The designs are really good in this one, like their "original" look really feel like mascots you could see in a park. And damn that racoon is cute, I hope they will not make a twist like "oh it's actually evil" because I like the idea of having one benevolent mascot among the rest who really want to fix everything.

You know what I'm honestly hoping? That there really is no big "twist". That Rambley really is on the up and up and genuinely wants to help you, and the mascot creatures really were a good-hearted and genuine attempt to make something special for people of all ages but it just backfired spectacularly like Jurassic Park. Like, none of the "the park was built for evil" this or "mad scientist using remnant to resurrect people" that. Though, one thing I'd love, is if Rambley could become more corrupted, and more evil, if you did the wrong things or failed to preserve parts of his server, so there's a good ending where he stays normal and a bad ending where he becomes evil: if you're working to save the park, it makes sense that you should also have to save the one thing in the park that's still good.

Something that *Does not* get talked about enough is how well Molly's spooks are set up.
The first time you can catch a glance of her is in the small tunnel where Rambley says his "Cause I like trains." line. But it's only her feathers, It's only for a second and it's completely silent.
The second time is in her own introduction in the train ride, Off in the corner. But you'll be more distracted by Rambley and Molly's conversation that it's likely you'll miss it, Or only just catch her slinking away out the corner of your eye.
Then there's the moment you hear her just after Finley's segment. A small whisper of "Closed for repairs." You might miss it if you're talking with friends or chat. But if it's quiet, It's a creepy moment that tells you that you aren't alone.
Then there's the one everyone misses, Between Rambley and Lloyd having their ex-lovers spat, You'll completely miss that, If you turn around as Rambley says "Great act Lloyd..." You'll see her *RIGHT BEHIND YOU.* Peeking out of the curtained window right beside you. This is the closest she gets to you bar her jump-scare. Yet you'll miss her because that's not where your attention's being drawn to. It's genius!
Then there's the photo of her on the screen. This is the first sign of her that you might pick up on if you look at the pictures for a second. But you still might not realise what it is.
Then there's the spook in the theatre, The spot you'll (/You're supposed to) get a good look at her for the first time. Even if you don't see her as she pokes her head in behind you, You'll defiantly see her as you go to leave. This is the first time her appearance is announced with an overt noise cue. As opposed to the much easier to miss noises of a door shutting.
Then you got the multiple times she stalks in the landing pad. With the first one being as she walks past you and up the stairs. If you (Somehow) miss all her earlier appearances, This is the moment you'll see her front and centre, Impossible to miss.
All leading up to the final chase. Where as you walk towards the closed gates, You see her in all her glory. The monster's been revealed. Now *RUN.*
It's a slow build up, Making her appearances harder and harder to miss, Until eventually she can be seen in full, Stalking you through the landing pad. Before finally attacking you not long after. It genius set-up, Not constantly playing stingers or having it be exactly where you'll be looking, Not at first. It's a slow build that makes replaying and seeing all the times she's there even better. Kudos to Uniquegeese for a masterclass of build-up.

yesssss thank you! the first time i noticed her was in the photos after the train ride, and the way i flipped after realizing what i was looking at made the game immediately memorable. combine that with the other glimpses we see of her and how realistically animated she is.. it’s so unnerving to see for the first time, and makes the final chase feel like a natural conclusion to what we’ve been seeing of her so far.

i think my favorite spooky bit in this game is during lloyd's bit of the railroad where if you look opposite to lloyd's stage you can literally see molly clear as day watching you dangerously close but doing nothing besides observing
at literally ANY moment she could just pounce you instantly and kill you right then and there but she just sits there watching and that makes initial playthroughs even creepier to look back on cuz molly was literally breathing down your neck the entire time and you had no idea, greatly amplified by the fact you very likely wouldn't bother looking there during your first run since she's juuuust out of view and every part of the ride besides the character environments so far have just been black voids

    • @abysswalker1282
      @abysswalker1282 3 месяца назад +11

If i'm not mistaken, right at the end of the Railroad ride, one the screens at the memory photo stand even shows Mollie literally running after the train, even more confirming the fact that she was pretty much stalking you from the moment you hopped on the ride.

You know the big thing that sets this game apart from other "mascot horror" games, which I noticed almost right away? Indigo Park feels very much like a real place, and the mascots actually feel like real mascot characters you'd actually have in a Disney-style franchise. Even the arcade feels like a real arcade game that could exist in a place like that. A lot of this genre of game fails to make the mascots seem real, like Garten of Banban doesn't feel like a real place but a place structured to explore and generate scares, and the mascots feel like they were designed to be in a horror game with their "mascotness" as an afterthought. I would absolutely go to Indigo Park if it was a real place, and I as a kid would have loved watching cartoons about Rambley and Pals, but I even as an adult wouldn't go within a million miles of the weird factory that's allegedly a kindergarten in Garten of Banban. What I especially love about this game, is they actually let you meet the innocent and non-corrupted versions of these characters before introducing you to the horrific corrupted versions, because that's what this genre is supposed to be: something innocent and child-friendly corrupted into something monstrous.

