I was like, ‘What? Banarasi Saree? What is there to write about it? It’s just a saree!’ But then I thought of the many times my mother had worn one and how she looked so beautiful in it. And that got me thinking…
I started researching on the history of this saree and found out some really interesting facts about it. So here goes:
The Banarasi Saree has been around for centuries now (since at least 300 AD). The city of Varanasi (also known as Benares or Kashi) is famous for its weaving industry which produces these exquisite pieces of art. These are made from pure silk with intricate designs woven into them using gold and silver threads called zari work . They are also embellished with precious stones such as rubies, emeralds etc., making them very expensive indeed! This type of fabric can be used to make anything from dresses to bed sheets but most commonly they are used in making traditional Indian clothing such as saris or lehengas (long skirts). There are two types - Organza Silk & Georgette Silk; both have their own unique characteristics which makes each one special in its own way 🙂 A typical banarsi sari will cost anywhere between Rs 5000-10000 depending upon quality/designer label etcetera…but if you want something more elaborate then expect prices upwards Rs 25000/- per piece!! That being said though, there are cheaper versions available too starting at around Rs 1000/- onwards so don’t worry if your budget doesn’t allow you splurge right away 😉 You can find these gorgeous creations all over India but especially popular places include Delhi NCR region where many designers showcase their latest collections every year during fashion weeks held annually since 2008 till date 🙂 Some other cities where they sell well include Mumbai Bangalore Hyderabad Chennai Pune Lucknow Jaipur Ahmedabad Surat Nagpur Kanpur Indore Bhopal Patna Bhubaneswar Coimbatore Kochi Thiruvananthapuram Kozhikode Mysuru Mangalore Visakhapatnam Vijayawada Tiruchirappalli Madurai Nashik Aurangabad Kolhapur Amritsar Ludhiana Jalandhar Chandigarh Dehradun Raipur Ranchi Guwahati Shillong Agartala Imphal Dimapur Silchar Gangtok Darjeeling Jamshedpur Dhanbad Asansol Rourkela Cuttack Bhilai Bilaspur Korba Jabalpur Gwalior Ujjain Sagar Satna Rewa Ratlam Morena Chhatarpur Shivpuri Guna Vidisha Damoh Khajurao Datia Tikamgarh Singrauli Shahdol Mandla Balaghat Seoni Betul Hoshangabad Harda Burhanpur Dewas Neemuch Barwani Alirajpur Jhabua Dhar Badnawar Petlawad Manawar Kukshi Sendhwa Pansemal Rajgarh Sailana Sanwer Depalpur Narsingarh Garoth Mandsaur Suwasara Piploda Sitamau Malajkhand Akaltara Bagbahara Pandaria Basoda Budni Berasia Ichhawar Seondha Ashoknagar Kareli Rehti Multai Gadarwara Teonthor Anuppu
The history of Banarasi sarees dates back to Mughal era when they were woven with gold and silver threads which made them very expensive but also very popular among royals who could afford them easily. These days you can find these sarees in different fabrics like silk, cotton etc., making them affordable for everyone! They are still considered one of most luxurious items because their intricate designs take months or even years before completion due to hand-weaving process involved during production time frame from start till end product delivery date has been reached successfully without any delays whatsoever
