Hi Kelly, I just found your channel and watch your videos during the night to keep away panic attacks. Apart from all the inspiration you give me, I really appreciate your down-to-earth way to create and your calm voice (and the videos without music). Thanks a lot.
Hi there. Thanks for touching base. Sorry to hear about those nighttime panic attacks - they hit my husband sometimes. But glad you are able to find some creative solace. As for music, when I mention adding it I get dozens of NO, PLEASE DON'TS so yours is added to the list.🙂 Kelly
True words. When I am tempted to scroll through the news I make watercolour doodles and feel a little better. Stay strong and keep making those bold pages - it will be what makes a difference when the zombies (or whathaveyou) come. 🌼🌼😉😉
Thank you, Anastasia. This week I am leaning into yellow. With All That's Going On, leaning into colour is my way of whistling past the graveyard. Thank you for touching base! Kelly
Thanks for giving us a referral to Susanne Rose's YT channel. I really liked your watercolors that you did on flowers and now I have got to do some watercolors as well. Great video today.
It is a pleasure, Lynne. I tried a "proper" watercolour course and learned a lot but boy oh boy, Susanne's channel really got me making, making, making.
Really nice video! Great tips, suggestions, and examples! I just love the pace of your videos and your soothing voice. Your watercolor flowers are wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent.
Why thank you, Sherry. This is really nice to read. In my head my voice sounds like Marlene Dietrich then when I hear it on playback all I can hear is Marcia Brady, so...nice to know that the Marcia Brady voice is good enough! Hope you are going to make some fun and pretty pages. Kelly
Hi Kelly, lots of interesting techniques here. You can never have too much butterflyness lol. Love those watercolour flowers, you should give yourself more credit. Thanks and cheers xx
Hi Nicola, don't know how I missed this lovely comment! Yeah, there are days when I think "stop with the wings, already" but - I never do. Learning to paint better with watercolours was a present to myself late last year and one of my New Years resolutions. I still have a primitive style but I am learning so, so much and it is a joy. In time I hope to add my own painting to my altered books. 🌷🌷🌼🌼🌻🌻Kelly
Why thank you, Jodi. It was actually a lot of work to put this together but at the end of it all I have a bunch of new pages so nothing wrong with that! 🎨😁
As usual, this video is full of great ideas. I love that you teach by doing. It is a coincidence that your messy ideas come just as I finished a page in my journal (Book of Me from your online course!) on the joy of continuing to just play and make messes as I did as a child 😁😁! Have some fun in the sun - off and running on a creative weekend!
Thanks bunches, Kathy. Funny thing is I don't do anything like a child EXCEPT give myself permission. I used to teach school and it is amazing - if you ask a ten year old to write an opera about a cat they will say Sure, No Problem. Ask a 40 year old to do the same and they are sure that they cannot. How about you? Maybe we could make a journal about an opera about a cat. Off and running, too! 🌻🌻🌼🌼🌷🌷😺😺
Why thank you, Nola. It was kind of a present to myself to learn something new and improve my painting. Funny think is I took an online course to teach me the "right" way but I am now veering off into messy what-the-heck-is-that way and it suits me way better. 😁😎
Beautiful pages as usual Kelly, I particularly liked the way the owl looked at those butterflies! I adore colour and pattern but sometimes get completely lost by not knowing when to stop! I think, as I get more experience I am starting to learn when to step away. I am a knitter and I have always adored Kaffe Fassett knitting patterns for the sheer amount of colour and pattern in them and your boiled pages give me the same joy when I look at them.
Hi Yvie, stepping away is a real skill. I started out as a journalist and man, the tricky part was when to stop editing and just send the piece off. It is also true of journal pages that I step back and let it sit for awhile then come back to it another day (or week) and can "see" it more clearly. Knitting? I am sock mad and sometimes wish I could make my own. 😉
Kelly, thanks for this extra long video!! What a pleasant surprise. I just loved your scrumptious boiled book, 'before" and "after". You have an amazing eye for this stuff! I'm going to check out that site you mentioned about the other flower artist! Your the best my friend!! Stay well.
Hi Lynn. Susanne Rose's channel is teaching me sooooooooo much and is fun. Thanks for the feedback about the longer video. I really try to keep them under 12 minutes but maybe I will occasionally try something longer, as it is more like a mini-course. Have a great weekend! Kelly
Hi Lorrain, it is my real pleasure. Have a creative weekend. The sun finally came out in Swansea (after ten days) and I am going to go out and get some. And you?🌻🌻
Hello there, Deb. Thanks bunches! Once you smudge the pastel should stay put and if a piece is just for me I do not fix it, but if I did and it was just for me, to be honest I use hair spray. Hardly archival quality but it will outlive me. If it is for a piece that is being sold, however, I use a spray fixative from the art supply store, usually the Winsor & Newton brand.
I love your videos. I have some Eco prints similar to the ones you have and they’re about a 5 x 5 and they’re deckled edged, but I’d like to put them into a book and I noticed the book you’re working in today just basically has holes punched on the edge and some kind of a ribbon or something, can you explain how you did that or give me the link to the video that you showed how you made that album if you did?
My apologies for the late reply, Terry. I am on the road and the internet here hates me. 🙄I really like adding eco prints to messy art journals. I also use them for covers which means I can tear my papers to a standard-ish size before I dye them. For the spine here, it was quite thin and I made holes using a Crop-a-Dile, which is a fancy hole punch. I got mine second hand on Ebay and use it a lot. You can also use a plain old office hole punch or even a needle with a really big eye. Maybe this will help. I have a free online course about how to make no-sew bindings. I hope this helps and keep me posted! Kelly kelly-s-school-b1d1.thinkific.com/collections
Hi Sharon. Afraid I don't know how to insert captioned cards of my own. But thank you for the feedback. Oh and you should be able to enable close captioning on the bottom right hand side of the video which might help. If you have any question just let me know. Kelly🌷🌷🌼🌼🌻🌻
Hi Susan. Correct, although I have seen one artist who boils the whole dang thing, cover and all. Gorgeous but wild. Here are two more videos of similar books that may help: ruclips.net/video/VkLqNvcq5-g/видео.html ruclips.net/video/On7YkHSvqKU/видео.html

