Try Gale's haste for Welonz turn 1 so she can smack a lot. Imagine using stunning fist 4 times in first turn, it will help a lot against bosses with legendary resistance. Also don't forget to slot in Gale's firebolt cantrip, it has better damage than his ranged weapon. Don't forget that fireball can be upcasted with higher level spell slot so if you want to use counter spell use the level 3 first.
I really recommend re ordering the spells by their cost. Put all the actions with no cost on the left, then those that replenish on short rest, then level1 spells, level2, level 3...
@@andybodle7560 Depends, I just gave her the int boost item, I took from the ogres and suddenly her firebolt accuracy was better than her crossbow accuracy.

@8:56 if you're about to short rest to get wyll's slot back you might as well cast armor of agethyst or hex to use that slot so it doesn't go to waste.
27:00 In this case, you can take the opportunity attack. It's a reaction, so Ketheric can't do any other reaction. Worst case he kills the imp, which he did anyway.
It shouldn't be. In case if having mostly melee fighters in one's team, it's not pratctical to increase the distance between you and the target. Who wants to waste their dashes and jumps to just run after them? I like to keep them closer.
You've gone about this in the intended way, but the game could have fallen apart entirely in this section depending on your choices. For me, I explored the entire region first before even setting foot in moonrise towers because I figured "that's progressing the plot, so I'll do that last", so I missed the entire introduction to Ketheric, and then afterwards, I decided I'd rather sneak into the tower instead of charging right in. I sent an invisible flying imp to scout out ahead and fly to the top of the tower just to see what I was up against, and suddenly the game glitched out, teleported me to the top of the tower, and it was just showing the same cutscene you got with Ketheric reeling in pain yelling "what have you done?!" despite the fact that he's never even met me before. And since I didn't save Nightsong, that whole section of the cutscene was missing as well. I also tried reloading because I thought it was a glitch and I was missing something, then I snuck up the tower properly and actually brought my character there physically, and the same thing happened. It seems like they really did not expect you to do anything but the "walk right in and pretend to be a cult member" route.
Poor Jaheira, can't get into the party for trying. Too bad, she's got some cool content in Act 3, plus her presence unlocks an iconic companion later in the game.
Ive never taken jaheira to fight below moonrise tower but she still followed me into act 3 idk why people are so panicy. From what i know she barely contributes much down there anyway besides being a druid.

idk why it amuses me so much to see some of the comments be this bothered by the gameplay AND decisions. People, please, is this your first let's play? Also lol @ first sticking your hand in a hole and now jumping down another one. Very James of you, Wellens.
Yeah, Wyll and Gale are important for this, but shadowheart isn't important for this quest 😂 Welonz thought since Aylin is involved shadowheart must have a big part to play.
It's not a big deal. For a first-time player this is the worst possible time to change up your team composition in favour of someone you've literally never used before.
Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength can be useful for Wellens. You just need to drink it once and will last until the next long rest. The damage output will be insane if she has tavern brawler.
I guess this misunderstanding with Deadly Orders happened because of one situation with Shadowheart, I think it was the battle in the House of Healing where Shart got possessed or smth like that, she became hostile towards her own party and sunbeamed them heavily, almost killed everyone, Welonz was shocked. Now it’s her nightmare 🤣
Any mind-control effect would probably trigger a Charisma or Wisdom save, and it could be removed by a number of cleric spells (or being bonked on the head). Ketheric can't just take you on his side like that.
You are starting to overthink things dramatically :-D To a point where you rather not deal 200 damage in 2 turns with Wellens because you're scared of a 10 dmg shield blow ;-) And when it comes to spell-slots, the devs will never screw you over. Spell slot economy is fine, but no game will let you go into crucial and tough battles with just a fart gun or some cantrips. Because it's just not fun gameplay. Relax a bit, enjoy the battle music, take your time. And never pass an opportunity to deal damage and get rid of enemies in the first turn. Then you're golden.
Well, unless the cantrip is Eldritch Blast with its Warlock buffs, because then who cares. Which incidentally, because it's multibeam, is also pretty good at stripping off those Armors of Agatys Welonz was overthinking 😉
Okay, so far I've not seen anyone else confront Ketheric and shout "You've been a Thorm in my side for too long!" at him ... I hope that streak of bad luck will end within the hour.
