Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul is a symbol of the heyday and simultaneous decline of the Ottoman Empire. There is nothing more majestic, royal and grandiose in the whole world. Huge squares, rich materials, luxurious decoration - all testify to the former power and greatness of 19th-century Turkey.
The history of this palace complex is the history of the rivalry between eastern luxury and European wealth. With its construction, the landmark of Istanbul is due to the ambition of Abdul-Mejid I, who wanted to live in a palace equal in sophistication to European residences. And so began the history of the construction of the palace:
1842-1853 - the construction of the Dolmabahce Palace according to the designs of the Armenian Balyan family.
1889 - Abdul-Hamid II transfers the residence to the new Yildiz palace.
1920 - Atatürk, creator of the Turkish Republic, occupied the palace.
1938 - Atatürk died here, turning the palace into a museum.
2007 - the palace became the official residence of the Prime Minister.
Historical moments in the construction of this building made it a truly unique architectural monument of the XIX century, to which a great number of tourists flock to our days.
