- Recently, my brother had made his way up from Texas and he wanted to put together a video with me about the similarities and differences between the Brony and Furry Fandoms. I'm actually glad to have him be part of a video, as Teric has already been a great help with all the feedback he has given on many of my scripts.

As a member of both communities, there's one thing I've noticed about the relationship between the Brony and Furry fandoms that I find just baffling.
All too often, members of one community will look at the other with the same disgust and make the same accusations that outsiders reserve for themselves. It's akin to the quarrel you see in movies between Star Wars fans and Trekkies.
Both furries and bronies create amazing works of art, animation, and music, have similar community slang ("Everypony"/"everyfur," "colt/mare-friend"/"mate," even "clopping"/"pawing") and we both go to conventions all over the world that collectively draw in millions of people and raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity every year. On the flipside, we also have exactly the same bad elements, like the pointless drama, the "fat, sweaty, fedora-wearing neckbeard" stereotype, right down to the subset of people who make porn of children's cartoons.
Like it or not, bronies and furries are a lot more similar than most of either community would care to admit.
Yep I know that feeling! I am both a brony and a furry and I have posted a few stories on FIMfiction which has furry characters and some fans were not so happy about it!
blackroz112 Tell me about it. All this arguing and hate feels so unnecessary.
***** GO RUGBY
Personally, I don't understand the interest in MLP... BUT, I don't judge Bronies, or even think negatively about the fandom. Honestly, some of the art has caught my eye.
Do I agree with the Brony fandom? No. Will I defend the fandom? Yes. Because, let's admit it... the Brony and Furry fandoms are related (maybe like 2nd cousins?), *cough* or at the very least, have both received the *same exact* criticism.
While I am both a furry and brony I have to say I like the furry fandom more, biggest reason being that even though bronies make tons of creative videos and art, they are all based on the show which wasn't their original creation. Whereas with furry arts and crafts most of their creations are their own original work and ideas which gives a more diverse selection of fan work to go through.
i totally agree, theres a wider range of art and other creative aspects of the fandom but the brony fandom is centered around one exact common intrest
I think both brony fandom and furry fandom are fine as long as ppl don't take it too far. BTW I am totally against sex related contents produced by both fandoms, simply disgusting.
yea thats one regret i have about being a brony (also i call it the dark side)
Yeah, I'm not a brony, but I'm alright with the show, I've seen a little bit of it and what I've watched was good c: Also, I have a mix of furry friends and brony friends but I'm the only one out of them that's cool with both fandoms. For the most part, it's only the loud and obnoxious make-up of both fandoms that make the entire fandom look bad to everyone else. 90% of both fandoms are made up of wonderful people who don't sexualize everything. (btw, I hope this message came across completely un-biased, fair, and not rude to either fandom. I'm not the best with words but I try to keep the peace ^~^)
Kandi Sparklepaws your message is my point exactly what i think
Andrew Crook Yeah and I have brony friends who say furries sexualize everything, and furry friends who say bronies sexualize everything, then the both of them spam me with mature content from their fandoms.... oh, the drama ;-;
GO PONY PORN
No matter if it's brony or furry, intolerance is just bullshit.
That is all.
Slender Mane I know your comment is a year old I have to agree on that I see intolerant in any fandom ( mostly furry from personal experience) is rather high and it's makes them think that they are
Smart or king of the world witch in real life it just makes you a jerk
this person needs more exposure
True
I am a furry and a Brony.
They are both very diffrent, however they are very simular.
And yes, i do find the literatre more interestin in MLP than the furry fandom, but both come out with stunning art.
I'm a brony and a furry they're both great
I love how Wolf and Teric are so respectful of each others' views. I don't get all the hate between fandoms. At our core, we all are a member of a group because we like the same thing. Hatred doesn't factor into that at all. Star Trek and Star Wars both have their merits. My Little Pony and other stories about anthropomorphic animals all have their merits as well. As do Harry Potter and, dare I say, Twilight. (Of course all fandoms have dark sides and rabbit holes and extremists, but they are usually the minority.) We all have fictional worlds that are as real to us as this world, because we make them real. Why are we wasting energy hating each other when we could be using that energy to enrich the communities we belong to?
I love you :)
I'm a furry and my friend is a bronie...I have heard that the two hate each other. Me and him are proof we can all get along. BRONIES AND FURRIES 4 LIFE!!!!!!
Slashy I am both I am a bronie and a furry
@@royalgalaxywolf me too I enjoy both of them and I have grown up with both of them as a kid I used to love My Little Pony and my fursona was a wolf so I love both of them
I mean that I fight with myself but cool I use to like the older generations until Mlp friendship is magic now I only like Mlp Friendship is magic I use to have a horse one named pinto but I started to like wolves more then horse so I lost touch with my horse side (I use to love Dora too that’s where I named it from) Sorry for the ramble
@@royalgalaxywolf it's okay I ramble a lot too and my personality is half horse half wolf I love both animals and I have a trait of both so I love both
Celeste blue I have a friend who is a horse wolf well apparently she has Phoenix too.
