While charging the load on those small connectors is close to the limit. Hence it would be better connecting both GND and both Power pins (mirrored left and right) as the load would be distributed on two pins each.
So if you look at the board, the middle two pins go to vias through the board. I'm guessing there is a resistor on the other side of the board that those go to. This is important for the USB-C port, as it is the way the device communicates that it is capable of other charge speeds and voltages. So as assembled, I believe you'll only be able to do 5v charging at the 'slow' speed with any chargers that limit the speed.
Yes, I thought the same. I have an ipad with a mangled usb-c charger and it will only charge using an USB-A to C connector (and slow!). Will it even charge using a USB-C charger if there is no negotiation?
@@jvs768 Maybe. Proper USBC PD chargers, probably not. Other USBC chargers probably. Depends upon what the designers of the USBC charger decided to do. Many products out there that don't have the correct sense resistors so won't charge from a PD compliant charger. Rossmann covered it in one of his videos a couple years back. Notably, the I think it was the first run of the Raspberry Pi4 missed them so they only worked with the Raspberry Pi Official USBC power supplies as they don't check.
yes but if you look at the charger he used the amps were over 1 amp, this speaker is capable of doing up to 3 amps and the speed it was going at isn't too bad just might take a little longer to charge but at least he got it to work.
@@1234mattyman it looks like that charger adapter doesn't follow the spec and limit to USBA slow speeds without a resistor. So certain chargers that follow the spec will limit to 500ma. Also, if it is usb c, it could possibly handle 12v(particularly with the 7.4v battery!), which it won't be able to negotiate, so it is stuck on 5v.
Saturday night, a few beers in me, feeling mellow and Steve fixes another bluetooth speaker. Who could ask for more ? Nice one Steve, keep them coming 😊
Love that you’ve added the countdown / 8ootcdc music to your solder mask timer.. a nice touch… Honestly when you showed the gif of the good doctor I thought that meant by the end of the video we were going to see some cooked chips.. 😂
I've got the original t6 not the plus version and it sounds amazing and so clear with tones of bass and just gets the job done plus it really is 40ws and gets extremely loud for its size. you can also pair two of them together and have stereo output. this speaker is absolutely amazing. great video as always. don't forget that you can use Micro-SD cards in it as well loaded with tones of your favourite tunes .
Thought you would have connected both grounds and both +ve? If you plug the USB-c in there's a 50/50 chance it'll be round the wrong way ? If that's how it works, dunno
It's somewhat common on these 6pin ports for them to be internally bridged so may not be an issue. Current handling could be an issue but it looks to be rated for at least 3A which I'd assume is plenty for a device like this.
Steve, cheers bonny lad for the hilarity and honesty you show with your videos. By the way, I love the way you give us the chance to bypass the 💩 parts at the beginning. Classic 👍😁🤣🤣
Can't tell you how much I have learned from you! Many items in our home has had a second chance because of it! Have my own hot air system, soldering station and an abundance of wiring implicates! Would love to be a fly on your wall for your videos!
I report that today I repaired a VCR. 2 belts needed replacement but 1 of them was hidden so deep I had to take apart a huge chunk of the device and figure out why winding and eject doesn't work properly still. Turns out the tray wasn't lowering enough so I had to fiddle with the gears a little, now it works like a charm :) Fixing stuff is awesome! Update: nah, it's not fixed, it's taking and ejecting the tape fine, winding and playing works on a mechanical level, but the tape goes soo slow for some reason... I need to figure it out later but I spent the whole day tinkering with it, I put it away for now.
Hey Steve, love your channel! You crack me up. You've also inspired me to start working on small electronics. I have loads of soldering experience from building FPV quads. I was just curious where did you find misc HDMI ports? I cannot find them anywhere. I found some mini HDMI 10 packs and some for PS4 and 5. I was looking for a mix of them like the usb c ports.
Hahaha OMG, you had my missus cringing with the funky 80's music already, then I pre guessed the battery not plugged in. but the "I want one, by that I mean, stupid speaker" made me chortle out loud, then you finally capped it all off with the cover at the end! Hats off to the edumacated USB swap and fix :)
