful of the adheisive type would be something to look into. When my son was young (he is 27 now), I bought Blues Clues character decals that went on his wall. He loved them and I loved them too. Once he outgrew the Blues Clues phase they came off the wall with no issues. Character decals are so much fun!
hehe yes I have remmovable vinyl, hopefulyl this will be okay, but I think the most I can get is a 6 month semi permanant adhesive! That must be the most they can do, I guess the longer they are on the wall, the more they adhere over time!
Love your vlogs. My wife and I are starting a social media/merch venture and you've given us a lot of inspiration. I'd love more videos with your printer as time permits.

Welcome homeeee, hope you’re feeling a bit better now. Please when you create a colouring book please could the lines be chunky and one design per page so there’s a blank backing page for ink leaking through ❤❤❤

It was the same for me! For years I had "start a creative project" on my list of goals and for 2025 I finally didn't write it on the list. And now I feel like the project is already starting to take shape in my head. Exactly like your book project. :)
It's easy for life to get in the way and projects like this be put on the back burner amirite 😭

It's so hard to balance our creative outputs between doing it out of pure enjoyment without thinking on how we can turn them into products, and then trying to pour the creativity into coming up with products and ideas. I've been trying to dedicate a little chunk of my days only to just sit and draw with no purpose other than enjoyment; it's been quite healing so far!

BBC Maestro have a really great course with Julia Donaldson on writing picture books. Highly recommend! Also if you fancy diving in the deep end, Bologna Children's Book Fair provides a pretty fascinating (if slightly overwhelming) insight into the publishing scene. It's at the end of March and illustrators can apply for a discount on the ticket.

I would love a coloring book
Just a thought but what about a book or ideas/characters/themes including a cat with catknip? its so obvious but this could be such a huge opener for so many ideas whichever way your imagination wants to go with it.
As an artist, I have also found myself being into my phone more and I used to get upset seeing people on their phones constantly...and now I'm becoming "those" people. When I am aware, LOL, I put my phone down.
I am so bad with my phone, I was in japan, one of my favourite places on earth, but my mind was in my phone, I literally thought to myself 'what on earth am I doing?!' I am just wasting time in digital land lol 🤣
As a Mum of 3 kids who had read/bought lots of children's books I would say a lot of those books that are 10 for £10 are a bit rubbish.
Julia Donaldson is one of my favourite children's authors as she introduces some more challenging words to the children. Also, the illustrations by Axel Sheffler and Lydia Monks are great as they offer some lovely details for the children to look at to keep them interested in the story. If the pictures are too simple for the amount of words then the child can get bored before you've read the page.
I've always found the print quality and paper to be really good.
No they're not super-well known authors, but if they get kids interested in books, reading and art then it's all good.
Coloring books with stickers
How about for the stories you make with the seasons, turn the story pages into coloring pages. That’s two in one right?
How do you color grade your videos.
This is so random and I know is something that would be crazy difficult to offer but I would love to have bumble but embroidered onto a cute pastel cardigan or on a a dungaree dress I know they would be a lot more but=I would literally pay it, or even printed onto an apron. I literally don’t wear T-shirts or jumpers as it’s a sensory thing with around my neck I can’t stand. I wish i could because I would live in your apparel.

The childrens books you found so cheap are problebly from amazone. They have a self publishing option. You upload your illustrations, and they print is on demand or something like that.
She bought them from a shop called 'The Works'. Well known for their bargain books and art supplies for all ages.
Let me know if you need a beta reader. You'd be amazed how many self published books are full of typos and it just kills the professionalism of the author.
Hi! I just wanted to let you know that in the US, bugaboo is a racist term that is used in the South. I you plan to publish in the US, you should change it for that market.
