South Rampart Street Parade - Chris Barber and his Band 1982.
This tune was first recorded by Bob Crosby. Bob Crosby led one of the hottest big bands of the 1930s, a unit that although filled with swing stylists could play Dixieland with the joy and spontaneity of a small group.
One of the hottest groups these days is Britain's Chris Barber Band. Chris started his band in the early fifties and even today, some fifty years later the band is still on top of the scene. I just checked his gig list for September and October 2007. Some 35 concerts over a period of 2 months. Who can claim that in the jazz world. Just unbelievable.
In 1982 the band consisted of Chris Barber trombone, Pat Halcox trumpet, Ian Wheeler clarinet/alto, John Crocker clarinet/alto/tenor, Johnny McCallum banjo/guitar, Roger Hill guitar, Vic Pitt bass and Norman Emberson drums
Chris Barber has performed wonderfully over the years even back in the 60's when he was touring the world.
A real gentleman, played here in Belfast a couple of nights ago. Still sounds great at 85!
Magnifique !
Merci
Amazing and sounds better and better each time I listen to it. Thanks for sharing.
Nekvalitní snímek (obraz)jinak fajn,díky.😊
chris barber and band always in the top in europe!!
GREAT DAYS THEY WOUNT COME BACK AGAIN 1955 -66
I remember playing this in high school... Ah, the memories...
I love It.
Exactamente.
First time I saw Chris was this band !
And now you are in that front line!
@@socram70nz Yes, still can't believe it..!
This was at Derby. The last time I saw the band before I emigrated to NZ, but thankfully, made great friends of all the band members who visited NZ in 2000. Sad to have lost several members since, but the music will live on for ever. Still a favourite track of the 2,000 or so produced.
Great, nothing to add. I wish there would be more bands these days like Chris Barber's.
Thanks for sharing.
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost the login password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Theodore Corbin instablaster ;)
@Lane Hassan thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Lane Hassan it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
@Theodore Corbin happy to help :D
LOVE that song!! Man, that's good!!
Genial ... Chris Barber Band... Incredible...!
This song makes me feel good.
this is the best version I have ever heard of that New Orleans classic.
CHRIS BARBER AND HIS BAND-PRAKTFULL AND BIUTYFOLL!!!!!!
Genial.
Lovely to see Norman Emberson on drums. I used to see him on the odd occasions, sitting in with Cuff Billett at the Cottage in Butlocks Heath. Great bloke from what I recall.
I’m dyslexic so I read Buttocks Heath 🤣
KLASS!
Very nice! Terrific song!
Great version. Bob Crosby and his " bobcats" was first recording I heard in Dad's collection round about 1946.
I have a copy on 78
I was born in 1952, he died in 1953. Sadly I lost all his 78s in a mice in 2006 😪 but it’s on YT:

@@nhmooytis7058 That's sad. My dad had a Cossor radiogram which he sold along with his record collection before I was old enough to have an opinion on the matter. However Dad gave me my life long love of jazz including being a player.
@@Thursdaym2 At age 7 I accidentally sat on the 78 of Big Noise From Winnetka and my mother never let me forget it.

Love the way they sound with Ottilie Patterson, mainly in "STRANGE THIS HAPPEN EVERY DAY" and "DARLING NELLY GRAY". Greetings from Spain.

Someonw here?
Using enigma in a sentence. The soul recognizes & apprehends music. Thus music is not an enigma.
Very insightful; I was about to post the same thing; I prefer their version actually.
iven knige - chris barber is very biutyfoll in top in the word !
Genialllll
Blijft goed !!
Chris Barber very good swings along nicely

Miss Monty Subnshine on clarinet.
How true the best clarinetist ever, bar none
This was co-written by Ray Bauduc, Bob Crosby's drummer in the Thirties. The original Crosby recording was played faster than this version.
they will come back ! Wil Bach
I wish.
It is played good but the version with Papa Bue is my favorite!!!
I don't miss Monty Sunshine at all, but I DO miss Ian Wheeler on the clarinet. here he is on alto. Wheeler was on of the finest clarinettists in the World of Trditional Jazz.
Cannot agree with that, Monty Sunshine was by far the best ever
I agree . Monty Sunshine was world class and streets ahead .
@glennestey I think you're right. A little bit of clarinet thrown in here and there would have been great
great performer.i met him in the 80's at the redditch palace.very nice man.he encouraged me to keep on song-writing.check me out i'm gypwin
For a great rendition of this number listen to "The Dukes of Dixieland" on RUclips.

A perfect band !! All of them are as good as the famous DSCB members, with just a different style. A too "german" style : electric guitar or bass, not enough 2-4 beat, and often that loooong note at the end of the tunes...