I believe personally that bronies and furries are very much alike. I may not be devoted to the furry fandom, but I have in fact been a furry for a very long time. My first characters were anthropomorphic foxes. My love for animals and all things that are fictional led me to become a brony. Both fandoms receive harsh words and criticism from people who don't quite understand them. But what most people don't realize is that there is a dark side to every moon, and that no matter what you like, there will always be bad side to it.
I am both a furry and a brony. weird. Very weird.... And I make cheap fursuits.(includes mlp stuff)
Hey as a fellow furry what should I do about my friends being a furry and brony ? I don't know about y9ou but I am straight but I am a friend to all
there are many ppl like that. I am a gamer and otaku(anime fan) and brony. The list may increase in the future
indiana201333 COOL ME TOO!
+indiana201333 Fuckin weeb
I'm both a furry and brony ... Actually, MLP is considered a "Feral" furry.
I'm a Furry, but i honestly don't see a difference between Furries and Bronies, a Furry is someone who likes anthropomorphic animals, and Bronies do just that, but instead of liking wolves, foxes, etc. they like ponies.
i guess the difference is that this has a solid story that the bronys are inspired from, its as they say cohesive, i would go ao far as to say bronys even the cloppers are not necessarily furrys but more xenophiles since the object of there attention is a race of highly intelligent mythological creatures "even the earth ponys have magic" instead of just a solitary animal, though i dont know much about eiether to be honest clop is not something i frequent in, but i do not have a problem with it, who am i to tell someone there sexual kinks are not allowed ?
ChocolateNova - Minecraft uHM Lmao okay? Whatever.
Well, the brony fandom are actually derived from a TV show, whereas furries have no canon to bring them together.
Cuz Mlp has no humanoid animals
Twinkle Sprinkle except minotaurs
Like or not, sexuality is present in both fandoms - what exactly is offending people?
We're all adults (I hope) and I think we can all agree that sex is a natural, normal act, fantasies are also natural; these ponies, and animals are anthropomorphic, meaning they possess humanistic traits, personalities - it isn't the animal people are drawn to, but what the animal represents.
I find many gems amongst each fandom, most of which have a mature warning attached, which really add to the fandoms allure, and to be honest appeal to me as an adult.
I love both aspects of these fandoms, and certainly the purity of the characters in My Little Pony is what drew me to it in the first place, but it's time people stop judging others over sexual preference - if the mere presence of sex disgusts you, don't engage it, filters are there for a reason.
THANK YOU! I have been trying to find a way to explain the same issues with my friends and family members who don't fully understand the entirety of the furry fandom. You did just that! :D *gives you a cookie*
Sahara Morehouse 0-0 *Recieves cookie* Glad to be of help! It's a difficult topic to explain at the best of times!
so....whats wrong with fursuits doc?
+Antimonkat There's actually a lengthy discussion down here in the comments that explains my feelings on them, and plenty of others who reply and add to the conversation.
I'm a part of the furry community
+Lashley X3 LOL Because furries *don't* fap to animal porn. I'm a Furry, and I'm not a sexual deviant. Mostly because I'm not a sexual *anything*.
Man I was a big asshole to furry's.
furries are great, so what is the point with doc?
"the drama llama"
thats it im a furry now, no questions asked, im a furry, thats it, im done, im a brony and a furry, just because of that line, JUST because of that line
Fantastic video, as usual! I think you handled what could have been a tricky situation with poise, both of you arguing the case for your fandoms articulately and with good humor.
A bit off topic, you and your brother are very alike! The way you two interacted was cute, and if you have another chance, you guys should make another one! ^^
Anyone here that is both a Furry & a Brony?
here
Sort of kinda maybe watch the show once a (day) month.
Me :3
Yay! To both you and Videomaker9 AJ. :3
MariPari145 me!!
I have to disagree with your assertion that the MLP fandom is not a subset of the furry fandom. As a simple mater of genre progression, it is. MLP:FiM is a show about anthropomorphic animals (in the sense that they talk and have human-like cognition) while the furry fandom is the fandom of anthropomorphic animals in general.
This is akin to the relationship between starwars fans and the scifi fandom. There are definitely people who only identify themselves as starwars fans and simply do not enjoy other forms of scifi as well as starwars fans that enjoy other scifi works but primarily consider themselves starwars fans. However, as a mater of categorization starwars is a subset of the science fiction fandom.
Not every fan of anthropomorphic animals is a furry. There are so many cartoons that have anthros but not every fan is also a participant in the furry community.
