Never thought I'd say this and I think it would have been cool to see Led Zeppelin continue. Though as a musician I understand the dynamic that can exist between individuals in a band and there's no way to fake it or get around the feeling and energy that gets created. The magic they created was unique, and, had they continued they would have needed to find the new way in which to let that energy flow again with the understanding that it would be it's own different and unique thing.

Ian Curtis' suicide is probably the saddest story in rock history. He gave clear indication of his intent to end his life in lyrics, but his bandmates thought it was just art. It's certainly tempting to be angry at his bandmates, but I've made a similar mistake. My Father and his brother struggled with drug addiction for a long time, and for the longest time, I was more worried about my Father. About a year before my Uncle's death, my Father had a mental breakdown because he was terrified that his only brother was going to die. While I was heartbroken by the situation he was in, I still worried more for my Father. About a year later, his terror became a reality. My Uncle died from an overdose. I still sometimes feel that there's more that I could've done, but I only think it would've only delayed something inevitable. Ian's bandmates probably only could've done the same thing.

I didn't expect them to be on the list, but one of the greatest punk bands of all time, the Minutemen, broke up when D.Boone died in a car accident. He was the lead singer and guitarist, but shared song writing with bassist Mike Watt who were friends since elementary school. He was just 27. And most lists of the 27 club of musicians who died at 27 years old (Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Amy Winehouse) don't even list him. But check out the album Double Nickels on the Dime. It's a masterpiece.

The inclusion of Tom Petty in this retrospective brings a couple of things to mind, one of which was that they did not include the Allman Brothers Band. For some strange reason, I have difficulty thinking of Tom Petty without thinking of Greg Allman after him.
The other thing which hits my head is that, unless my information is simply confused, there have been two sets of Heartbreakers in the music world. Aside from the band which Tom Petty led to fortune and glory, there was also a punk band which sprang from New York City’s East Village scene at the same time during the upper 70s.

ShreadTheWeapon the Allman Brothers Band continued through the death of Duane Allman and Barry Oakley. I suppose you could say that they ended when Gregg died but, the truth is, they lasted for decades after the death of their most famous and talented member. It was a shock to most people

Hearing about Led Zeppelin makes me think why The Who tried to go on after Moon’s death in 1978. They continued with Kenny Jones on drums on 2 albums but never really achieved the success like they did during thier classic Moon years. Even now with just the 2 of them remaining, Pete and Roger recorded 2 albums together as The Who. Zeppelin split broke up out of utmost respect for Bonzo while The Who did somewhat the opposite but still respectful maybe....

Whoever does the research for these videos needs to do more of that. Nirvana was going to break up regardless of Cobain’s death. Cobain has distanced himself from Grohl and Novoselic months before his death and only wanted to work with Michael Stipe(R.E.M.). Grohl has even talked about how Cobain had distanced himself from the entire Nirvana camp to add to that. Nirvana had cancelled the remainder of the European tour about a month before Cobain’s death and Grohl was also writing his own music. The band probably only would’ve been able to crank out one more album. Nirvana was on the verge of a breakup.

Well of course these bands would broke up because a member passed away, if I was in a band and a member died I would brake up because it wouldn’t feel right to be in a band without him/her, I would either start a new band or just not be in a band anymore.