    • @cartooncritique6625
      @cartooncritique6625 3 месяца назад +18

Very true. This game gives you the necessary contrast to show how far the once beloved icons of childhood have fallen into nightmarish versions of their former selves which not only gives you a sense of horror, but also a feeling of loss and tragedy, something nearly every other mascot horror game fails to provide. The only one that somewhat comes close is actually Poppy Playtime, and even then that only really applies to the latest chapter.

while that's a good thing to strive for, I hope that doesn't mean a cut back in interactions with them. Indigo Park was so refreshing because of how nice the writing is. it's charming and funny and I feel like that's greatly missing in "Mascot Horror". I hate to do the whole "compliment by knocking someone else down" but BanBan and Poppy's attempts at writing really leave A LOT to be desired. I didn't expect to go into this game laughing WITH the game as much as I did. It has plenty of genuinely great gags and jokes.

I used to work third shift at the Disney parks. It is very obvious to me just how much research and inspiration the creators took from Disneyland when designing their park right down to Indigo's welcome speech beat for beat being very similar to Walts welcome speech you can find on the plaque on the statue at the end of Main st. It actually brought back fond memories of still, dark quiet nights cleaning the parks. They did a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere of a theme park at night.

So, I got the Lloyd jump scare, hit F, thought I got killed, and wondered where the game over screen was, or at least a loading screen if that was supposed to be a transition. Took me at least ten seconds to realize I was still there and just had to turn my light back on.

I'm genuinely so charmed by Rambley-- you mentioning the song reminding you of Portal might be why, though, since... Well, my portal hyperfixation is my comfort zone.
I love the way he's animated! The trailing visual effects on the old monitors, the slightly stilted motion? It's so good. And then you add on that the team made sure to note he has nothing to do with generative AI, just to make sure their stance was known? Priceless.
I've not actually played it (I'm a coward who gets scared by any small jumpscare there is, even though I love knowing about horror) but I really do like it, and just like you, I'm excited to see what comes next!
Nice vid, Ben. It's been awesome seeing your channel grow since when I saw your Reincarnated video for the first time, and ever since it's been a wonderful time. (And being around the same age makes me feel a little bit old, lol)

For me, Molly’s death is really well done because it’s the first showcase of mass blood and gore. Think about how the game was like before this point, little to no blood in sight up until Molly’s chase.
When Rambly Closes the door, you’d think she would just get closed off. but she doesn’t, she instead jumps forward and gets her head chopped clean off.
That, in-turn, catches players off guard because, until now, there wasn’t any room or area that had heavy amounts of blood or subtle gore.
Someone also said that in recent mascot horror games, they tend to lack graphic blood or gore for kids, so having a scene like THAT makes me excited because that means that we’ll probably get to see more blood or we’ll get to see more darker themes/scenes in later chapters.
It can also add some ideas, since there isn’t any blood seen around the park, could that mean that there isn’t any blood in the park? Or will that only be in certain areas/locations.

The designs are really good as well as a lot of other aspects such as the lighting, voice acting, and setting and I really like Rambley as a companion however I do wonder how he will be handled going forward both as a character and as a mechanic.
Also I like how Mollie Macaw was introduced and set up rather than just throwing a monster in. There was a lot of buildup. The first time you can even get a quick look of her is the scene where Rambley says his "Cause I like trains". But it's only her feathers and no music sting plays, its something you could miss. Most of her moments are like this, aside from her actually whispering "closed for repairs" but she is always somewhere around you and when you do catch her in the corner of your eye it makes it more eerie. Aside from a few times she actively stalks you she is incredibly easy to miss.
Uniquegeese didn't have to rely on throwing things at you, forcing a jumpscare, or playing loud music or a sound. They went the horror movie route of a slow buildup.
There's a lot of potential in the game. I'm interested in where it goes later.

It's basically just like any typical mascot horror game, but the mascot is actually adorable and likable and carries the entire game so far. Rambley is the only thing I see people talk about, which isn't exactly a good thing when the only thing you see people discussing is just one character from a game and not, yknow, the gameplay of the game.
Abandoned place, flashlight and gimmick(assuming the wristband will be given more abilities later on), monster of the chapter, puzzles, jumpscares, eh it's as generic as you can get, except now there's some good art and animation at least.
Has potential, but I don't think I'll be keeping up with it, but maybe others will enjoy it.

I was going to compliment how the footage of you reacting to the game were really great in this video, then I got to the bit with you guys stopping mid game and making airplane noises and realized that was actually one of the most delightful reactions to a horror game I've seen. kudos for making me laugh
Also I really enjoyed the shorter video. Normally I'm all for multi-hour reviews or essays but this was just the pick-me-up i needed on a busy day

The part with the ball pit and spring board, my interpretation is that the fade to black isn't you dying, it is just a transition that cuts out your character making their way back up.