Not everyone who enjoys star wars is a SciFi nerd. The issue Here is that there really is no distinction between nerds and participant when you are defining categorization. While not every fan of anthropomorphic animals is party to the fandom's subculture they are all furries as a categorization.
***** In this situation, Furry = Anime Fandom. "The furry fandom is a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics"
I disagree with people who say the mlp ponies are anthropomorphic, because the furry fandom calls furries anthros, and they stand on two legs.
Void of Space and Time Anthropomorphic means any animal with human like characteristics just talking makes ponies anthropomorphic
ok just to know would making myself a pony as a brony be furry art or brony art just asking
probly depinds how u make it but ether way i will still click like love art both mlp and furry and a lot of others do to and love the work plp puts in it evin if is a stick man if thats the best u can do is grate every 1 gots to start and grow from lvl 0 lol
What's the name of the clip (twilight Gatling gun remix)?
Doctor, Teric, I would like to thank you both. I have heard a bit about furries, most of it negative, and yet one of my best friends on fimfiction is a furry, or claims to be. I've been curious as to what exactly a furry is. Now I know. I am a brony, and while I hold nothing against furries, anthro art doesn't really work for me. I see it and I look away. It's not bad art, it really is good, but some gut feeling doesn't like it, and experience has told me to follow my gut. Again thank you for clearing that up.
Zhe Ray Well most people judge furries because of the few who like furry porn, but then again there's some bronies who like clop, so you can't judge the furry community for that if you were going to. Other than that we furries are pretty normal, we just like animals that walk on two feet and draw them. But a furry is basically just someone with an interest for anthromophic animals, some furries don't even have a fursuit. In fact people with fursuits are a minority to the random.
I joined the furry fandom because
1. In the words of Will Cullson from Unstoppable: I just wanted to try something different.
2. I have always had an interest in anthropormorphic animals (Im on mobile so sry for my bad spelling)
3. Zootopia really lit my spark of interest in furries.
I would love to see a third part in this. Maybe you two could analyze fandoms in general? Or you could discuss the difference between a fan and a fanboy, or the tendency to harbor angst that fandoms sadly have. I feel like this is a very rich discussion and I would really enjoy seeing more of it in the future.
One of the most well put together vids about this topic I have ever witnessed.
As a brony, I refuse to be considered a furry under any circumstances.
Same here. Altho it definitely seems that bronies are a subset of furries, it seems weird to say that all bronies are also furries
shieldgenerator7 I don't see how bronies are a subset of furries. We are fans of a certain TV show, I fail to see how that makes us furries.
FragMentEditing
The argument goes something like this:
Furries are people who like animals, and Bronies are people who like ponies. Because ponies are a type of animal, Bronies are a type of Furry.
...or something along those lines.
But like you said, even tho I consider myself a Brony, I don't consider myself a Furry. Perhaps I'm missing something from either the definition of "Furry" or "Brony" that would show that Bronies are not a subtype of Furry.
shieldgenerator7 Bronies are fans of a TV show. We are not fans of it because it's about ponies, in fact that's why a lot of us were so skeptical of the show before watching it. We like it because it's just a good show, not because of the fact the characters are ponies.
This argument from furries is just ridiculously stupid.
FragMentEditing so yeah you're saying my definition of "brony" is incorrect. based on your definition, bronies are not a subset of furries
To be honest i understand the fandoms but i can't help but make the comment, in jest of course to some degree at least:
'Remember when they were just called cartoons?'
Nope. Because they were first called Animations. But "an·thro·po·mor·phism" has been around since... the first recorded history. Demons, Gods, etc. They all relate to the same general idea.
Kingliger 'They all relate to the same general idea.' In different ways.
Greek mythology they were seen as unnatural creatures that would aid or halt the hero.
But as in the more recent Brony and Furry categories seems to be said in a more diminishing tone.
What i mean is remember when you could like a cartoon that had Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry, without being labeled something for it. And before you say that the 'class system has been around for a long time as well' When has that ever been a good thing to be labeled something?
Also last note: Cartoons and Anime or just shorten, 'more catchier' names for Animations . . . now your just being a cheeky little devil
***** . . . yes . . . the mind . . . aaaannnnd...?
Sorry just fully understand your comment good sir .3.
***** im sorry friend :c
This is my 2 cents for any fandom. Being a dedicated fan for anything, furry, brony, etc. means that you passionately seek out material from the fandom, parody videos, comics, music, Etc.
somepony, please explain why a certain section of these links are no longer valid? oh, and why not a direct link to the 'Brony site'?
I like anthro creatures, too, but I'm definitely not a furry. While a lot of the community is fun and cute, for every awesome furry I've met, I meet someone who makes my skin crawl. Plus, from what I've seen, you can't throw a rock into the community without hitting someone who draws furry porn and that makes me uncomfortable.
truth be told every fandom gots the other side xxx rate is no getin arond it even harry poter gots it
As a furry I personally would never join the brony community...I do like the show MLP but that's as far as I'll go. I personally enjoy spending hundreds of dollars to get a big hot and sweaty animal costume that puts you at risk of being hospitalized with heat exhaustion. I prefer the freedom of being able to create your own character and sometimes even species or hybrids. It's that creative aspect that really draws me to it...without being restricted to being a pony. Plus you get lots of fluffy hugs.
