You know Game Freak hates Regigigas when they forced it to have Slow Start in Legends Arceus--the game where Abilities got ditched--and casually made Legendaries that are far broken than it would've been at full strength.

Actually in PLA, slow start is NOT a debuff, you get full power regigigas, but if you last 5 turns you get the boost Alphas get. I wish it worked like that in the actual games...

I still stand by the fact that if slow start only halved speed instead of speed and attack, it would have actually been a solid threat. The half speed would make it effective in trick room teams and if it managed to persist on the field long enough then it’s unshackled speed would make it still a potent threat the moment trick room ends naturally

13:43 Correction - Regigigas' attack being halved does **not** make it a flat 80. Stats aren't calculated that way.
Regigigas' maximum Attack stat is 460, which is halved to 230 with Slow Start. Assuming maximum investment, 230 Attack is equivalent to *between 55 and 56 base Attack.*
Here's Starly putting out identical numbers to Regigigas:
    252+ Atk Slow Start Regigigas Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: *108-127 (31.6 - 37.2%) -- 83.8% chance to 3HKO*
    252+ Atk Starly Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: *108-127 (31.6 - 37.2%) -- 83.8% chance to 3HKO*
Rattata also leaves Regigigas in the dust.
    252+ Atk Rattata Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: *109-129 (31.9 - 37.8%) -- 91% chance to 3HKO*

Conversely, this is why Huge Power, Pure Power and Thick Club Marowak are so strong. Doubling the actual stat is worth a LOT more than doubling the base stat. I've noticed Chugga misses this a lot in his Pokemon LPs, often calling Medicham a "mixed attacker" when its actual physical power vastly eclipses its special power.

Pignati, Entry Log 86: *Stretches* the fact I’ve become numb to meeting even the Legendary Continent puller is saying a lot. After capturing Registeel thanks to someone else who found the key for us. We managed to awaken Regigigas after finding him at the bottom of Twist Mountain. After McFly softened him up the fight went to our new friend Regirock who tanked for us for most of the fight. Afterward, we went on to explore the mountain we couldn’t get to before. So far, it’s been a nice look around.
McFly, Entry Log 81: Marvelous! After a nice tussle with Registeel who couldn’t seem to understand my immunity to electric attacks. We go to meet the big one, the one known for immense power and creating complex creations. Too bad it’s clear that laying dormant for so long left the mighty golem incredibly slow and weak, at least for a time. Still didn’t stop it from knocking me down after a few blows though. I’ve never been all that resilient to be fair. After that, we went to Twist Mountain and I wondered how it became this shape.
Aiden, Entry Log 76: A slow day for me. Aside from some alright fights, I don’t have much to talk about. I must say though getting to explore this last area of Unova before seeing the bottom right makes me think about how we’re nearing the end more or less. This is a topic that’s been brought up more than once on this journey but one that keeps popping into my head. *sigh* I hope I’m ready for when the time comes.
Jade, Entry Log 69: So, me and Lasagna got some needed alone time with each other in the PC however brief it was. We went on a thing humans call a date. Exploring every single box and getting caught up with all of the other pokémon in here. It was quite the adventure and allowed us to just talk and explore our feelings in more depth. Our love goes well beyond the physical and we really admire each other one way or another. I just want us to be the best for each other and the more we hang out the more confident I become.
Harmony, Entry Log 60: Seeing Registeel and Regigigas unlocked even more memories. Of times of both worship and fear. Such a powerful being was quite gentle most of the time but when enraged they become a berserker with no restraint. No wonder they were sealed away after some time yet still revered as an entity of both fame and infamy. I think these beings live all over the world too just all sealed away and waiting to be released when the time comes.
Lasagna, Entry Log 28: My time with Jade in the PC was precious and I got to learn way more about her too, yes I did. Learning about her personal likes and dislikes, what motivates her, what makes her smile, and what she prefers to eat, is so much to know. I want to show this lass that I am the one for her, yes I do. So, I will be catering to her every need and desire the best I can. While also making sure I am the best version of myself and will be able to prove to myself that I am worthy of Jade, yep yep.
Lasagna (without shell, lengthwise) 2’07”~, Aiden 3’03”, Harmony and Lasagna (with shell) 4’07”, Pignati 5’03”, McFly 5’11”, Jade 6’07”.

