The title says 'Chinese town'... haha no way, Chengdu is a mega city!!! it's huge! it has a lot of traditional architecture but is not a town at all it's a modern city like Shanghai ^^, also I want to point out that his experience is not unique because he is a black guy, I'm latina and lived in Chengdu for several years, the local also treated me the same way. Chengdu people are very friendly!

You also ask restaurants where to get other food that's not theirs. They must be sighing in pain at all the energy they spend on a cheapo.
That's life you don't have to buy just because you inquire about the price. They are used to it unless you're some cuddles idiot who ain't doing business you will never understand.
