I love Dave's classes! here's a tip: people, for very strong essential oils, I do dilution (this is important so as not to overlap in the composition of a fragrance as well as not to irritate the skin) .. for example the pink pepper essential oil is very strong ... suddenly 1 drop of it pure can spoil its entire composition, but 1 drop of it diluted to 1% can work wonders....the same goes for cinnamon Obs .: I dilute it in isopropyl Miristrato. (Forgive my bad English, I'm from Brazil)
Hi Dave, love the rose soap that you kindly added to my order. For anyone who wants a soap that is beautiful and creamy, try Dave's. Very nice product! :)
Hi Dave, Big thanks for the information and all the knowledge you provide us with! Its really easy to understand and helps me a lot to understand more about perfume in general but also in detail!! Now iam at the point to start making/bleding/ mixing my own materials and my questione is: what kind of alcohol should i use for the best results? Because i read a lot about perfumers alcohol, that that does not really do the job very well🤔 Instead of pure alchohol/ethanol would be better… what is your opinion/advice? Looking forward hearing from you! Grtz T
Happy New Year Dave. This is Sunil from India. I have been viewing your videos almost on a daily basis. I too am getting into perfumery, though have been a collector so far and have quite a few. For the moment I am working with premade perfume oils for my own personal use, and want to understand what is the best way to increase the longevity and projection of these oils. I have galaxolide, ambroxan crystals and also thinking of getting ISO E-Super as I have heard all these help for the purpose. But what I am unable to understand is if it's necessary to include all these 3 compounds/chemicals to the final mix or is there any secret ratio that I can use. Or do I need to use a specific chemical based on the profile of the perfume oil? Someone told me that he has made a secret formula using the above 3 compounds that increase both longevity and projection and people who have used his perfumes vouch for it as well. So kind of confused how to move forward with this.
Galaxoilde will not give you projection at all. It is a musk that has fixative properties. It does not need to go in all of your formulas. Ambroxan Will not give you projection but will give you longevity. You use this based on its aroma in a formula. Iso e super can help with longevity but again is used based on its aroma which is like a clear amber aroma. It will not give you any projection at all. Real projection comes from the real aldehydes. Dave
I feel like such an idiot asking this but how do you work out how much perfumer alcohol to put with the oils for a 15%, 20% concentration etc. Thanks 😊
You do this by weight. Perfumers use grams. So if you have 1 g of a total Formula and you want to make it a 20% Perfume then it will be 4 g of perfumers alcohol for a total of 5 g of a final fragrance.
Thank you Dave!! I am taking copious notes! Someday I would love to make a delightful amber perfum, also liking musk and the idea of a dark cherry vanilla tobacco musk, with amber as the main player if that's possible. Any thoughts? I am a total newbie and will try your cetalox iso e super idea 😃 I wish you many beautiful scent memories in the new year.
It is Fig, Oakmoss and Green Tea! Soap takes 6 weeks to cure fully but it smells amazing!!!! Only about 2 weeks left until it is ready! Thank you for noticing it! I hope you are doing well! Dave
No such thing as non-denatured perfumer's alcohol. The very reason why it's called perfumer's alcohol and not just regular grain alcohol is because additives are added to it to make it taste horrible and unsuitable for consumption. I think the person who submitted that question simply meant a standard, drinkable grain alcohol like high proof vodka or everclear and because they want to use it to dilute their perfume, they just call it perfumer's alcohol.
Thank you for your post and Happy New Year...love your work

Perfumers Alcohol is best. It is 99.9% ethanol. It is way better then vodka or other alcohols because of the high water content. Dave

Cherry is going to be para Tulaldehyde at 5%, then other things I LOVE are iso butavan, and liatrix AB and/or blonde Tobacco AB
Thank you sooooo much! It's like you knew my question and answered it 😁💕I found out Benzaldehyde wasn't what I needed, lol.
Your soap pic looked good at the end. What scent did u give it? How did it turn out?

Can you use just DPG oil to make perfume and not use eth alcohol
yes
