We know that Freewrite tools are an investment in your writing. We are a very small team working with small manufacturing batches, contributing to the price point. However, our customers find exceptional value in their Freewrite. Writers in the community see their productivity and word count increase by as much as 2-3x. We are constantly looking for ways to support all writers in their practice, and we just released Alpha to that end. We appreciate you taking the opportunity to open a dialogue with us, and we’re honored by your interest in Freewrite. Write on!

If I was rich, I'd love to biy the typewriter style. I'm not a writer by any means, but my dad gave me his mom's green typewriter when I was in junior high, and I loved it. I typed a little faster than the typewriter could go, but it was a reminder of my Grandma. This is very neat looking, and I thi k you guys have an awesome idea! Ignore the complainers here in the comments, they care about gigantic screens and adding a bunch of crap to your idea. I say, there's people who love the idea of Freewrite and its made specifically for them. Keep up the good work! The products look great!

Would love an all black matte edition of the traveler like with the Ink Special Edition of the typewriter! I missed out on the ghost edition of the traveler due to budgeting constraints, and I know you won't be bringing it back (though you definitely should with how well it did!)

Next time you guys do a, "This is how each one sounds" part, as a future buyer, here are some suggestions that for me, someone who isn't sure it's for me and I'll explain why at the bottom, my thoughts.
First lol, that was way to quick, it's like here is what the sound like and you offer a total time of 3 seconds, just seemed really short, had to repeat it several times and it felt broken or like you guys can't even give me the longer sound bite, a big part of my decision is how do the keys feel and....sound.
Give each machine the time they deserve, they are hand built right, special, aren't your buyers important too, each should have been given at the very least an uninterrupted sound sample of 20-30 seconds, and preferably by someone who hasn't drank the entire 6th pot of coffee. I wonder if that how author Balzac sounded on his machine?
Show a variety of typing speeds, Although I can type between 100/110/120 wpm, I also like to go slow as I'm word smithing and treading the eye of the needle, so to speak.
    Anyway..
I personally have worked long enough to build up that discipline to write on whatever without distractions, I write in bed, behind a desk or at the kitchen table, in the car while waiting for people, in doctor waiting rooms, sometimes ya got enough time for a novella in the exam room before the Doc comes in and takes charge and tells you to lose the pants. And with magic we obey. Try this somewhere else...nope!
I was looking forward to these when I first read about them, I wanted to help by donating money, but I just couldn't at the time.
And although price $$$$$ is a big factor on why of not bought one it's not the main reason....I was so disappointed when they did come available for public purchase and they're that expensive...
I'm also a user and collector of vintage Typewriters, mechanical manual typewriters, and some electromechanical and I have two electric typewriters. I have a 1983 brother EP-20 the world's first portable battery powered thermal typewriter, and a brother EP-43 both machines are small and remind me of the Freewrite and traveler, but both save on paper memory and seeing the physical work made actually produced see it show it touch it, I am still talking about paper here.
That also means my work is safe, it's mine I can show it, unless it gets wet too much heat, or burned or ripped up, it's safe.
Yeah you need to carry some sheets of paper with you, but you got a writing bag anyway so there's room that's not a problem. The thermal print is good for 40+ years, I have a friend that's been using his machine since 1984 and says the read is still good. These machines print or burn slowly and the paper is better than the cheap receipt paper for a quick no care burn found at the cash register at the store.
I also have a writing app on my phone and with a kickstand on my phone case and a bluetooth folding keyboard, I have the ability to write on the go, the thermal typewriter and my normal portable typewriters are also distraction free.
All these are paperless typewriters, well hell I can get the same distraction free machine from a under $100.00 most cases AND permanently save and show my work on paper, but I keep coming back to visit.
And then I can't decide as to which version I'd buy...I love the way the alpha sounds but not it's looks, though it does remind me a little of my most loving Speak 'n' Spell I had as a kid.
I like the Traveler for 'on the go,' it's still a nice size, but I don't like it's not back lit, then again I don't write in the dark.
It's probably the one I'd buy, but love the Freewrite the way it looks and the keys and key sounds.
I love the Hemmingwrite, not the Hemmingwrite price tag, that's the same as my rent on my house!
Sad, about the time I can buy a Hemmingwrite without batting an eye, the company will probably be out of business. I hope not, or you guys stop making them.
You'd sell a lot more at a lower price point, but I know, I know hand made...
No my biggest reason I don't buy one, is I can get the same thing from a 9 dollar machine I bought on eBay, the only increase in productivity for me would be from the time saved from feeding paper into the machine.
It's appealing to know you can write and write without paper or ink, magical really. Distraction free isn't a big selling point for me I already have that, I can sit there and write without nosing into online games.
Everyday I write between 6 and 10 single spaced pages, 10 is my goal, 6 is the very least I will allow myself to get up and quit for the day.
The fun part is in about a mouth if I was able to do 6 to 10 I usually do 10 and sometimes more once I even wrote 44 pages on a manuscript, but my point is in a bout a month you got a full working 1st draft manuscript for a book or novel a full length novel at that!
The only reason I wouldn't is family life, being a Dad can get in the way certainly, not feeling well is anything.
But writing distraction free on a paperless machine is very cool no doubt, I get it, and I don't get it and again that's probably because I can get the same with a note pad and pen for less, good enough for Stephen King, or my make shift wireless keyboard and phone, or a real typewriter....what a painful dilemma I'm in.
Wish someone would send me on to review, too bad we live in an evil world would be great to rent one a try before you buy, kind of thing.
Guess that's the difference between prostitute and marriage....sigh.
Anyway, here's to a long long life to your company long enough to continue making these wonderful machines.
    Thanks for reading, ❤
I'll probably get the traveler, and later a Freewrite, but I'd really like to own a Hemmingwrite.
    Be safe and be well❤

Looking forward to it, as I was a fan of the Alpha smart, I wanted to go the Alpha route for my portable option. We provide a dedicated [send] key on the keyboard for precisely this reason - you can email drafts to yourself and print from a computer or mobile device. You can also print from a computer by downloading your drafts from the cloud. And last but not least, we have an optional subscription service called Freewrite Plus that enables you to send drafts directly to newer cloud printers that have dedicated email addresses. Hope that helps!

Why haven't you updated the console screen to an actual DIGITAL PLATEN? You realize the core driving force of a typewriter as a tool of focus to write is having thought IMPRESSED onto paper, right? It is the mechanical conduit from thought to word as the writer strikes the key and impresses it with ink to paper.
Beyond function, it analogizes the entire scribe's existence!
The digital platen is the conduit of PURE FOCUS that automatically parses the raw typed words scrolling it up into the e-ink display for consistency, leveraging the writer to keep track of their thoughts when composing a piece of writing.
Until you update this crucial feature (really the core identity of an ACTUAL typewriter and what the Freewrite smart typewriter should have had since day one), this thing is nothing but a quasi-typewriter with a hefty price tag.
Understand the typewriting process and the mechanics therein which have been honed for over a 100 years!
