Hey y'all, this is a companion video to my Behind the Scenes of We Love Cold War (watch it here ruclips.net/video/860bxSSX8PI/видео.html ) since this was the stuff I was working on in my last 2 years of college. I was debating whether or not to post this stuff, but figured I'd just compile them into a quick retrospective and dump them on my channel for archival reasons =p I'll write up a quick retrospective essay but: On the Marne! was basically a complete de-construction of my previous attempts to make a more serious and grounded WW1 "anime" as silly as that may seem, because I wanted to create a really overly ambitious melodrama set during WW1 with these characters you see at the end, but ultimately I decided to forgo taking the era more seriously because almost every piece of WW1 media feels the need to (with the exception of Blackadder). I was inspired by shows like Danger 5 which were set during WW2 but complete parodies of the genre itself and I decided so here, logically, goofy spy chase animation with a British officer chasing a German was more fun =p, but ultimately it was still something very "weird" and oddball for this niche, so it was changed to a setting that was more immediately palatable as "spy vs spy", hence Cold War. The character designs were largely ported over and the car chase remained the core of the short and the rest was all history.
(Translated from Google, sorry) The United States and the Russian Empire were allies in the Entente against Germany and other central powers. It's strange that Valeria's ancestor is Germany, and Naomi's is the French Republic.
1:38 That is amazing detail you put in the teacup shooting where she shoots with the middle. 2:22 Another that breaking action on the Webley. Old stuff but gold stuff
You are a big inspiration to me. I have the same love in history and animation, and I just want you to know that your Cold War video and this Great War archives video tingles my specific love of history and animation/art, even despite the fact I get a little bullied over my love of history and despite how niche it is. Please upload more of your content- I think we all here can say it's amazing. Have a great day
Duuuuuuuuuuude, it would be so awesome if you finished it. Also knowing how much detail you put into the story itself (like the citroen without a wheel in WLCW) it would be wonderful.
I had recently in my autistic thinkings had thought, "What if there was a World War One anime or just some sort of anime about history. That was more gritty and such like how the Great War was." Considering my mind comes up with having an alternate world anime where Rhode Island is the dominant power in the world, that is the least tame of my random ideas. I clicked on this video out of curiosity and mainly because as of writing this I'm on a World War One watching spree mainly about Sweden. So I checked this out and low and behold I witness peak from this channel once again. While I'm here, and also because, procrastination is fun and excuses for not doing things is like alcohol. I'd like to explain the plot and basic story of an anime taking place in an alternate where I call "The Rhode Island Empire Timeline." "Quick" history, Rhode Island was the first to declare independence from the United Kingdom however we're the last to sign the constitution in 1790. So this alternate history scenario devises on Rhode Island becoming it's own nation. Rhode Island doesn't sign the constitution but becomes an independent nation. Though the United States would have the goal to conquer Rhode Island this would never happen. The War of 1812 then happens because, well for almost the same exact reasons. Rhode Island in a bid to keep independence from the growing United States threat joins the war on the side of... no one they decide to remain neutral though they secretly send aid to the British similar to how the British sent supplies to the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The war still ends up coming up with nothing and properly ending after the Battle of New Orleans. In our timeline the Dorr Rebellion would take place in Rhode Island, and it still does. However with a new goal, to unify with the United States. The Dorr Rebellion while it is barely even mentioned in U.S. history and not mentioned or even known by most Rhode Islanders. Would become a legendary rebellion. With the Dorr side of the United States and Dorr's Rebel Forces versus Rhode Island and... France as well as the United Kingdom? Look I originally promised this would be quick and we haven't even got to the plot of the actual story and yet this is just the history/lore. So, yeah. No European stuff, I'm leaving it out. In short terms the Dorr Rebellion more commonly known as in this universe the Rhode Island War would see Rhode Island win thanks to an early civil war happening between the south and the north. Though the civil war in this history is considered separate, anyways. Rhode Island ends up gaining most of New England, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, and Michigan. The British gain Oregon, Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and northern Maine. Meanwhile the French gain... nothing from the war despite their help. The Confederacy also ends up gaining almost all the territory it had during the Civil War plus Oklahoma and the region of the four corner states. The United States is left in shambles and rebellions soon begin for independence. The next few wars with the United States are from Mexico looking to reclaim land, so that's not important for now. Now that we are done with this totally quick history of this timeline that I've mostly written from the top of my head. It's time for the actual plot of the anime I'm going to call "The Soldier of Rhode Island." The anime takes place in the early to mid 1910's and follows this boy we'll just call... uhm, John. Look I put most my points into being