I was 18 yrs old and my mother called and said she got 4 tickets from work for free and would I want them. I took 3 friends and it was in an outdoor arena in the summer in Chicago. Imagine our surprise when she came out as a mariachi and the whole concert was in Spanish. At first we were confused and then we knew we were experiencing something very very special. It was phenomenal and the best part was she came out and did an encore of Blue Bayou and You’re no good. The 2 songs I wanted so badly to hear. A magical night for sure.
Gorgeous pipes. Pure, powerful singer with loads of tenderness. Ronstadt turned many of us on to such a wide array of music - we remain deeply grateful. Viva Linda.
Her voice just GUSHES from her. When she hits the long notes it's like a ray of sunshine bursts through the cellar door into your soul. She's magnificent.
This is an interesting choice for your wife’s first listen. I love EVERYTHING Linda does so I love this and all of her Spanish (Mariachi) music, even though I don’t even speak the language. Hers is the most beautiful voice on the planet. 🌺✌️
This album, Canciones de Mis Padres (Songs of My Fathers) was successful, so she released a second one called Mas Canciones (More Songs). Both albums are fantastic, like everything Linda does. Thanks for doing this. Glad your wife is participating.
@@jesus7751 okay! Love Linda! We are both right. From Google: “ What does the Spanish word charreada mean in English? . A Mexican rodeo based on the traditional working practices of charros.”
I have loved Linda Ronstadt since the early 70s. She began as the lead singer of The Stone Poneys ("Different Drum") and when she went solo, her backing band consisted of members of The Eagles! I was able to see her live in 1978 in San Diego. Of course, it was at the height of her pop career, but omfg!! And her voice sounded exactly like her studio recordings. Too bad her health has declined as of late and she no longer performs live, but we have these videos! 🎤💃😍
To those of us who grew up with Linda, she was simply a gift from God. A beautiful talented artist, who knew the value of integrity, both personally and as a performer. You both ( along with your viewers) might enjoy this live, blast from the past. It’s Linda covering The Stones hit,”Tumbling Dice.” Fact; Linda live was NEVER lazy as a singer. She gave everything on every song. (Those who know this lyric,”She was a credit, too her gender.”) Hope you give her rock side some love. She shines.
For her ability to master/own any genre at any tempo she sings and in more than one language seemingly effortlessly, Linda Ronstadt stands atop my 70 plus years list of favorite female singers. The competition is steep but she is deserving of this crown. A decision for which I have no hesitation.
She’s a beautiful and powerful singer in each of her incarnations. I love her entire career, as a solo artist, as a part of Trios which puts together three of the most beautiful female voices, and I love this album which is a tribute to her father. She also did a fantastic Broadway play, one of the most famous operettas in history- the Pirates of Penzance. From folk to southern spiritual to modern rock to traditional mariachi to the classical Gilbert and Sullivan, her range, her vocal expressions, her voice control is unmatched across genres.
Linda Ronstadt is one of my all-time favorite female singers. I absolutely love her album "Canciones de Mi Padre." It's been reported for years that she has Parkinson's disease which has stopped her from being able to sing. In 2019 I believe, they found out that it wasn't Parkinson's, it's a different disease which is similar. "Ronstadt, now 73, prematurely retired from her decades-long singing career due to a rare condition called progressive supranuclear palsy, which is similar to Parkinson's disease and has no known cure. Dec 28, 2019" We are all blessed to have the ability to access her music for generations to come!
Enjoyed it. Nice looking couple. Linda Ronstadt is a throw back to a time when singing counted. She was also fearless. She explored multiple genres. My only regret is she didn't go into salsa.
she was my favorite pop/rock artist of the 70's when I was a teen. All the guys rocked Led Zeppelin and the girls would come home and listen to Linda. Now at 62 I am way into Zeppelin but Linda holds alot of my teenage feelings in her music from back then. She was amazing!
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of my Voice is a great documentary of her life and career from her childhood in Tucson through her decades long career and to her retirement in 2011 due to Parkinson's disease. Great reaction.
an Awesome Ronstadt documentry so is "Linda and the Mockingbirds"...sadly her health has deteriorated since those movies were made just few short years ago...she made an appearance at a Tucson book fair in Mar 2023...did not look well...like she said "this disease moves slowly, but it does move"...prayers for Linda...amen
I’ve been listening to this album for about 30 years. It’s my go to happy record it’s great to drive to. Linda is one of the all times greats. Beautiful voice.
At the height of her rock career, she decided she wanted to sing American standards. A great example is "I've got a crush on you": ruclips.net/video/KelraygLn2g/видео.html (music video). Also, "When You wish upon a star": ruclips.net/video/4Qsaf-s395M/видео.html. Her voice is smooth as silk in this genre of music. Later she recorded Mexican songs in honor of her father.