I've never bothered, or really been able to, go after the Regis in this game, mostly because of the key system, so this is all new content for me.
I finally got around to playing the Scarlet dlc recently, and Chugga's recent legendary struggles make me feel better about the thirty or so balls I chucked at Okidogi today that barely shook once while it was at a sliver of its health. I can't remember a legendary battle in any recent Pokemon game that took me as long as that did. My switch was at 5% battery when I finally caught it.
And the monkey only took, like, three Ultra balls max.
That's just legendary pokemon luck for you.
The sequel to Platinums Regigigas art is here! And it as glorious as I expected. What a difference these few years make.
Granted, it's still Regigigas, but who cares! The has returned, and he's no longer only level one.
The locked Glaceon to the post game on purpose, and it saddens me. I love Glaceon. It's my favorite Eevee alongside Espeon, but you're almost never able to use it in a playthrough.
    Rip Heatmor. Always forgotten.
The only reason I ever used Heatmor was to complete a type triangle for the PWT during my first playthrough.
Needless to say, I never got far in the PWT. Heatmor is the definition of mediocre.
I've never seen Cryogonal's chains as a moustache. I've always seen it as a creepy, drooling mouth. The thing is a demon snowflake.

So I may be one of the two or three people in the world to love heatmor. Firstly, like you pointed out with bug bite, it has comical lore with Durant and I'm always so appreciative of Pokémon duos. Secondly, it has such a diverse move pool which I think gets heavily overlooked just because it isn't available until very late in every game it's been in. I think the earliest is XY where it's after the 6th gym. And finally, it's one of my favourite shinies, it gives so much more of a volcanic feel and it just looks cool. Its one of those more forgotten Pokémon that has a place in my heart

I appreciate how Snacksworth's legendaries in Scarlet/Violet function very similar to the key system, with some being version-exclusive just doing Solo BB Quests, but all of them being available through Group Quests (plus some "third cover legends" EXCLUSIVE to Group Quests)

  • @Venemofthe888
    @Venemofthe888 9 месяцев назад +10

I really like the idea of sharing exclusive legendary pokemon as chugga said and is the best use of the key system. Sword and Shield could share exclusives if they appeared in raids too where a player from the other game can connect to them and catch it.
Also these were the first games you might have been able to get the regis including Regigigas and its relatively simple to get them. Only one other set of games id say its easier to get them all with 2 more added to the family way in the future of these games.
Also another thing with Glaceon it drives me absolutely nuts that usually you cant get it until near the end of the game or very late in the adventure until Sword and Shield. Even in ORAS they put the moss rock in Petalburg woods so you could get it earlier. What makes me even more mad is that in the Ultra Games they reworked the Seward Cave into a Ice Area but couldnt put the Ice Rock in there. Its not like Glaceon has too much to do in the early game of the Alola Games apart from the Grass Trial. Thank Goodness they changed how you get Leafeon and Glaceon in Sword and Shield

    • @PIKMINROCK1
      @PIKMINROCK1 9 месяцев назад +1

So the thing about Glaceon is more related to what I dub the type tiers. Essentially Game Freak tries to make a natural progression of Pokemon available can have as a type. There's types that they decide you can have on route 1 (Normal, Bug, Grass, Flying, Dark starting Gen 3), stuff that's a bit into the game (Fighting, Poison, Rock, Fire, Water, Fairy) and so on. Game Freak seemingly tiers Ice with Dragon and puts only in the later third of the game. IDK why several lock the Icy Rock until the endgame/post game instead of like the 6th gym