Well, certain games set a precedence, so now players expect you can talk bosses into suicide or immediate surrender 😁 And BG3 itself did, with all the Thorms in Reitwin.
Maybe everyone here is a pro gamer. I certainly had to reload some fights several times in my first run (on normal mode). I realized only after some fails Balthazar‘s cloud kill was a concentration spell. Ketheric wasn‘t a one try win as well. Not to mention the ‚you can prepare dinner until it‘s your turn‘ - battle in act 3. So if you ask me, Welonz is doing absolutely great!
I also struggled a bit at times on balanced on my first run. Welonz is always a quick learner but having a ton of tips in the comments can be a big help as well. Also Welonz likely learns from watching herself while editing and noticing some things that she could have done better.
BTW, Jaheria could have been with you as a temporary companion (similar to scratch) this whole time, not like your party members. It is only at the final ask before going down into the mindflayer area that she ask to join your actual party. This is why i emphasize saving and just trying stuff, and then reloading if you don't like it.
In an earlier stage of development it was possible to redeem Ketheric but at some point they restructured the plot which meant that was jettisoned. It's a bit of a shame honestly, since he's such a tragic figure.
imo, better this way, not all complex villains with tragic stories need redemption/"turning good in the end". In his particular case, redemption would be a cheap cope-out. Yes, it is tragic what happened to his wife and daughter, but those visages after shadows, the whole imagery of shadow-cursed lands is there for a reason. Plenty of innocent people died because he just couldn't cope, he literally let his grief and depression spill out and poison all the lands he ruled. Even more so, that slow descent in Sharran drivel, people telling on people, oppression of selunites, we learn all this throughout Act2. And when he was raised as undead, when they "returned" his daughter, he was like it "Screw it, thanks, now I will burn the world for it because Myrkul did the thing for me". Compelling complex villain 100%, but he doesn't deserve neither redemption, nor compassion (and I mean not in a character analysis way, I mean it would be cheap writing to give him some redemption, or even make him a companion following the party after all this story and seeing it play out. Also, just doesn't work with Aylin being there at the same time, 100 years of death and torment, cutting tongue and wings and whatnot, and now we gonna be buddies cause "redemption"?). He says himself, Kethric who Melodia knew has been dead long ago, that's just some undead monster who looks like him.
Would have loved that, if Durge can be redeemed I wanted a similar opportunity for Thorm, not to mention it would fit greatly with the themes of leaving evil gods behind & try to forge a new life for yourself. Like man, calm down your kid is alive plz stop trying to kill everyone, is ok
Nah, he’s hurt/killed too many people to be redeemable, I’d find any thought of it ridiculous. And Dame Aylin would not stand for it so it would be either him or her (unless she died) Maybe redemption in death but he has to go
Jaheira was by far my most used companion on my last run coz she has the best dialogue of anyone, besides maybe Minthara. so seeing her not be recruited is hurting my heart!
If I remember correctly, Shadowheart was simply knocked prone by Kethric's reaction. Anyone knocked prone gets up at the start of their turn. This consumes half their movement speed, and it (most importantly) breaks their concentration -- which is why I have my Monk, Tav, knock down anyone concentrating.
First time around i kinda played like a caveman to be honest, wasn't this overpowered that's for sure, so this mind flayer battle really destroyed me, always only had one companion alive, and had to use my only action to help someone up, so i'll not get a game over screen the next turn lol
I'm actually surprised you didn't bring Minthara for her revenge, Gale and Wyll make sense and Jaheira too but Aylin wouldn't be able to talk to Shadowheart anyway because of the fight lol. Well i guess the ladies will have another chance to shine.
@namelessmind8411You know why she "ignores hints" right? Too often do people tell her what she should do or what supposedly is the right decision. A lot of it is backseating. Like when viewers constantly told her beforehand to spare Minthara when she had just encountered her for the first time. Telling her your own experiences with the game, useful gameplay or lore bits is great but this is a blind playthrough; let her enjoy playing the game her way (faults, unpopular decisions and all). If you've been here awhile you know she takes into account what people say/want just plenty.
@namelessmind8411 There is a reason why it was kinda dumb to force her to have Minthara in a first / blind playthrough, she doesn't have much content and just takes space of an origin character in your party.
