Excellent segments as always Tim! Amazing segment with Pat Chun. He gave an excellent perspective on the need to continuously think how to jump curbs to stay afloat during this situation. #goodtogreat
I remember when Cooper got hired I lived in Grandview Heights.. I lived there from 7-13 was one of my favorite places. Used to walk to school an ride bikes all day everywhere.. lol Great memories...
Say what you want about John Cooper -- yes, I know -- but he was a helluva recruiter, he built some great Ohio State teams, he won a lot of games as a Buckeye, and without a doubt, John Cooper was the nicest man/neighbor anyone could ask for. A great guy who was happy to talk Buckeye football with you at Kroger or on a walk around UA. Glad to see him doing so well in retirement.
His struggles vs. TTUN aside, a lot of what tOSU is as a program today came about from his run in the 90s. Consistent top 5/10 finishes, keeping top Ohio talent in state like Terry Glenn (RIP), Joey Galloway, and Orlando Pace PLUS raiding other states for their top players like Eddie George (Pennsylvania), David Boston (Texas), Joe Germaine (Arizona), Shawn Springs (Maryland), etc. He was smart enough to realize they couldn't do it the usual way anymore primarily on brawn and physicality, that you had to equally factor speed and athleticism into the equation like FSU/Florida/Miami were doing at the time to great success. If there was a playoff when he coached, 1998 would've been his year. Hell, when Tressel won in 2002, a number of core players from that team like Will Allen, Mike Doss and Matt Wilhelm were recruited by him. Even Chris Gamble, while he never actually played for Cooper like the others I mentioned, he was recruited by Cooper first.
Great job Mr. May!!! One question I would really like to know from Coach Cooper is: In his opinion what is the biggest difference in football players today vs. 25-30 years ago from a performance/fundamental standpoint...it would be interesting to hear his opinion
He had three of the greatest Buckeye teams I have ever seen. The 1995,1996,and 1998 which along with 2015 are the two most talented teams ever at OSU. He coached some of my favorite Buckeyes ever Eddie George, Orlando Pace, Antoine Winfield, and Robert Smith. He just couldn’t beat TTUN.
A more appropriate title would be John Cooper Nightmares: he never got OSU; he had the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (verb: coopered); and he never understood the magnitude of The Game. His victories resulted from the play of great players, not great coaching.

Great interview with Coach Coop, Tim.
Despite some of the short comings I still appreciate what Coach Coop did for the University.

We luv ya coop.family.go bucks.
Cooper was a good coach. He doesn’t get enough credit for bringing OSU back to relevance.

...and YOU would be 100% correct!
He benefitted from great players and assistant coaches!
I was glad to see him go. The culture of the football team was heading in a bad direction.