I remember this being the last OOOH Moment in Pokémon I had for years.
Exploring play tunnel, and eventually finding the hidden Regi chamber; constantly changing my DS time from day tonight to try to figure out the puzzle, and when I eventually found out that it opened a chamber and a legendary. Pokémon I’ve only ever seen in a. Pokémon movie was sitting there I was freaking the heck out!
At the time I own multiple DS systems and a copy black and white two so trading the keys back-and-forth was awesome and then eventually wandering through twist mountain, and again finding another legendary. Pokémon I’ve only seen in the anime it was great; and a moment I will never forget.
Also, not so fun fact, this is the only game where the king of the Reggies actually has the Regi battle theme; platinum it has the generation 4 a legendary theme.
Same thing for the ruby and sapphire remakes.
Same thing again for ultra sun and moon

To think that since its debut, it took all the way until Gen VIII (Sword/Shield) for it to actually be able to get around its crippling weakness as it then can learn moves like Rest and Recover to help it stall out foes with its tremendous bulk of its triple 110/110/110 defensive spread and only being weak to Fighting. Yep that's right, it took four generations after its debut for it to actually be good and not horrible in terms of its physical Attack. Thankfully it does learn some Physical moves that use other mechanics like:
    - Heavy Slam/Heat Crash which increase in power the heavier the user is compared to the opponent and Regigigas weighs a lot 925.0 lb/420 kg.
    - Body Press which works off the user's Defense Stat, doing more damage the higher it is. Max IVs/EVs with a Defense positive nature is 178 at Lvl 50 and 350 at Lvl 100.
On its Special side it's not as decent because it only has 145 Sp.Atk at Lvl 50 and 284 Sp.Atk at Lvl 100 if you run full IVs/EVs in Sp.Atk with a positive nature. It does learn Earth Power, Focus 'Miss', Icy Wind, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Round and Hyperbeam in Sw/Sh so it's not too shabby. The only physical move you'd then want is Crush Grip.
For BD/SP, it's able to learn Psych Up which it can't learn in Gen VIII. Take note that it can use this on an ally or an opponent that tried to set-up on it by buffing their stats if the enemy didn't try to get rid of the offensively weakened golem. This actually gets around Slow Start semi-decently as if the opponent buffed their Attack and Speed and somehow can't defeat it right away.
The negative about Slow Start in PLA is pretty much the opposite due to the mechanics in that game, sure it moves long after you as it gets an Attack/Turn Speed nerf in a game where abilities shouldn't even exist but that doesn't mean too much. The Attack nerf means little because it can still flatten opponents due to how damage is calculated.

In terms of satisfying legendary hunting, not sure about satisfying but Gen 6 does have Zygarde hidden in Terminus Cave, even though after that with Gen 7 and 8 there was less of a “go find the legendaries” (especially in SwSh where the base game had one empty wild area, a few corridor route leaving no exploration, and the DLC which are mostly “you can find legendaries at these locations”)
But Gen 9 has the Quartet of Ruin and Indigo Disc looks like it will have legendaries you will have to find across Paldea and the other two DLC locations so there is hope for satisfying legendary hunting

It's worse. Slow Start halves the total stat, not the base. So you end up with around 55 to 57 as a base stat.
To put this into perspective a Dedenne will hit physically harder than Slow Start Regigigas.
In conclusion, it is much worse than what is probably intended

I have very fond memories of finding Regigigas in my first playthrough. I knew what the original Regi trio were, thanks to the Emerald Let's Play funnily enough and I recognized them when I found them later, but I had never seen Regigigas and I had no idea they were related. Because of this I had no idea what the "Body of Rock, Ice and Steel" hints meant, my guess for the Steel one was actually Cobalion because of how it's pokedex entries mention it having a heart of iron or something like that.
Interesting thing to note about this Regigigas encounter. For whatever reason, this, is the one and only time in the series where Regigigas actually gets the Regi Battle theme. Literally every other time, DPPt, USUM, even ORAS, he just gets the generic Sinnoh legendary theme, besides SwSh where he's a raid boss. As someone who is a massive fan of music in video games and how tracks are used, it's so weird and kinda disappointing.

