Before theology must come knee-ology! Praying is one of the most basic activities of anyone’s spiritual life. Before Paul got into the nitty-gritty of the great theological heart of this letter (the supremacy of Christ), he prayed for the believers in Colosse. What he prayed for is a good template for us in praying for other Christians. It’s eye-opening to discover the items that are on his list. (Spoiler alert: He didn’t pray for their health, finances, or relationships-though there’s nothing wrong with that.) Paul’s prayer requests were more basic, more to the heart of core issues.

Matthew 6:5-13 will sum up how to pray in 30 seconds.
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing(B) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(C) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(D) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(E) 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(F) before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father(G) in heaven,
hallowed be your name,

12 And forgive us our debts,