God you fucked up people make the brony community look bad. Most bronies dont even clop or find ponies at all arousing ,we just like the show. You furry fucks are the cancer of the internet.
Oh sorry...I didn't know that being a fan of anthropomorphic animals was sick...if you're referring to mature content all fandoms have mature content. You said that not all bronies find ponies arousing, well the same logic can be applied to furries, it's there but it doesn't mean that everyone in the fandom enjoys it. If you're refering to my "hot and sweaty" comment about the suits I recommend you try one on before you go assuming that I was meaning sex. A fursuit is like an oven constantly set at around 110-120 degrees F it is hot and you do get sweaty. Also if you think that furries are the cancer of the internet, believe me there is much worse. Yes believe it or not there is much worse things out there on that scary internet than humans who enjoy dressing up as big fluffy animals who make people happy and laugh even if it is just for that split second. Nothing worse than for a grown adult who loves to play around with children and wants nothing more than to see big smiles on their faces because you made their day a hell of a lot better than what it may have been before. Yes some people enjoy the mature aspects but most of us get the enjoyment from the smiles and hugs we get from random strangers every time we put on that furnace of a fursuit, it's worth it.
Ninetys Purist
Wow your ignorance is amazing, I am a christian, right wing brony. Yet im not homphobic, racist or sextist. Please explain how that does make me a bigot.....
Ninetys Purist
Wow your the sorriest excuse for a troll I've seen yet....I belive in jesus christ and that all good men are created equal. That dosnt make me a bigot, homophobe, or racist you dip ship.
Ninetys Purist
*God, and Its not fact, nothing disproves or proves the existence of god, there for you cannot disclose it. You should open your mind to new things...And stop trying to troll because your REALLY bad at it. If your going to have a ligitement argument then you should atleast learn how to spell simple words, and dont get butthurt over stupid shit because it makes you look like an ass.
6:34 oh then how do you explain all the changeling suit images I've seen? Both share similiar tastes, and everhything eventually updates and adapts, might as well accept that.
I really liked that you guys both analyzed both fandoms, I'm Brony and a Furry myself and I really enjoyed you guy's video
Some people surely have noticed that both the furry and the brony fandom have porn. Some people think that is a reason to hate. I don't get it. Porn is quite normal. Not the actions in porn, but the human need for it (except for asexuals and celibats).
"But it are animals!" I don't think that brightly coloured and/or bipedal, humanlike creatures resemble any kind of real animal at all.
"But it's weird!" Some people just are weord. Get over it.
i wish people would understand there's porn of EVERYTHING, just takes one Google search :P
alice greyheart I would say everything, but with very few exceptions. Because as far as I know, there isn't any porn of me.
*****
TBH
Brony porn Is only disturbing when its made by WEIRD Side of the community
Belive me Im in the weird side and holy fucking shit.Im a crazy damn Mothafuka
Its not only about porn its also dark themes
Cupackes-Made on weird side of the community
Anything else creepy like cupcakes-Weird side of ze community
Belive meh DOnt go with my Weird side path.
Its so dark sometimes you cant imagine.
wtf That also counts for the furry fandom, but doesn't exactly add to my previous statement.
***** I mean the first statement " Some people just are weird*. Get over it."
Thats what my comment is for.
But to put in your second statement:
Once you ask for porn of anything its gonna be there,Good or not.So if someone that is a skilled drawer you`re gonna get turned into porn if they see your comment.
So who wants to play Russian roulette
With all six bullets. I want to die.
Is it possible someone can be a brony and a furry
Rift_ Gaming lol XD
I'm curious is drwolf an actual doctor?
Wow. This was literally the video that got me into your videos so many years ago. I feel old trying to think about how long ago it was. I was probably in 8th grade

Fursuits are fucking CREEPY! And this is coming from someone who likes anthro art.
fursuits look and are amazing and adorable!
Guys its just his opinion, calm down.
Rainbowdash Cat Agreed. Some are cool, some aren't. Let is slide.
Sean Cushing I don't speak for the original poster but for me the suits creep me out because of the blank faces. Also I can't see who is behind the mask and for someone like me who anylises every single word, face expression and body movement of a person to read them. the face covered individuals combined with the blank faces of the mask is incredibly unsettling to me.
Not to say that all of them creep me out, some of the fur suits I've seen with more realistic features or ones that incorporate makeup I have liked.
As for furries as a whole. I enjoy the art and some of the people I am even great friends with. hint hint. In fact in my teen years I considered myself a furry and even then the suit thing kinda creeped me out.
