James gave no incorrect responses the whole game, and he was only about $50,000 away from breaking Ken Jennings' record. It's ludicrous to think he threw the game.
If this suspicion is based on his conservative bet in Final Jeopardy, his bet was actually very logical. James was assuming Emma would make a shutout bet (which she did), so he made a small bet that ensured the player in third could not overtake him. To win, he had to hope Emma missed FJ. That didn't happen.

It was a legitimate strategy advised by J-Archive.
It was just so out-of-character for James Holzhauer based on his previous play that it led to all these theories.
      But the strategy was sound.

@@ColdSnapVA I would submit that James the gambler was totally in character with his conservative bet in that he played the percentages. His assumption that Emma would make a shutout bid turned out to be correct, so he bet small, which would have won if Emma missed FJ.
People tend to associate James with his big bets on Daily Doubles, but of course the situation in this FJ was different. The big bets on Daily Doubles were to attain lock games and to maximize the payout. Again going with his gambler's mentality, James loved the fact that he got even money odds on Daily Doubles because he usually got them right. (He hit 76 Daily Doubles during his run and got 72 correct.) It's interesting that Emma beat James by mimicking his strategy, hunting for Daily Doubles and betting big when she hit them.

@@zanti4132 I just looked up this episode on J-Archive. The wagering suggestion for James read as follows:
"Try wagering $1,399, which is as much as you can put up against Emma without being usurped by a doubled score on the part of Jay."
      James did exactly that.
Emma's, in turn, read "Wager $20,201 to cover James."

James' small bet is to prevent Jay from becoming J! champion if he and Emma got it wrong.

I believe she had a gut feeling that he was going to bet it all, so she decided to cover him by a dollar.

Jay and Emma were too strong against him. A certain RUclipsr tried to discredit them.

if it was in the Davies era, Emma would had been easily won in the Champions Wildcard finals and Jay would had got his invitation at Second Chance Competition?