PM Dawn came on the radio a couple of days ago (Set A Drift On Memory Bliss), and it sounded identical to one of your musical creations. I just p****d myself laughing, legend. Keep the content going, brill.
Good fix. I just want to point out one thing: Devices that is charging via USB-C generally needs to have 5k1 ohm pull down resistors on CC1 and CC2 to identify its self on the upstream device. There is a chance the manufacturer didn't bother putting in those resistors or maybe thats what the middle pinsgo to via the vias (5:48), although I doubt that (probably data). But if you are having trouble charging the device with a usb-c to usb-c cable then the missing resistors might be the reason. Then again Raspberry foundation managed to leave out one of the resistors on one of their Pi (3?) and that device still worked with *most* chargers
Steve... newb!!! *points and laughs* 🤣 Also, that background music had some strong Rob Hubbard vibes about it... it really reminded me of IK+ (if anyone is old enough to remember that...)
I have watched 95% of your videos and I do suffer the cringe-worthy rap each time - just to see how you get the current broken gizmo apart. Am I that one and only sad person to do so? Loved the usb bodge in this one. Respect.
Hello Stez, l am having an issue with my marshal emberton . It doesn’t turn on . when put on charging an indicator lights up only and the button doesn’t respond . I checked the battery with multimeter and the battery is good. What might have cause such issue ? Thank you .
I bought one of these on ebay after watching this video. The sound seems overblown and the top range is almost mute. I believe Steve when he says it sounds good. So, could this be a repairable issue with the one I've got? Anyone have any idea where I would start?
Dankpods has just released a video that included a speaker the same as your red one , the only differences are his was blue and it wasn't Beats branded.
Im wondering where do you go to get your parts? Is there and "amazon of electronics"? Im looking for a ribbon cable 6pin "E248682 RJ AWM 2896 80C 30V VW-1" but cant find a decent place to buy (in Canada). Secondly - does it matter if its 30 pin, 12 pin etc - could I cut it to size? Just hoping for some advice.
A thought went through my head just the instant he said he's going to put it back together: "Don't forget to connect the battery, Steve!". Lolsome moment.
5V in and 7.2-8.4V out is possible as long as the internal motherboard has a multicells charging handler. I guess you'd find 2 18650 in series. Both cells are charged evenly at 4.2+V until both are balanced.
Hay Steve don’t nock your self it can happen to the best of us and hay we all had good laugh 😂 so don’t forget to reconnect the battery 👍 and you fixed it well done 😊
New subbie here! I have been on RUclips for over a decade, and I keep running into videos from people who have been on for years also, but I have not "run across" on RUclips. Peace from SAM the skipper.
"I might regret it, but I'm going to give it a go" is why I love this channel, together with how rare it is for regret to happen.
At this point, I think Steve has a bluetooth speaker for ever corner of every room of his house.
full surround sound stereo

Came here to say this…
I literally laughed harder than I needed to when he said he didn't connect the battery.
heh, me too! I wonder why we laughed so hard.
i laughed but also really felt bad for him, he had to remove the panel and glue it back again for the stupid connector :(
Forgetting the battery connection and owning it is why I love this channel.
“I want one” - I think you have one? Love it.

I keep watching your old videos 😅 see you're getting so much better than before you're amazing talanted person
You really are a brilliant entertainer. i’m old enough to remember the countdown music from the old English quiz show

I’ve recently subscribed & generally binge watched most vids. Not a gamer or a tech person, just like your sense of humour 👍🏻
Genius fix, very creative, love your videos and variety of stuff you work on
Such a clever solution, steve, greetings from México 👍
Well done darling. Again you turn up in your work. Pain and Joy. To borrow the words of Otto, “Let him go Ralph, he knows what he’s doing”
Good stuff! Nobody will ever know! So many kinds of ports. It’s so dumb
I guessed it was the battery before you got to the realisation! Keep up the good work!
So is the USB C port still reversible hooked up like that? It looked like the ground and power were mirrored on both sides of the connector