I wish I could join a chill dev team like this... I self taught hard surface modelling and texturing for modding but never went beyond that. I tried to join a few teams but it was never ending idea guys with no real imput. I wanted to learn to code as well but then my work life got busy. Would be great to just chill and make games on a weekend.

Indigo Park has issues I do hope get fixed in the future, but knowing Chapter 1 was unfunded outside of what Mason had already made while Chapter 2 already made over the requested amount on Kickstarter gives me hope that they’ll be able to make an absolutely amazing Chapter 2.

Honestly, my only fear with Indigo Park is that the dev's limited game-making experience will make it hard to escalate too far beyond what we see in Chapter 1 from a gameplay standpoint. I don't doubt that Rambley will continue to be well-written, voiced, and animated, and that will be enough to keep my interest. I just hope it doesn't stagnate, y'know?
I think one thing I like about the mascot designs is that since we see the illustrated characters first and foremost, it's easy to tell how they could be very popular and beloved before the creepy living mascots caused the Park's ruin.
Sometimes when it comes to horror mascots, they try to go for uncanny valley but end up with something that just looks regular creepy, like something that could never get on a shelf in the first place. That's definitely how I always felt about Huggy Wuggy.
Also, I think the thing that endears me to Rambley aside from his cuteness is just the fact that he's willing to level with you. Even though he's operating on a very different wavelength as an A.I. built to prioritize the park above all else, he still feels like a _person._ And while I don't expect him to "turn evil", I wonder if we might start to see some more abrasive or uncomfortable sides of him as he keeps glitching and the danger mounts up.
My main design issue is the trampolines' angle. If angled trampolines indicated you were supposed to turn and flat trampolines meant you had to go straight forward, that'd be a lot more consistent and intuitive, right?

Some parts are janky, but this was a free game by a very small team without much budget! Not to mention learning unreal engine while making the game.
It just makes me more hyped for chapter 2!
If this is what they can do with money out of Mason’s own pocket, imagine what they can do now that they’ve raised over $275k on kickstarter plus his (probably small) cut of the $400k ish of makeship sales. I’m excited for more Rambley.

It’s a series of atmospheric and creepy puzzle games that started on IOS before being ported to PC. Theres about 5 now with the 5th being a vr game. I feel like it’d make a good video talking about it and its lore, especially since i haven’t seen anyone else talking about it

I've seen a lot of people upset over the ball pit stuff, and it's a mixed bag for me personally. If you pay attention, that area links up to nothing, so they'd have to design and make rooms to connect things just for a "Oops I fell down, time to climb back up" while teaching you how to use the trampoline. While it's brain dead easy to pick up how to use that thing right, I guarantee you you'd have more people failing it and getting annoyed that they now have to keep climbing out of a pit. Plus this sorta teaches you for later that during the chase, you don't want to miss your jumps? Idk.
I'm happy to see a much more mindful review of the game, pointing out flaws and little issues. You wouldn't believe some of the god awful takes I've heard. Someone even called this game a content farm for the youtuber that made it. 💀

I really loved Indigo Park. As you sayed some animation and stuff could be more polishes. But in tjat fact you can't ignore that the whole game was made by unigneGeese himself.(just talking about the gamplay and mechanic not rambley aniantion) and for that it was pretty good. As he said also in a Stream he want to get more helpers and friends to help on chapter 2.
He also said that he don't want to make any cashgrab games like Gartennof banabn. (He created one plushy but after get many Question about merch from the community he made it). I really like the game. I like your rewie. Have a great day❤

Although I found the horror pretty weak, (there are a bit too many in-your-face jumpscares from the theater and onward that all feel pretty slow and weightless, and I just don't find the mascots to be very frightening themselves,) and the gameplay bog-standard for mascot horror, I'm still having a lot of fun with the game so far! The sheer level of dedication to making Indigo Park seem like a real, believable theme park, and the charm exuding from both Rambly and the park made simple stuff like progressing to new areas and exploring for collectables really fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs have in store for future chapters!

Another content creator pointed out that the area is generally very empty. It feels like some rooms are only made for collectibles.

I loved the park’s design, and the animation on rambley was top notch. But I’m super disappointed in the actual monster/mascots. With how polished the 2D designs are, and how well modelled and realistic the environment is, the 3D models of the monsters just. Doesn’t stand up. They’re not memorable or attractive, or even scary. The physics on the Llyod’s mane is terrible, it constantly clips into each other and moves like it’s underwater. The final chase scene is scary because it’s a chase, not because it’s actually scary. The unnatural feel of the monsters in Poppy’s playtime did an excellent job of being cute and unsettling, but honestly, I haven’t seen a single person inspecting or paying ANY attention to the models, which, in a mascot horror, should be the FIRST thing people do.