"What's New", the first of her trilogy with Nelson Riddle, went triple platinum. The two following "Lush Life" and "For Sentimental Reasons" both went platinum. Her next album "Canciones de Mi Padre" was certified double platinum I'd say her instincts (and execution of course) were spot-on
She made 3 Standards with Nelson Riddle and then her final solo studio album was her 4th Standards album "Humming to Myself" in 2004...it is a very good "last studio album" to go out on...she did a final duet album with Ann Savoy in 2006 and she has said her voice was basically running on empty doing that last album and then 3 yrs later she did her last performance and retired shortly after...very nasty disease she has it sadly took her voice and her health...prayers for Linda...amen
You need to jump from this right to something completely different but just as good, say "Long Long Time", to really get a feel for Ronstadt's performance range. Like going from a sauna into a cold plunge.
Linda's a powerhouse vocal - this style is very much the "norm" here in Mexico. Mariachi bands are incredible musicians. I have seen 5 out of 7 band members change instruments with each other throughout the performance. Pull up some mariachi videos for your daughter since she loves them. ☺️ Welcome to the wifey. Since you're dipping your toes in the water of legendary females singing songs in Spanish, check out Christina Aguilera, "Contigo en la Distancia" (with you from afar/from the distance).👍
Speaking of other genres, if you haven't already, you should check out her song "What's new". It's more of the big band/orchestra sound and she performs it with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, which was very popular.
One of our great treasures! Heavenly voice, and she even looks like an angle! Hi D. 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Did you know that she is of Mexican descent!?
You should watch the movie "The Sound Of My Voice", it's a Linda documentary, free RUclips movie. It covers everything from her first band the Stone Poneys to her excelling in country, pop. opera, learning to sing in Spanish (her heritage), classic songs. Her attitude when record companies told her You can't do that was I can't NOT do that. I saw her sing before she was famous, singing with the Catalina High School choir from Tucson AZ, she sang 3 solos, and she was awesome!
For some little known Linda Ronstadt check out "Freezing" from the album "Songs From Liquid Days" by composer Phillip Glass. The album was a project he did with multiple artists as song writers and multiple artists as performers. The lyrics were written by folk like Paul Simon, David Byrne, and in the case of the song Freezing by Suzanne Vega. Lyrics by Vega, featuring the world famous Kronos Quartet, with Ronstadt getting operatic, and composed by Glass. Ronstadt also sings on the song "Forgetting", lyrics by Laurie Anderson, the Kronos Quartet again, and a trio of sisters whose band is called "The Roches" on back-up vocals. She was CA Governor Jerry Brown's romance for a while too. We used to have the fantasy of Brown running for President and then we could have Linda Ronstadt as First Lady. Heck, she dated Actor/comedian Jim Carrey and director George Lucas in her time too. Blessings.
I lived in southern AZ for years, La Charreada, is a Mexican roping/riding contest and fiesta. The precursor of the American rodeo, a charreada is a contest consisting of the suertes (events) of charrería (rodeo), the national sport of Mexico. Such suertes as coleadero (downing a bull by twisting its tail) and jaripeo (bull riding). It is a sport and discipline arising from equestrian activities and livestock traditions used in the haciendas of old Mexico. The men in dressed in white represent "vaqueros" (Mex. cowboys), or "charros."
My favorite video of this song is the 1989 Grammy performance mostly because of Billy Crystals introduction, and Bonnie Raittes reaction at the end. Yes miss you have heard many of Linda’s recordings, Blue Bayou, Desperado, Different Drum, duets with Aaron neville, peabo Bryson, Dolly, Marylou,
I didn't understand a word she sang , but , hey, it's Linda Ronstadt , and I would listen to her ANYTIME and ANYWHERE ! Such a beautiful voice , and such a beautiful woman, too. It's a damn shame she lost her voice later on.
Linda did a fundraiser concert for California Gov. Jerry Brown when he was running for President. They were dating at the time and she sang My Boyfriend's Back.
My wife loves her mariachi music, and she loves Lida too. She saw Linda on this tour and raves about how good she was. Go see a good mariachi band. They have the best singers. and the music is amazing also.
My mom and myself saw Linda Ronstadt sing these Mariachi songs in S.F. in 1989. It was an incredible show! After the first note she sang -I believe she opened with "Los Laureles", my mom said: " You're right, she does have a wonderful voice!"
Does your significant other listen to Rancheras? I bought this album when it first came out. My mom thought that her voice was better than the originals. None of us knew she could sing Mexican music like that. You have to react to more of her music on that album. Canciones de me Padre is the name of the album. Meaning Songs of my Father. Tu Solo Tu is one of my favorites.
You have to listen to Linda sing JAZZ. Lush Life. Linda Ronstadt with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra from 1984. Makes the hairs on my neck and arms bristle.
It’s a great tragedy that Linda Ronstadt lost her voice when she developed Parkinson’s disease some years ago. A huge loss. We’re lucky to have recordings and videos of her wonderful performances.