Regarding what you were saying about how modern games implement legendaries, I think Ultra Sun would have been great at doing this if they had fleshed out the wormholes more. If the locations in those holes were designed as full fleshed worlds to explore with unique puzzles for each ultra beast or legendary then I would be confident that Ultra Sun did it best. However, because the Wormhole worlds are just on location as a straight line, it just felt like missed potential.

I love Regigigas on a conceptual level, a Pokemon that starts off weak but then passively gets really strong, especially for a Legendary, is an interesting idea. Limitations that you need to work around to take advantage of is one of my favourite tropes in customizing and synergizing builds and teams in games. It raises interesting questions like "Do I wanna take moves that stall for more turns, or different coverage moves to better take advantage of it when Slow Start wears off?"... With that said, Regigigas' limitation is just way too harsh in these games, I feel it would be a lot better if it was balanced around the fact it goes against how Pokemon is actually played in reality rather than how it currently stands.

Crush Grip should deal a flat 75% damage. Like, yeah, Regigigas is slowed down and can't punch good, but you'll still get crushed if it manages to grab you. This way, Regigigas could at least work as a slow bulky attacker that cripples enemy Pokémon with Crush Grip and then finishes them off with an attacking move. Yeah, it's a little strong, but this is a colossal super titan who lords over the other Regis, it SHOULD be strong.

Got a few things to say from this episode and the last one since they kind of go together:
YES! They SHOULD'VE used the Regi doll sprites for the Regis in Emerald, I've thought this for so long!
I've been talking about this the past few days, about how ORAS was the last game to put any effort into its Legendary Pokemon. Even if most of them come from Hoopa portals, they're still in locations you would expect them to be. Heatran is in the Scorched Slab, the Forces of Nature are in a storm cloud, the Creation Trio are in a space-time rift, the Lake Guardians have their signature pattern on the floor, Cresselia is on a crescent-shaped island, and Regigigas is... ridiculous, but at least thought out. It would've been a different story if USUM's Ultra Wormhole took you to unique environments for each one like they do for the Ultra Beasts, maybe recreations of their original appearance like Platinum's Distortion World or Spear Pillar, the Snowpoint Temple, Seafoam Islands, Power Plant and Mt Silver, and so forth. Sword/Shield onwards just dump them all under the proverbial magic rug so competitive players have access to them. Black/White 2 does such a good job of adding them organically, the music is a remix of the old Gen 3 Sealed Chamber theme, their battle themes are back, Regirock's puzzle is the same as in Gen 3 and as you said, the way the other two are unlocked is a genius compromise between version-exclusives and not having to buy two games.
It's unfortunate that the only game in the whole series to make Glaceon available at the same time as the other Eeveelutions is a remake and thus probably won't be covered by Emile, at least not for a long time. Yes it's ORAS because ORAS is based like that.

There's a fun fact about Regigigas, its design is based on it being sealed away for so long that those hedges and moss grew on its body naturally. Thematically, Slow Start makes sense for it being such a disappointment for a "king" or legendary pokemon. Because of Legends Arceus and the new Primal forms Palkia and Dialga got for being at their full power, this only suggests that Regigigas was never revealed at its prime because its been sealed away before the time period where Legends Arceus takes place in.

Fun fact: B2W2 is the only game in the entire series where Regigigas uses the Regi battle theme instead of the standard Sinnoh Legendary theme (or Dynamax battle theme in the case of Crown Tundra).
It is a strangely consistent thing revolving around Regigigas that he never uses the special theme used for the Regis, except for this game.
It is not that they didn't include the Sinnoh Legendary theme in the game, since Heatran uses that. It's just... very odd....

That really bother me when emile play platinum and battle regigigas i was like "why can they just use the regi battle theme from the start instead of having it own battle theme"

I prefer Fire Punch on Emboar over Heat Crash. While 75 base power isn't the highest, it's usually high enough and far more consistent.
