    The idea Carcharodontosaurus and its kin were less intelligent than more bird-like theropods due to having “more primitive” brains is likely false, as non-avian reptiles, especially crocodilians, are MUCH smarter than previously expected.
    Thus it is no longer reasonable to assume that coelurosaurian theropods were any smarter than other theropods (or even other archosaurs) due to having more bird-like brains, because it turns out you don’t need such brains for that level of cognition anyways. This misperception needs to go.
    Furthermore, you heavily imply that coelurosaurian theropods like tyrannosaurids outcompeted carcharodontosaurs due to being more intelligent; even disregarding the whole issue of intelligence, this hypothesis was always poorly supported. Carcharodontosaurs went extinct at the end of the Cenomanian along with a large array of other terrestrial and marine animals (most pterosaurs with teeth, all non-titanosaurid sauropods, all ichthyosaurs, etc), indicating their extinction was caused by environmental factors, and NOT by being outcompeted. Furthermore, tyrannosaurids did not become megafaunal until around 10 million years after carcharodontosaurs were extinct: unless tyrannosaurids were capable of time travel they would never have had the opportunity to outcompete carcharodontosaurs.

    I don't really have a favorite dino, I was always liked the Allosaurus as a kid and the Triceratops, but to me as I watch these videos and people compare and contrast, argue in the comments, I don't think(just my opinion) that any theropod dino really would stand much of a chance against a TRex. Their senses were off the charts, they were as big or bigger than any competitor, even if just big enough they were superior in every way that matters. Still, I'm just a fan of cool dinos so, nice.

    • @EnchiridionYT
      @EnchiridionYT  3 года назад +4

      Thank you! T. Rex also seems more remarkable given how much study has been made for this singular species, with other really cool dinosaurs simply not being studied as much. I love dinosaurs! :-D

    • @fgialcgorge7392
      @fgialcgorge7392 3 года назад +1

      @@EnchiridionYT Same. I love them all. I just came to the TRex conclusion based on their senses. Binocular visions greater that a hawk, outstanding sense of smell, their hearing, the crushing bite. It just seems like as they were living at the end as the astroid struck, they'd reached the apex of what was possible for Dinosaurs. Just my opinion and I'd be glad to have it changed, and it might be as more research is done. I just don't see dinos like Giganotosaurus, or the Spino being a real "game breaker" given what I said previously. With the TRex senses I think it'd get the jump and once those teeth sank in, I don't see anything really escaping, given it's a good bite. But I love the trikes. I think of any dino they had the best shot. The ball and socket neck, the power, that beak and those horns. One thing that think could set the TRex apart is if the truly hunted in packs with adolescents acting as the quick stick and move attackers and the adults delivering the kill bite.

    I'll bet if that German Paleontologist that first discovered these dinosaurs before they were blown to bits during WW2 was still alive today and learned his discoveries were being rediscovered with more complete specimens then what he had he would be ecstatic to see them especially the Spinosaurus that he had only fragmentary fossils of like parts of the skull,leg bones,parts of the tail,rib bones and the characteristic spines that gave Spinosaurus it's name and I'm also sure he most likely would have fainted at seeing that complete reconstruction of the Spinosaurus that is on display and seeing how different it was to what he first thought when he first found it's fossils nearly a full century ago in the deserts of Africa.

    When people say the "Africa T-rex" they dont mean it in a literal sense.
    Have you heard the expression: " Its the Cadillac of *blank* "? People use T-rex because it's so iconic, and most known in the dinosaurs world.
    Is just a way of comparing something less know, but equally as good, or close to, somewhere else.
    Last example: If I had a friend that lived in France; a friend that was a really talented dancer, and singer, I could say he is the *"Michael Jackson* of France".
    No one would actually think that Michael Jackson had an evil clone in France, but they would understand that they have similar skills.

    So the classifcation of Dionsaurs is always a little confusing to me. So like Dinosaurs as a whole, the entire family, is akin to mammals. All Dinosaurs are closely related and shrae some braod traits, the long necks and the meat eaters and all inbetween. Like mammals, cats, dogs, bears, pigs, whatever. But when you mention like therapod, what does that corralate to? I think if you say the trynasuras family, that's comparable to the felines or canines? But even that much I'm not sure of.

      I agree with all your thinking, ernst strommer was a brilliant palaeontologist, but unfortunately it was mostly the allies fault for destroying the fossils, despite what some sources may say the allies targeted the civilians much like the Germans did to the brits, it just so happens that the museum got caught up in those bombing runs.
      of course it’s still Germany’s fault in some capacity but it’s mostly the allies fault since they did the action

    Tyrannosaurus are thick AF, profile views are deceptive. They have thicker head, neck, body, legs, etc…. and their tails are relatively short compared to allosaurs.
    Carcharodontosaurus is still awesome, just not bigger.

      It appears to be related to the fact that T. rex is among the or if not the most studied dinosaur ever, so any paleontologist in the field naturally seeks to create a connection. I also believe those reporting on the findings always use it to exaggerate the titles and gain more attention. Important that you called this out.

    Your pronunciation is funny, maybe we americans pronounce it wrong,lol. They had bigger skulls than T-Rex, idk about that, the flesh ripping teeth are impressive , they get there name from great whites I assume because of that, but the bone crushing size of the rex I believe is much more than that of this dinosaur, even though their amazing predator, I don't think they had as much muscle power in the jaw as rex, maybe I'm wrong.

    The comparison to trex is not morphological, but instead describes its niche in the African environment.
    Also, your brain argument isn't very good, and in fact, only affirms the theory you're trying to counter. As the point of such comparison is the SIZE to brain ratio (not the simply comparison of brain mass). Other than that, pretty informative.
