I bought the car and did some research. It was a grand prize in the "Great Gas Gauge Giveaway" contest by Esso in 1969. I got a copy of the original order sheet and came from Philly area where the winners were from. Great car.

That is an awesome '70 GP. The build sheet indicates that car was special ordered with those exact options by a customer which makes it a very special car. Looks like when it was repainted they added a bit more metal flake than was usually found in Verdoro Green, which makes it really pop. I like that they specified the wheel covers (which from '69 - '72 the GP had its own unique wheel cover that was not shared with any other Pontiac). Those dual-stripe radial whitewalls look awesome and were only common for a few short years, from '69 to about '71, then were very difficult to find after that. Only things I would have done differently is order the Rally II wheels AND the wheel covers (so you could easily switch between the two and have the best of both) and I probably would have specified the 455 HO along with the hood tach.

My parents had a 69' J exactly like that and in green, with green interior. Ours had a green vinal top. I was 13 at the time. Dad would never drive it fast.

I purchased this car and did some research. I found out it was a "Great Gas Gauge Giveaway" contest car in the Philly area in January 1970. I was able to track down the winners family and verified that they were the actual winners.