Jacob Ellinger The blank faces are what creep me out, too.
I can already tell your channel is awesome!
You've earned a new subscriber... :)
What a nice way to find a channel... Very nicely put you two, I'm glad to see info about the two fandoms still being put out by good people. I mysef am a brony and a furry, but i fall into other fandoms as well.
"MOM WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BLEACH?"
DO IT!!!! JUST DO IT!!!!
Yes!!! give me some!!!
If I had a .45 for every time bleach is mentioned with furries...I'd be under FBI investigation. (Just like Hillary)
Please I don't know what I am anymore.
1) do furries have a show?
2) do pony wear fuzzy outfits?
3) Pony's and furries are animals it doesn't matter
+Halla W I know this is old, but since no one answered...
1) No, the furry fandom is unique as it has no base media and is built upon only creativity.
2) Yeah, I've seen some pretty good fursuits of mlp pony characters, I've also seen terrible ones, and cringeworthy skintight-onesie pony costumes... though more often than not I just see humanised cosplay style costumes.
3) Exactly.
whats the video with pinkie as heavy called?

DRWolf001 Thanks :o
DRWolf001 Also love you're videos
+Inferno Thank you kindly.

So what about antro mlp?
I would beg to differ on that comment about furries being so accepting. I have gotten in more arguments with furries just for mentioning that I'm a christian, than I have among anyone else. I haven't even gotten in as many arguements with muslims or catholics about my choice of religion than I have furries. It usually stems from the bad reputation that a lot of the ultra conservative fanatical christians have given us. Any time I tell furries that I'm a christian the first thing I get hit with is that I'm a homophobe and I hate gays and all that jazz. The truth is that isn't true at all. I don't care what sexual orientation someone else is. If they respect that I'm straight I'll respect what ever they are. But I get judged by a negative bias that furries have against christians over the sexuality issue. Usually the safest thing to do is just not bring up my religion, and keep sex one of those topics I don't even talk about. Otherwise it's a situation where anything you say can and will be used against you. And I like furry art, but there is just so much going on with the furry community that I can't relate to, that I just can't really get into being part of the community. And that is fine with me because being part of the community doesn't add to or take away from enjoying the art. So I only dabble in the community from time to time but I'm not really a part of it. Any art I myself do and post goes unnoticed, and no one is jumping to talk to me or get to know me. So i don't find anything about the furry community all that welcoming or accepting. I find when I am making a showing in the furry community I have to hide so much about who I am just to get along with them that I go away feeling false. Like who I show them is just a mask. It's like a character I am playing, and not me at all. Which goes to another part of the furry community. Fursonas. I don't have one, and don't want one. When I used to roleplay back in the late 90's to mid 2000's I never had one set main character who defined me or my personality. To me it wasn't about trying to live out this persona that I wanted to be, but couldn't in real life so I had to role play it online. For me role playing was about story telling. I liked telling the story, and the characters were the medium through which I told the story. The collaborative element to it was fun because it kept me on my toes as a creative creator, It wasn't as simple as writing a story because others could change things as the story was being told, and so you had to adapt to that. And not so much to try and out wit them into changing it back to your plan, but instead to have only rough guidelines and go with however it flowed while maintaining coherency. To me that was the fun part, and not trying to be the character. I had probably about 12 characters I played reoccuringly and would bring in random ones as plot fodder. Most furries don't seem to get that. They can't seem to relate to me because I don't have a persona for them to interact with me through. I guess they feel like it's akin to trying to interact with a ghost that doesn't have any form or definition since everything in the furry fandom is so persona driven. So yeah I have a lot of trouble being part of the furry fandom for a lot of reasons, and of course I get pretty frusterated myself at times, sort of lurking on the outside of this thing that I am interested in, but can't be fully part of because I am a piece that just doesn't fit anywhere in the puzzle. So that is my experience with the furry fandom.
I tried second life a long time ago. I somehow got my fursuit head attached to my butt and couldn't get it off. No joke that really happened. I guess it was linked to where the tail should have been. So... yeah.. besides no lizards yet so until they do that Im not interested. And I mean lizards. not dragons. In fact as old as furcadia is and still no lizards... I can't believe it. Why no lizards?
TheFireLizard you can be the first lizard if you want. Plus I'm a Christian furry, I think you may have accidently just ran into the sjw furries. Don't worry, not all furries are like them, it's just that there's a lot of sjws in general now a days.

Great video! I hope your brother is featured in future videos. Awesome topic and awesome execution.

*salutes you*
Fira Took indeed
I dont think dress code allows that.
we did not get introuble, my school dose not care about dress code.
Neon Eyes no schools dont care about dress code.
Renard Music :3
Hey, did Teric read the Redwall series as a youth? It's what got my brother into the Furrie fandom and was highly influential on my art as well.
