This was the first Nascar race I went to. I was 13 years old and the sheer force of all that horsepower scared me. when those cars passed me in between the grandstands of turns 3 and 4 I made sure I wore ear plugs. Like cars were off throttle passing me and still felt my body rumbling. Such powerful machines back in the day unlike now. But three things stick out that night.. Brain vickers wreck... The other Kahne was the car to beat but more importantly Jeff Gordon was the best driver that night after being involved in two separate crashes also being 2 laps down and bounced back after all that for a runner up finish with half a car. Dude if only Nascar was still this good
Richmond was my "first" race too as a kid under 10 (I'm 36). Such an awesome track back then. I remember sitting on back stretch in one race and just off turn 4 in another. We went to the driver's exit area and a pit crew threw me a used rag. Simple but awesome! Bobby Labonte was my favorite driver and he nearly won which meant I could have met him but he crashed. The technical first race I went to was Pocono but it wasn't fun because you can't see anything unless on jumbo tron
Never forget sitting in turn 4 this weekend freezing my tail off watching these races. Looking back, this was one of the best races I’ve ever seen in person.
Was at this race when I was only 8. Kahne was dominating. Definitely had the best car that day but ended up with tough luck. I remember Jr, Johnson, and Gordon battling it out at the end like it was yesterday
Racing is great, plenty of big-name, full-season sponsors, field is full of thriving teams and well-known drivers, NASCAR was covered in the mainstream, and the crowd at this race was even bigger than what the Daytona 500 gets now. I want to go back.
Being a Gordon fan, after this race was over, I swear it felt like a win. This would be his last top 10 or 20 finish at Lowe's (Charlotte) , until his win in the fall of 2007
I remember watching this race live. As a Kahne fan at the time, seeing him up in the wall after putting on a clinic was so heartbreaking. If only nothing broke on that car.

Coil binding, bump stops, and asymmetrical bodies hadn’t been discovered yet. Well the bodies were slightly asymmetrical, but 2006 and 2007 got pretty nasty. Downforce at 150mph would plant the nose. The teams beat the minimum ride height rule and thus clean air became a premium and the racing went down hill. People were blind to how good the racing the COT provided for us because they were “ugly” there was no “brand identity”. I’d be willing to bet that everyone would like to see it again.
Sure a hundred fifty degrees inside of that car with no Cuvee except for the ambient air and maybe a cool suit wake this is back in 2004 probably not controlling a car at over 900 horsepower sure this takes no athletic ability at all

So Many different paint schemes for this race it was crazy
HMS in all Silver
I still cannot believe how fast Kahne's car was this race. He got out to massive 5 second leads in under a dozen laps, insane.
Makes his crash late all the more painful.
@@whoasked9500 It really does. Jimmie is my driver and I love that he swept, but Kahne deserved that win so much.
@@PotPynamite He literally had a Kyle Larson 2014 or Chase Elliott 2016 kind of season.
@@whoasked9500 He got 2nd, what, 6 times? Pain.
@@PotPynamite I think Kevin Harvick got 2nd more times than that in like, 2015 or 2016 or something. At least he won races though.
I still miss Allen Bestwick!

Those were the good old days.
*Sigh*
Miss these engines going over 10k, best sounding year of gen 4
I just miss cars going fast at track in nr2003 i live on speed I literally turn the weather -165 just so I can go 200 mph at darlington cause it's fun
@@j9vlikz683 i just set temp to 40 degrees in testing and run with low fuel to go fast. average speed 195mph at lowes

Gordon almost won the race after being awful early and crashing. Legend
I guess it is kind of randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Lorenzo Carmelo i dunno atm I have been using Flixportal. Just search on google for it:D -winston
@Winston Langston Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !!
@Lorenzo Carmelo you are welcome xD
Made up for Game 3 of the ALCS....then the Sox came back to win anyways

He had a bad fast car in the coke 600 in 2007 as well but sadly crashed out early in a crash that wasn’t his fault
@@shawnchristianson324 was an awful lick he took that night.
Seeing that many large scale sponsors on so many cars reminds me that things aren't quite like they used to be.
This race gives me Vietnam flashbacks.
Lmao
Somewhere in nascar’s video vault is a copy of each onboard camera from this race. As legendary as the sound is, it should posted for us to hear.
Can we make the racing like this again please
It beats anything we are gonna see this weekend, id bet. Thanks for the HQ 💜
Thanks people for be in this race! Also: NASCAR IS A SPORT!!!!!!
How in the world did the 99 team make a driver change and NOT lose a lap? Badass
Thanks NASCAR for the upload.
Wally is very entertaining and funny as hell
Holy hell Charlotte was bumpy
Probably the most Heartbreaking loss of Kasey’s career
Dover in the same season is right up there
I remember watching this race live. As a Kahne fan at the time, seeing him up in the wall after putting on a clinic was so heartbreaking. If only nothing broke on that car.
I felt so bad for Kasey Kahne
I remember watching this race man that's too bad for Kasey Kahne had the best car led 207 laps and an Awesome paint scheme

Why isn’t racing like this anymore it makes me sad

Would love to see JJ win again
Hey nascar please add a few more of classic races dale sr 1998 Dayton 500 and Jeff Gordon first Bush series and cup wins
Throwback Thursday
Las Vegas getting no love. I hope they upload a Martinsville race someday.
And I don't mind this, a race is a race.
This Was During The Inaugural Chase for The Cup
The chase and playoffs was one of the first nails in nascars coffin.
Take a shot every time the announcer says "If you're new to NASCAR"
How In The Hell Did Jeff Gordon Finished 2nd
Because he's the G.O.A.T.
Look Cars with Horsepower and That can actually pass. None of that dreaded "aero" push!!!!
Yessss great upload
here before the description is updated to say 'complete' instead of "compete"
Wait a minute, I thought Kacey Kane was the #20, Jimmy Johnson was the #84, And Dale Jarrett #18, What's up?
good race
CJ Wins!
This just might be my least favorite of the starting grid graphics
JASON STARKEY 19 FEBRERO 1968
Nice
Busch should have lost the championship twice in that race
Mears's spongebob movie car tho
Cool
Jaime mc murray
omg
NASCAR is not a sport!
Yes is it

Try doing it then.
