Most movies don't really need to have segs scenes at all.
Poor Things is a good example of sex scenes that further the story. They’re actually very intense and uncomfortable scenes but i think they do their job.
(i’d argue the frequency of them in this film is a teetering on excess but still makes its point)

As an asian , I am very surprised how many western people also don't like unnecessary sex scenes..I used to find them very weird while watching Hollywood movies..it used to break the moments ..it even doesnt fit the character ..as a viewer , I find them very uncomfortable and feel weird

American here. Secks scenes became "normal" in the late 80s early 90s. I was like 13 when I saw a Jean Claude Van Damme movie with my family at the time. The sex scene was long lasting and extremely uncomfortable. Especially at a movie theater with hundreds of other people. Hello 2024!

As an American, I agree. I find sex scenes to be unnecessary most of the time. I don't mind intimacy but full-on graphic sex can make me feel uncomfortable. If the actors are good you'll pick up the chemistry and that's all you need. Just good chemistry.
How about minimizing the sex scenes to truly protect your actors eh? Or totally remove it when it has nothing to do with the story.
There's no need to protect the actors if they're comfortable with being in a sex scene. If they're uncomfortable with it, then yeah, don't do it. But otherwise I don't see how it's protecting the actors?

I genuinely can’t stand sex scenes in regular movies. Especially because I mostly watch movies with family and friends. Keep the sex scenes in porn, and out of my family movie night 😂

I liked it when in the old days there was a romantic scene, it was all done by imagination, they went in for a kiss and then it was left to your imagination. You don't need (well I don't) to see them trying to disappear into each others mouths, and all the intimate action. The old films were a lot more classier and enjoyable without all the gratuitous sex and violence.
True, man. Maybe that's why I like Asian movies and dramas more. Even if I fins a concept I like in American dramas, this overly intimate scenes throw me off... and there are so many sometimes, it just affects my immersion...
It may shock and discredit you but there can in fact be value in showing explicit/semi explicit sex scenes in media and sexual content doesn't necessarily cheapen a work

INDEED THEY ARE, not necessary to be put in each & every single flick in order to make it a "BLOCKBUSTER", b'coz their usage depends on a particular genre.
Some comments are in favor of removing sex scenes in the movies. Don't get me wrong, a lot of current productions add these scenes unnecessarily when it doesn't have to do with the plot. However, sometimes they are necessary, for example in the 2023 film The Peasants, sex scenes could not be missing. Reymont's secret, which brought him an Oscar, was the depiction of the life of peasants, ordinary people. Love, hate, passion, sex, rape, violence and much more, it is a story about human emotions. We can't just throw away such an important part. Sex can be delicate, tender, it also can be recorded with brutality and shame - this is how rape scenes are created. Let's stop thinking that sex doesn't exist, or sex is everything. It's part of life, one of many. Some actors don't want to play such roles, others don't have a problem with it, and that's totally okay

Okay, so I find this really interesting. Most people find sex scenes to be pointless but maybe you just prefer movies with different stuff but here is my input. SKIP THE SCENES or better yet DONT WATCH THE MOVIE.
Now my opinion on sex scenes is that they can symbolise many things, the intense emotions one can feel, how their exposed bodies can resemble the truth or that they have nothing to hide, or how one can use their body as a advantage over someone.
This can be done well (like in Blue Eye Samurai where the sex or nude scenes are just ❤) but sometimes it can be done in a way that can make you feel discomfort and irritation. Personally I feel like 50 Shades of Grey’s sex scenes are just pure if a wattpad original got really popular energy but maybe I just need to watch it more or read the book again to find more depth into the scenes.
Watching kids character do it is so disgusting

As someone who has acted in a (was not rated R) production with a sex scene. It’s not as uncomfortable as many may think. It’s really all so fake. Nothing shows, nothing leaves you vulnerable, you aren’t in the scene very long they’re quick and short takes, the camera angle does most of the work. But I will agree that the production/series could have just gone without that scene anyway as it didn’t really add to the storyline.

There seems to be less sex scenes in films in general unless the film revolves explicitly around sex . This to me is a little disturbing. It’s like how in action films there’s no visceral violence as much either. Compare the original death wish to the modern version with Bruce Willis. The visceral violence of the original is unsettling but it serves a purpose. The modern ones are like a video game and ironically actually dehumanizing

Sex scenes usually don’t bring much to the story. And I’ve seen plenty of standard movies with sexual activity, so idk where you’re coming from?
If you want the full thing, then rated R is for you. PG-13 is more tame but still out there. And PG/G of course is exceptionally tame (although films like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish have been pushing the boundaries on PG rating)

Most South east Asian dramas are pg-13. The plots always more of emotional struggle rather than sexual. Lately, it's more entertaining than most netflix's shows

Intimacy comes in many forms...What's showcase in the films you are watching is mostly Emotional , Spiritual and Intellectual intimacy while Western/European films focus on all apsect of the intimacy compass which invlude sexual and romantic intimacy as well. If there is not intimacy of any sort, then a relationship is meanigless.

Intimacy like I have described has many forms and to sustain any relationship be it a friendship, companionship, romance or business partnership requires certain forms of intimacy in correct proportions in order to sustain.

The amount of people saying "dont put sex scenes" is crazy. I thought people would be mature enough to watch a sex scene since it happens IRL all the time but i guess not. Im not advocating that we put in more sex scenes, but sometimes, believe it or not, it can actually add to the story in ways or even just build tension, or be comedic sometimes
Many of these commenters are either very young or very sexually repressed or just commenting to be contrarians. The algorythm often suggests such videos based on assumed level of outrage. If you're pegged as being easily bothered by something then that something gets suggested so you hopefully comment. Its not perfect but it mostly works.

The amount of comments I’m seeing about sec scenes being unneeded is crazy but I agree. Some shows and movies don’t need them but sex education does. It’s literally a show about all the possibilities going on during puberty. A lot of shows don’t cover that kind of stuff and they’re very authentic about real life problems. That’s one of the only shows that I’ve seen that cover insecurity, awkwardness, etc in it which all happen in real life. And I know people can be uncomfortable with doing that and that’s just how you are. But these actors chose to do that show and signed a form saying they’d do it. They knew what they were getting into and they knew they were protected🤷

I also don't like drawn out sex scenes. That said every once in a while I find one that really adds to the plot. Most of them are not the sexy ones, with nudity. The Good Wife has a few of these scenes with everyone fully covered that really add to understanding the dynamics of the relationships.

Considering none of us would be here if some form of s*x didn't take place at some point, we as a species really have a weird attitude towards the most basic part of being human. I thing, as long as the cast is treated respectfully and are willing to do a s*x scene, they're perfectly fine. The show Sex Education is brilliant, and does a lot of the education young people can't get in schools.