Thanks. Just what I needed for these weird days we’re living.

I love the colors and patterns you created on your pages. Beautiful outcome. Thank you for sharing.

Love, love, love your style. I really enjoy your totorials. Thank you for sharing all your talent with us.
Why thank you, Karen. This makes me happy. Kelly🌻🌻🌼🌼🌷🌷

Awesome video Kelly! I learned a lot and I will definitely be trying these out!
Thank you, Angela. Look forward to hearing how your pages turn out. Hope you have a creative weekend! Kelly

Love your creativity and generosity Kelly… Thank you 🦋
Hi Lorrain, it is my real pleasure. Have a creative weekend. The sun finally came out in Swansea (after ten days) and I am going to go out and get some. And you?🌻🌻
😂 "we can keep on moving... like sharks..." love it!
How beautiful. This is so good.
Thank you! I do love making messy pages and getting glue everywhere, It's my idea of a good time. 🎨🎨😁😁🌻🌻
Great tips and things to try! I'm looking forward to trying some of these in my journals! I especially like the appearance of writing with the ink!
Hi Susan. As a rule I write with fountain pen ink or homemade plant inks (walnut, acorn) using a pipette/eye dropper for messy loops. Try that! Kelly
Beautiful effects ❤ 👌 👏
Thank you, Lara. 🌻🌻
Interested idea with the stencil and crayon have to try that myself
It is one of my favourite mark-making techniques. Messy and cool. 😁😁
Miss Kelly, what an INSPIRING MESS! 😃 I loved the pastel work you added. What do you use to fix a page you have used a soft pastel on?
Hello there, Deb. Thanks bunches! Once you smudge the pastel should stay put and if a piece is just for me I do not fix it, but if I did and it was just for me, to be honest I use hair spray. Just the pages are boiled right?