Does your brother have a youtube channel?
He does...but he doesn't do anything with it. He is far more active on his Furaffinity Account, and there is a link in the description.
***** And you're point is??? Also, sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner, google plus is a bitch.
I first was a pony fan but I got over to the furries because ponies where a bit overrated. I like furries because the realistic fursuits are badass!
no hate though :D
I have been wondering this for a long time... But I have been questioning on whether or not I'm a furry... So I have always liked animals, while other kids would take a puppy over a lizard I would take the lizard (I also like cats and dogs, don't get me wrong! I have four cats and a dog.) and when I was starting to get into drawing I started drawing animals. You can tell because I drew my icon as a cat. But I would constantly daydream about essentially furry characters. I found an old short story I wrote in elementary school about a ringtail lemur furry character that was going up against a demon that was a mix between a fox, crocodile, snake, and bat. I own a pair of fox ears and a fox tail that I will sometimes wear. Now if I would be considered a furry I would be fine with that, I just want to know. Now I wouldn't wear a fursuit or anything, they creep me out. When I meet someone I try to see if they can hurt me almost like a security system, but the suit is a façade for the actual person so it makes me nervous. Uncanny Valley if you will. And I most certainly wouldn't take any part of 'yiffing' (I wont ever partake in 'clopping' either) or whatever it's called. The idea of smut involving animals disturbs me more than a fursuit ever could. But still, furries out there, can you help me out here? I have wondered this since I discovered the meaning. So I want to put that mystery to rest.
You arent a furry if you like animals. Dumb generalization.
Wolvenpotatoe factoriedarkness It's not that I like animals though, its that I essentially made furry characters which got me thinking.
I've been wondering the same thing for quite some time now, I even have my own character Amber, and I've always wanted to have a tail and ears, I used to pretend I was a dog and i've pretty much got the animal noises down.
Golden sarrow *furry is anthropomorphic* that is not. People get the actual definition wrong. just because fandoms exist, doesnt mean you have to question yourself. The furry fandom seems very broken in my book. They're all over the place, but im not saying mlp fandom is any better, seeing that we have /mlp and fimfiction.
I think it really comes down to what you consider yourself to be and how much of a connection you feel with other furries. Do you hang out on furry internet communities? Do you go to meetings? Do you seek out furry friends in the fandom? If you do I would say yes you are involved in the fandom and you are a furry. If you are not so much involved in contact with other furs than the decision is up to you to make. I think people that enjoy furry artwork aren't by definition furs. My sister works in animation and she enjoys some of the artwork but is not involved in the fandom, she just has a general appreciation for art.
The NSFW part: I understand this can be a negative point. The furry label carries a stereotype that is sometimes hard to deal with. I can't relate to the adult content in a sexual way but it doesn't gross me out either. Some of the stuff isn't much different than the baroque paintings of Greek mythology (which was pretty sexual too). I do have some serious doubts about the importance that some furries attach to the sexual part of the fandom and the ridiculous fetishes people come up with. As we all know however you don't have to be in the furry fandom to come up with weird sexual stuff so no point there in my opinion.
About the suits: I have a friend who is creeped out by the suits as well, (he has a phobia for masks) but considers himself a furry because he hangs out with other furs and discusses furry topics, creates art etc. so the suits are definitely not a requirement. I enjoy the fursuits because I love seeing these live sized creatures coming to life. It's also a way of breaking the daily grind, not just for the suiters but for the public as well. I love the amused and surprised reactions of adults and children alike. I think it is the same thrill a street performer or stage actor gets when performing a show.
To conclude: it really is your choice if you want the label or not as long as you are not afraid to associate yourself with like-minded people. If you feel no connection with other furries then there is no reason for you to be labeled as such. The important thing is that we can explore our creativity freely without the need for labels. Whether it is with a pencil, a suit or just daydreaming.
If I'm interested in and strongly relate to anthropomorphic animals, am I a furry or do I have to be a fursuiter? In general, I'm asking if I count as a furry or not.
I would recommend checking out the follow up video that was put together by AnY and Gibbontake. It may answer that very question for you:
AnYPony rambles about "Furries", illustrated by gibbontake
fursuits are not needed to be a furry :D
I don't have a fursuit. I still consider myself a furry!
watership down: I just wanted to watch a movie about bunnies... D:
I'm a furry and a brony. But honestly, I think both fandoms are cut from the same cloth, and all furries and bronies could be considered anthro fans.
Dr. Wolf.. is it possible to be both? Brony and Furry?
I thought the Drama Llama was from Deviantart?
In your opinions, would you consider sonic characters furries ?
I would love to see you take a look at the works of Dana Simpson, who produces content for both communities. Also answer this, do MLP fans like unicorns, pegisi and horses out side of MLP?
I do, in fact, i spent most of last year researching them. ^^
Yep.
