I loved seeing the glimpses of Laijo throughout the episode because you really understood how out of place the stereotypical Bollywood tawaif is. This entire world of struggle, and suffering all at the hands of men, and here is lovelorn Laijo waxing poetic about one of those men, who so clearly won’t love her back
Literally my thought! Richa’s performance was amazing ❤ Unfortunately Sharmin got the most important role and stayed throughout the series …. Her acting was by far the weakest among the female cast..
I agree she totally understood the character and delved even deeper! And she gave the character her own quirks etc She's such a phenomenonal actress! I really enjoyed watching all her interviews on this too - def check them out - she is a very thoughtful actress - she def takes the craft seriously!
I loved her with all my heart, she was my favorite character after Bibbo... I cried like never before with his dance, it was perfect for all the suffering he had, the lyrics, the costumes, the scenery, everything was exquisite .
I have an observation... Notice the use of mirror and pane to show the state of illusion or delusion in the two scenes of Lajjojaan- i. when she is in conversation with Bibbojaan and, ii. when she is outside the cafe; also, in this scene she tries to break the pane and her delusion, but she fails to do so...
God, Richa Chadha is such a powerhouse. You can zoom in on her face during that final part of the mujra (you’re completely right that Lajjo’s Last Dance would’ve been a much better episode title, btw) and with her expressions and physicality alone, she’s telling such a complex story abt what the character is going through in that moment. Great video, and thank you so, so much for the book rec!! I’ve been searching for a good compilation of Meena Kumari’s works for a few weeks now following a rewatch of Pakeezah, and now one’s been delivered to me on a silver platter! This channel is my happy place lol, good things like that just happen here ☺️
I wish she was - we needed more Lajjo!!! Also I'm sceptical about season 2 as well... It seems totally different from season 1 also and I'm not sure if that will be a strength or weakness for the series! I initially hoped that season 2 would be a completely different set of ladies/tawaif characters at a different time period - but still in Heeramandi
@@thatgirltasI have a feeling that season 2 will be fully different as it is tawaifs stepping into to the film industry I think it will be a whole bunch of new characters and a gap of time between this part and second one as all the characters got their endings
@@thatgirltas Season 2 is going to be about them leaving heeramandi and going in to films, as we know regular women did not work in films in rhe 20s and 30s, so they started hiring tawaifs as actors. I am sure there are going to be more central characters introduced
What an amazing review! I really love it when people understand and deep dive into SLBs work instead of blatantly criticizing them for "just being pretty". All this takes so much more effort than people think to just write it off without a second thought. I am glad there are people like you who truly appreciate the nuances in the visual and emotional storytelling. A lot of the indian audiences these days appreciate action shots more and as a result find this kind of series boring. Your video really made me believe there are more people like me. I am really glad this series is being talked about more in international sphere vs a lot of the other indian web series. The styling and costuming deserve to be held in the same regard as bridgerton. Hopefully s2 turns more heads internationally. And I really look forward to your reviews of the rest of the episodes as well as SLBs other work like Bajirao, Padmavaat, Guzaarish, Devdas etc. Keep up the amazing work!❤❤❤
I'm personally a huge fan of analysis type video essays and commentary videos here on YT, and i couldn't be happier seeing a Indian origin content creater making such well executed videos, subscribed and would love to see maybe even south Indian movies covered in the future after the heeramandi series!
Really appretiate your videos, I live in Buenos Aires and my Kathak teacher mentioned she didn't like the show because of it's portrayal of tawaifs. I did not know much about the subject, so every video you make helps me understand more, the historical and the cinematic context, thank you ❤
Sorry but sanja Lela bhansali had so much high expectations for Lajjos character and the actress but his niece who played alamzeb was like a robot in majority of the scenes. Where is his perfectionism when it comes to his niece? His niece could have NEVER performed like Richa did and even the song that sharmin got I truly felt like her dancing, expressions etc were not good at all. Someone like Richa could have brought out so much more in chaudhavi shab. I don’t know it really robs me a wrong way. Richa was phenomenal…
Can you do a deep dive into Lajjo’s last dance ? Like the meaning of her stepping in the flowers, the way the nawab threw the money at her feet, the hand gesture that made him mad etc !
Thank you for another great review! ❤ I really loved Lajjo & I feel like SLB chose Richa because she does look similar to Mina Kumari. She acted so well and she was definitely one of the main highlights of the show. TBH besides Sharmin Segal everyone was amazing! Sharmin was 200% miscasted ..
Heyyy thank you for watching ❤️❤️ I didn't buy them - I had them all made at a local t shirt print shop! I always pick my fav scenes / character from movies for my t shirts!!!

such a great point and observation 💯💯💯
@@thatgirltasthankssss ❤️and thank you for the pin 🙏
The best character killed in just the second episode 🥲👎🏼💔she was definitely a female devas
💯💯Richa Chadha deserves SO MUCH PRAISE FOR THIS ROLE!!!

Richa Chadha ATE the role .... honestly was one of my favourite characters

So sad cause Lajjo won't be present in 2nd season...so is bibbojan. I don't even sure if this series NEED a second season.

random but the fit and hair that Zorawar's fiance had going on in the cafe scene had me in a chokehold, like I need that in my wardrobe so bad

Thank you for watching 💐💐💐
I love Lajjo's song! I wish I could dance and do covers of it, it's so good!

Can you do a deep dive into Lajjo’s last dance ? Like the meaning of her stepping in the flowers, the way the nawab threw the money at her feet, the hand gesture that made him mad etc !
It’s because I’m Mexican and I want a good break down of her last mujra but I LOVE this show