Amazing, I have this CD Canciones de me Padre along with my Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc CDS. I have always loved the versatility in her career, rock, country, blues, jazz and of course this beautiful song book that we are viewing here. She is of Mexican decent. Her father is Mexican-German. She speaks a little Spanish but she's not fluent in it
Great reaction to the great Linda Ronstadt! 11 Grammys to her name. PLEASE PLEASE do another of her Spanish songs live called "La Cigarra" omg it's even better than this as great as it is! I don't know how such a voice can come out of someone! Please! Thanks and take care
I saw her at a little place called The Cellar Door (it was in a cellar) in Washington, D.C. in, I believe, 1968. Her first hit song, "Different Drum" was on the charts and she was with her first band the Stoned Poneys. Believe me, her voice was even more unbelievable live. Especially sitting 30 feet away from her.
I think she did several albums in this style back in the day. Of course she started out doing American pop/rock music and then did American Standards with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. There was a clip of a press conference where a guy from Spanish language media started asking her a question in Spanish and she had to stop him and apologize that she didn't speak the language.

I watched her whole concert on TV but can't remember if it was on PBS or HBO. Linda made many artists in her band famous. Like The Eagles just naming one.
They had to teach her the words phonetically, even though she has Mexican/German heritage, eh never learned to speak much Spanish! She is a master of voice a hero to me in more ways than just music. So sad she can no longer sing or do much of anything due to her illness. I hope she knows people love her for more than her voice. she stood up the record companies and sang and did what the hell she wanted to do and won 10 plus Grammys doing it! She know every genre every style, Hispanic, Opera, Rock, country Pop, Jazz or Big Band. No one can touch her....
This Spanish version of her tribute to her heritage went platinum and was the largest selling Latin music album at its time. She can sing anything. “Faithless Love “ is another live tribute to her voice!
For those young couples...if you have a chance send your kids to learn Mariachi music...is so beautiful and artful. One of many things of our Mexican culture things that we have. Our language...many many dishes...dances...and towns cities and beaches...and of course ... nosotros...su jente hermosa
She is one of the best singers of all time. She does cover many different genres of music, however, I do not believe you have seen Linda rock out yet. Please try “How do I make You”. Linda can Rock out.
So glad you wanted to share this with her... I asked my Mom (a Linda fan as well) to watch you two. You seemed to enjoy watching/listening to her more this time around. What a joy!

Linda Ronstadt singing is beyond magnificent - clear, strong, dynamic, full of loving passion.
Most singers sing what they can.Linda sings whatever she wants.
Y triunfa con todo.
Beleza y voz, todo en ella
Linda can sing Rock, country standards and nearly everything else. She sings achingly beautiful sad love songs.

I watched her whole concert on TV but can't remember if it was on PBS or HBO. Linda made many artists in her band famous. Like The Eagles just naming one.
This and La Cigarra blew my mind 🤯🤯🤯🤯
She was a master of her craft
One word..... Awesome.
Projection was the word you were looking for.
Great reaction (again) good to see your dearest.
Try Linda singing 'Poor wandering one' from the comic opera The pirates of Penzance. You will not be disappointed.
She was only 5 ft 2 in but had the reputation of overflowing an auditorium with her power and control.
Awesome reaction Linda is fabulous you want to check out Joan Baez
They had to teach her the words phonetically, even though she has Mexican/German heritage, eh never learned to speak much Spanish! She is a master of voice a hero to me in more ways than just music. So sad she can no longer sing or do much of anything due to her illness. I hope she knows people love her for more than her voice. she stood up the record companies and sang and did what the hell she wanted to do and won 10 plus Grammys doing it! She know every genre every style, Hispanic, Opera, Rock, country Pop, Jazz or Big Band. No one can touch her....
Mesmerizing.
THE BEST YOU EVER HEARD!!!
This Spanish version of her tribute to her heritage went platinum and was the largest selling Latin music album at its time. She can sing anything. “Faithless Love “ is another live tribute to her voice!
She is Mexican . From Tucson Az. And was faithful to the town. Did concerts built properties and more . Home Girl really !
You have introduced your wife to Dolly and Linda. Next should be Emmylou and then all three together.
Now the two of you should watch Linda's video of When You Wish Upon a Star.
For those young couples...if you have a chance send your kids to learn Mariachi music...is so beautiful and artful. One of many things of our Mexican culture things that we have. Our language...many many dishes...dances...and towns cities and beaches...and of course ... nosotros...su jente hermosa
...youv'e got a lovely wife ,Dude, you should check out "The Stone Ponys", Linda's earlier band..."Different Drum"
She is one of the best singers of all time. She does cover many different genres of music, however, I do not believe you have seen Linda rock out yet. Please try “How do I make You”. Linda can Rock out.
You have to show your wife all of her other styles starting with her duet with Arron Neville!
"Don't Know Much..." marvelous performance by two astonishing singers. They were so perfect together.
So glad you wanted to share this with her... I asked my Mom (a Linda fan as well) to watch you two. You seemed to enjoy watching/listening to her more this time around. What a joy!