I'm picky about them now. But I still adore the Strawberry Shortcake fillies
6:25 I'd be lying if I didn't say costumes like this in the brony and furry community didn't creep me out.
Oh wow I never thought your brother would mention Watership Down... I LOVE THAT MOVIE ;)
Well that's something anyway now I need to debate either to make an unicorn oc character or Griffin
What do you mean bad image? Is my image bad?
Am I a furry if I am someone who strongly relates to and likes anthropomorphic animals in cartoons or do you have to be a fursuiter to be considered a furry?
I thought we were using them interchangeably--did we use one more than the other? That was not intentional.
What I love about this is the brotherhood that is shown. When your brother said "I beg to differ!" He said in such a way that interpreted it as a playful tone that only a sibling would give. Now, as for the topic discussed, I have to say I agree with both sides, being a furry/pegasister myself. I liked seeing the data produced and analyzed, as well as the overall video.
Patch Pup Kitsune / Ben the Growlithe Yes, I am a furry. And I think you would like MLP. Great story, beautiful animation, and wonderful character development. Of course, there are flaws, but every show has their flaws.
Patch Pup Kitsune / Ben the Growlithe Yes, I have, but that's simply a part of growing as a person.
good video summing up so many factors in one 10 minute long piece of easy to understand video.
One thing both fandoms seem to appreciate is a bit of an addition to 'cute'.
I am proud to take part in both fandoms.
Furaffinity really isn't a site for sharing videos. I mean, you could export them as flash animations sure, but most people tend to favor other formats and youtube...
Does your brother play Minecraft
What do you think is stupid about them?
Can a girl be a furry, or it a fully male fandom like bronies?
I think both are cool. I'm a brony and one of my friends is sort of a furry. We both enjoy bits of each other's fandom, especially the art. That's AWESOME! :D
What's the diffrenc betewn bronys and evler furrys
Please proofread.
You are wrong.
I am a fan of both fandoms currently. Though I have had criticism from both parties.
Some bronies think that because the target audience for MLP is for girls that I simply don't matter nor have any impact on the fandom, even if I am a 33 year old woman. Some furries don't like me because my fursona is a kid and I suppose it makes them angry. I never will understand why having a fursona of 7 years old bothers people. I'm a kid at heart you know? :) However, I have seen lots of love from both sides too. Bronies and furries from around the world see my art and have something to relate to. They leave me comments and ask for art trades. I suppose art is really my connection to both fandoms. Art is my passion after all. :) Also hugs, many many hugs. Thanks for the video, it was very factual and interesting. ^_^
i never realy considered myself a brony/pegasister (i am a girl,so i prefer pegasister) but i don't think i understand exsactly what it means to be a furry, could you please simplefy your explanation on furries for me,please?!?!
I'm a furry, but don't consider myself a brony, but I do enjoy the show and the fan content, but I'm not a die hard fan of it in comparison of the furry fandom/art style. I'm so sure if I would enjoy the show as much as I do if not for the anthropomorphic animals.
the beat way I distinguish furries from bronies is that the furry fandom is a celebration of art and community, while bronies are a celebration of a specific show and coming together to enjoy it
3:33 how is this called? xD
+PolishSnake ''Coward killing time!'' from Ponies the anthology series, which is a remix of team fortress 2 plus MLP highlights
Though I will also agree that the enire Brony fandom did not emerge from the Furry fandom, there are quite a few Bronies and Pegasisters that are also furries. I know because I was once a Pegasister when I was six years old, but now I only draw ponies and horses when I get bored. I am glad to hear honest opinions from Bronies and Furries like you guys about your interests in the fandoms. I have also been a furry my whole life (yes, even as a baby) and by first fursona was A CUTE WIDDLE BUNNY WABBIT!!!!1ONE!! •w• and a lot of kids threatened to kill me for being a furry and I was an outcast until I became proud of who I am today. So yeah, I had to deal with a lot of drama as an elementary school student because a lot of kids there hated furries, but I am still learning not to stoop to their level, and I hope certain people in the Brony community learn the same. We can learn to handle anti-furries (or anti-bronies if some of you reading this are Bronies.)
Indeed--we only had less than 10 minutes to cover a pretty huge topic. What more would you have liked to see in a video like this?
ohh sometimes I think of saying "well I think Brony is like being a fanboy/fangirl of the ponies being blended with furry fandom"
are there going to be Brony lifestylers?
YES Finally a fellow programmer! lol
I must admit I've never heard of furries, then again a few months ago I had never heard of Bronies either. lol
I liked a lot of those animal stories as well, but MLPs values and how entertaining it is are the main reasons I am a Brony and spend a great deal of my time making videos about what the show means to me.
Anyway excellent video! It was really nice seeing people respecting each others positions even though they didn't agree with them
Not bad. But really What is a Brony. And Doctor Wolf I Like your name mostly because I'm a big wolf lover and have you heard of a comic called the whiteboard? I forward to hear from you.
