  • Easy, this is a tutorial on making your own drum kits & keygroups quickly on the Akai Force.
    I went on a little longer than intended, but also show you how you can have more than one sound in a keygroup.
    Have fun!

    Shift edit and clip that’s what I was trying to remember. My force has been in repair for two months so I got to brush up. Thanks again for the content.

    I had no idea about that shift + edit function. Super useful!! Especially when I can’t get a loaded key group in my Matrix to play a single note! Lol. Thanks man.

    At 4:30 you take a cell from a drum kit and turn it into a key group by pressing shift+edit and the pad. But hare you able to switch back to access the whole kit again?
    Thanks! These have really been helping

    You know any reason why audition doesn’t work properly for the samples? I have the new firmware. It briefly plays it but stops the sample really short. Thanks for the vid. Very helpful!

    What is your best method for storing kits? Do you make an extra folder for each drum kit or do you save them all in the same folder? I'm just curious because I noticed that the samples and the kit file all end up together in one folder, that could get pretty messy with a lot of kits, would be nicer if the samples ended up in a subfolder.

    • @nicethings
      @nicethings  2 года назад

      Good question, but I tend to make up kits as I go for each project, or get stock kits and customise.

    • @milanwulf
      @milanwulf 2 года назад

      @@nicethings That's what I also do most of the time, so I stumbled over this pretty late. Maybe I should make a feature request for subfolders in the Akai forum :)

    thanks, the manual doesn't really go into keygroups. I've had to figure out a lot by watching what youtube vids are out there. not too many for the force. subscribed. cheers! had a chance to try it out... this is the short cut I had been looking for . yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Heya, great channel! I have a question, not sure if its related to this video. When working with a drum track/instrument are you able to open the mix to adjust volumes of each part of the kit, kick, snare etc? Or are you only able to adjust the overall volume of the kit?

    • @nicethings
      @nicethings  3 года назад +2

      Yep, all you have to do is press Shift + Mixer when on a Drum Program, this will bring up the submixer for each pad as a channel.

    So there is no way to make a kit from scratch without loading another? I mean if it works it works, but doesn't the previous kit have fx on certain pieces of the kit? DO those get removed when you purge?

    • @nicethings
      @nicethings  4 года назад

      You can make sample kits from scratch, I don’t. Yep, the effects are on but I find they’re always useful setups as someone spent considerable time doing it. Yep, whenever you load in a pad (this way) it automatically replaces/purges the file. I just tend to not spend a lot of time doing things from scratch, unless I absolutely have to, but you can literally make a whole kit using a single Hype plugin, it’s that versatile.

    Ok maybe someone can help me out. The grid of 16 pads 4x4 can have multiple pages called zones right? I can’t seem to figure out how to go to the other pages. On the Edit Zones menu is see that there are pages A-H.

    128 key group slots! Awesome! Just have a few key group questions 1. are there mute groups available in key groups?
    2.Can I use a key group as part of a larger drum kit?
    3.Is there a way to convert a key group track to a drum kit track, as they both have 128 slots? Thanks again, RMS

    • @nicethings
      @nicethings  4 года назад +1

      Good questions. 1. No, which kinda makes sense. 2. No, they’re separate programs.Not much point as you can copy multiple pads. 3. Only one way. Drum is for manipulating individual samples, uniquely. Keygroup is manipulating sample, globally (sort of). Unless you’re aiming to create keyboard/synth sounds, drum is always the way to go. N.B. You can have 512 samples in a single drum program, in theory.

    • @nicethings
      @nicethings  4 года назад

      Cheers! At present it doesn’t play that well with external stuff (I have intentionally only used this standalone), until the next update. As far as I know, you can only record/play the keys on the track you’re on, so you can only do the reverse; launch clips pads whilst recording the track you’re on (Edit + Launch Config).

      @@nicethings thanks for getting back to me i really appreciate that.. yeah its a nice toy the akai force , but it really does need its own DAW .. I really dont know how you work the things out on the the force like you do ? proper skills.. thanks for the tutorials ..

      since the update you can easy hook up your synths to the force via USB Hub or midi. Go Midi-out from your synth to theforce midi-in. Go out from the synth audio - OUt to the force audio- IN. make sure the audio IN on the force is set on Intstrument! (little switch on the back of the force) or you will have noices and ground loops. On the end you create 2 tracks on the force, 1 Midi 1 Audio - Track. Setup the Audio - Track to the Audio-Input of the synth (most Channel 1) set up the midi-Track on the force to midi channel 1 (or what ever channel you used on your synth) Since the new update you can now play and record your external synth-sound via audio-IN on the force and same time you can modulate the sound from the synth, whilst its playing on the force and record it to the DAW e.g....:) Hope that helps.