able to write alternate history when I was born not into writing anime plots. The first episode pans to 1901 when John was 6 and shows his innocence as a child, by the end of the episode we come to see John in a barrack with white clothing. Episode two we learn that John has become a very different person and has joined the military. It is 1913 and we will soon see this universes version of the Great War begin. However no one knows this yet, not even the viewer. We see John training and learning how to use firearms. Then, que episode 3 where John is seen in the military being, well, your average 18 year old soldier. However they get news that they are needed for an announcement. The company John is in is being taken south from a threat of invasion by Mexico, at the time the Mexican Empire. By this time, we get a short history of Rhode Island expansion since we left off in my "short" summary of the history starting in 1870. Rhode Island with newfound might decides to take it out on the United States by invading them, looking for complete domination over the continent. With U.S. morale low and with Mexico joining in they surrender in 1875. Mexico gains California and Nevada. While Rhode Island takes the rest of what is left of the United States. In recent years however Mexico and Rhode Island have not been as friendly as they once we're. So now John and his company are being sent to the border to protect it from potential invasion, the episode mostly being filler of their trip to the fort they we're meant to stay at. Episode 4 is mainly a slice of life episode, with all the troops mostly having fun. Episode 5 cuts to 1914 and World War One has begun in Europe. It soon reaches worldwide as Mexico joins the side of the Central Powers (Just going to keep the names mostly the same for allied sides.) along with the Confederacy. On the Entente in the America's is Rhode Island and British held land in the continent. Mexican troops charge at the fort John is located at and we see the brutal fighting on the inside of the fort. Gunfire being exchanged and bayonets clashing with enemy bayonets. We finally see what the anime is really going to be as John on what is basically the first day loses almost all his comrades and friends he had made in the past year. Soon Mexican forces are driven out of the fort and they besiege it. Episode 6 shows the brutal life of living in the fort as food slowly runs dry and the sounds of artillery hitting the fort ring out throughout almost the whole entire episode. Episode 7 there is another assault on the fort however it is pushed back by machine gun fire and troops even manage to start and unordered counterattack pushing the Mexican-Confederate force back. Episode 8 and the fort is finally relived by Rhode Island forces and soon Mexico is pushed back and John joins the frontlines finally. Episode 9 shows John's first trench charge. The charge begins as John runs through a hail of machine gun fire and artillery. Similar to episode 5 only this time in a trench. The charge is successful and now we see a count of how many are lost from each battle John takes part in. The death total: 330,000. Episode 10 we see a timelapse of more battles John had took part in with the death toll appearing on each of them, from 100,000 to almost 900,000. It is now 1916 and the war has taken a toll on John we see him asleep in his trench before being woken up by a man yelling for people to get up since there was an advancing force. Basically the scene is almost similar to how the appearance of the tanks in AQOTWF is shown. The whole episode is really just an AQOTWF reference to the tank scene and the battle taking place a bit after. Wow, this, turned into a very long comment. Probably the longest comment I've made that wasn't spam. Reminder I wrote all of this from stuff that came up off the top of my mind, hence why some things may not align with the time period in the history section. If you somehow read all of this, applause to you. I see how this comment can be seen as unrelated to the video, and like 90% of it is. I ain't going to sugar coat it. But just know, that, uhm... sharing your creativity with the world is decently hard to do. For me at least. Goodbye mates.
There is one called something akin to issak that is exactly similar to your description actually a few years earlier of course theres golden kamui that takes place around the same time but thats main stream there are lots of tank series in ww1 hundreds actually
I would give my firstborn for a Mexican channel like this to make content like this about the defense of Tenochtitlán, the independence war, the war against America (Naomi’s ancestors), the revolution and so on.
OH HEY! i actually had a stint reading early first world war plans and the first few minutes are all accurate to a T! I love it! Wish i could give you money to actually get this animated fully~ Also Edit: I thought the first few minutes are gonna be about the Taxi de la Marne but a spy chase a la Princess Principal is amazing as well!
Despite my..expectations in shortcomings, this was actually very well done. I love it a lot. The storyline is engaging, but still lighthearted, and enjoyable. The project should have definitely been expanded, and it would have been interesting to see where the storyline would go next. I have a few qualms about the video, though. I - The Spy..why would they wear German Uniform underneath their civilian clothing? Seems a bit much, and it would have given away your cover, which is valuable, especially at your position, having access to the Parisian, and French HICOM, which it did.
An anime or even simply an animated series set in the first world war would be phenomenal, so much to do here... What concernes the eastern (Russian) and Caucasian fronts in this universe? *3:01* Also, I honestly felt really bad for the guy who just woke up and got brutally impailed with a bayonette.
