This is criminally underrated. Everyone who truly loves The Doors should hear this at least once. It's insanely beautiful.

I agree that it's a deeply touching album. Jim voice and interpretive style with his group mates creating something new with him. It's Beautiful and, In some ways, haunting.

Hey @POPE, that were a real journey - you're the first to play the complete album and I thank you for that! What a great thank you to a deceased friend to set this music to his last (recorded) words. That's really grateful. And because you also present musicians like this, I love your channel for this extraordinary taste for people like your age! Thanks for sharing this special recording from The Doors for a missed friend. R.I.P Jim Morrison and Ray Manzerek. Best regards @all from hamburg (germany)

One song on L.A. Woman " WASP(Texas Raidio & The Big Beat)" comes from a long suloquoy( my bad grammer: solo- kw-oy) about two young maiden going for a walk & recites,a live rendition can be found on " Live In Europe" but the studio cut with Jerry Scheff(Bass) & a rhythm guitarist BANGS SO HARD!! The thump feels like Funky Slap upside the Head!!😊

Glad you just let yourself experience it. A lot of people our age dismiss older stuff like this because of it's age or lack of visualizer. I adore this album with all its poetry and amazing Doors music. Jim was goofy and philosophical and truly timeless. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it too! It's a can of worms but check out Frank Zappa! He's such a musical oddball and genius that is as well underappreciated. I recommend Freak Out, or Overnite Sensation!

Dude, just stumbled upon your reaction here, this is great! An American Prayer, like others have said, is under rated and overlooked. Great imagery combined with the music. In the beginning, it's very much autobiographical, Jim having really experienced seeing a car crash in the Arizona desert, and then growing up on a military base. haven't heard this in awhile, brings back such memories! Thanks for doing this!

The album was released in 78. I met my current wife in 79. We had been seeing each other a few short weeks when she first came to my apartment. We were sitting on the floor just talking and I told her to put some music on. She looked through my album collection and then told me to choose one. I really didn't know much about her, but I figured her reaction to "An American Prayer" would tell me a lot. It did. We never said a word throughout the whole album, but the silence and the expression on her face told me all I needed to know. I knew right then, we would eventually be married. We got married in May of 1980 and we are still together. Although I know, after reading the book "No One Here Gets Out Alive", I am sure I would not have liked Jim Morrison as a person. But as a poet, the inspiration, and the singer for The Doors, I have nothing but admiration for his poetry and singing abilities. I have often wondered if my wife and I would have stayed together if she (or I) had chosen another album by someone else. Thank you for playing this album to remind me of how much one simple album affected my whole life.

Jim's Poetry/Lyrics are a very Raw expression of Human Nature. The good, bad and Ugly. It's only when you fully explore and honestly reflect on your actions and their implications on others that you may find your Moral compass. One dance with the devil may not be enough for some, especially when our Media and Culture are asking, begging you to keep dancing. Jim understood this problem with the Media and Human nature to go along into this Destruction.
"Everything is Broken up, and Dances"