Long live furries!
Greetings Robert. Yes, I do remember reading a comic called "The Whiteboard" for a number of years. I haven't looked into it that much lately, because I've been rather busy with these videos.
Robert Schulz my fav comic stopped up dating, BLACK BLOOD ALLIANCE, so ill check out whitebourd as well.
Interesting. I've only read the first few pages and I'm interested in it. and plz don't call me by my first name or my last. I best know as Red. because of my ability to turn my eyes red.
Dr wolf. it's about bronies and furries why don't other people like them I like them but my friend think I'm weird that I like something that can't be and won't be real even though they like vamps and werewolves. Can you give me a reason why people think it's weird and or wrong to like furries and bronies.
Enough arguments. Arguments are stupid. Whatever you are, own it.
@6:26 whats wrong with fursuits?
I'm a furry more then a brony, but I LOVE the show and even have an oc and all~
I think the only thing keeping me from calling myself a brony is because of some of the people in the fandom I have met at cons before...it usually was kinda weird and it drove me away from the show for awhile.
It wasn't until I started looking at the creative side of the fandom again that my interest re-sparked! There is crazy drama in both fandoms, but I see the furry fandom as more of fans of a form of work (art, fursuiting, ect) and the mlp fandom as revolved around a show~
so It's kinda easy to fit into both haha!
How do you are so easy to get more subscribers
Hiya CloudCuckooCountry--thanks for the comment. As I said in the video, there is a huge variety of genres and media that can be considered as part of the furry fandom. However, this does tend to spread things out quite a bit, and there is less... 'focus', I guess, in the furry fandom as there is in other fandoms.
'Not get into', as in 'not wearing the suit'?
Both fandoms have a peace treaty to say the least.
I thought you were a mouse with the name wolf.
I personally became a Furry because the idea of "Animalic Humans" was always a good idea.
I dont get why furries think this stuff is new. Its been in literature for years.
I'm not a brony, but telling people I watch the show instantly makes them think I'm a brony. When I tell them I'm not, they don't listen.
I agree you need to consider yourself one to be one. People try to force you into it.
Well why don't you just keep your interest to yourself? It's much safer if you keep enjoying/watching my little pony just by keeping you're identity a secret.
There is an old saying: "Two of a trade never agree." The same applies to the broader world of fandoms.
Speaking as one who entered into the Furry fandom rather late in life, and into MLP even later, I can vouch for Teric's argument. Considering that anthropomorphic art is practically as old as humanity itself; and that the MLP franchise is only a few decades old, and the Brony phenomenon but a few years, it is no wonder that Furries are far more diverse. Any group or organization that has been around long enough will inevitably begin to form factions, cliques, and cults.
As for my own history, I began with the usual suspects of animated movies, Saturday morning TV, comic strips and books, etc. It was in my pre-teen years that I found my particular focus or 'obsession'. I was a closet Furry for many years, until I finally went on line and discovered the fandom: I have never (metaphorically) looked back since.
Similarly, when FIM first aired, I was skeptical, having only glimpsed the earlier (and Godawful) generation of MLP. But once in (and also having an affinity to equine characters anyway), I embraced it.
True, I am what one might call a 'moderate' Brony: I generally take the show as it comes, without over-criticizing each episode; I have so far committed only one piece of fan work (a short poem); and am capable of thinking about other things than the show. But still, it is a fun and interesting ride.... 7@=e
I started as an old mlp fan, hated it after a few years as a child, and I wasn't even in either fandom then, I didn't even know about them. I was extremely skeptical when FiM came out, but after watching the first few episodes I was hooked to it. I have but recently discovered furries, I have furry ocs but I still don't understand what exactly "furries" are. Let's just say I'm a very open furry, I don't make fun of people in the different fandoms, religions etc (sometimes I wear a sombrero though o-e). I'm not a huge fan of most republicans though.. But It's not like I'd scream at people just because of that. No, some of my online friends are probably republicans I just don't like some government. Idk...
I noticed you guys kept saying Brony Community when refuring to Bronies and Furry Fandom when talking about Furries. Was that intentional? The words Community and Fandom each kind of give off thier own impresstion.
My journey on becoming a brony actually began when a friend of mine and one of his friends got me to watch Smile HD. That led to a series of events that resulted in me becoming a brony. So thanks guys! :D
In all honesty, my best friend is very much the same. He watches and critiques episodes with me, he frequents artwork and writings and he has even entertained the idea of coming to BronyCon, but he does not consider himself a Brony. It's all in what one considers themself, I suppose.
I’m a furry and my ex boyfriend is a brony. We are still friends, but he couldn’t accept my interest in the furry fandom for some reason so we broke up. I used to be a brony but I fell out of it and into the furry fandom.
