FANTASTIC video. Probably one of the most informative and simple to understand. I like how you covered every aspect todo it right (all the way down to the expanding foam for air draft)
Thank God for the new plug in models 😅. Makes it so much simpler
Diffenatly not a hack job! Love the little details that actually matters! Great job!👍
10/10 video, so informative! This should be the gold standard example on ‘how to’ videos should be made
This is a very well done video. I appreciate you being so thorough in your explanations.
This has to be one of the BEST instructional videos out there. You have a great methodical way of explaining everything in detail. Thanks to this video, I installed my camera above my garage yesterday. Thank you. Keep your videos coming.
Before applying the fire block foam put painters tape around the 2 gang box as a mask then remove after you spray the the foam and it's nice and clean.
Excellent video, very thorough in every aspect. Thank you for sharing.
Retro Fit Power Outlet to Work with the Ring Outdoor Spotlight Wired Camera - The Right Way...!
Thank You....! You Rock... !!!
Very professional install
Perfect! This is exactly what I needed to see!
Thanks 😊 A Bunch
Excellent video! Thank you!
My electrician recessed the electrical box in stucco over the garage. He used a hole saw that was for wood or drywall not for stucco and it worked just fine. Floodlight camera gets power from the outlet on the ceiling the garage door opener plugs into.
I don’t comment a lot but for sure that last warning you gave about the outlet being your responsibility forever shouldve been said at the beginning of the video lol I will hire an electrician sir. Thank you!
This guy: I have a lamp next to it, maybe I can use thar connector nahhh let me make a mess instead 😅😂
Great video, thank you!
Nice work!
Excellent 👍
This is a well made video. Thanks
Very complete video. In some states a switch is required for outdoor lights.
what section of the nec covers this???
Excellent video tutorial. Very through work and attention to details ( learned new electrical parts that I never seen before). I learned from SparkyChannel electrician Bill that after wire-nut I put electrical tape around it to prevent from any insects or weather elements.
I've watched a couple dozen of Sparky's videos. I love his style.
Subbed because its just an awesome precise and concise video... thank you for sharing your knowledge sir! God Bless!
Looked your video. I have subscribed. I plan to add an exterior flood security lights I just bought at Costco. I do not have existing lights or wire. Hope it goes well for me.
Are there any other precautions that should be taken for a vapor barrier?
An electrician won't staple the romex because it isn't required/nor code for old/finished work situations. Check out 334.30(B) of the NEC
great video very well explained, but i would’ve left the original outlet intact and made a wire connection in the new box you added , i would’ve never used a gfci if it trips by accident you got no cameras
Where did you buy that camara ? Could you send me the link please
All the links are in the description. That particular model (cam mount) is currently sold out. It appears the cam wired is also sold out. If you can get your hands on one, and the mount is still unavailable, you can use the hardwire kit to convert it. www.amazon.com/Hardwired-Kit-Ring-Spotlight-Wired/dp/B088WH57YH I know that doesn't help you right now, so sorry.
Why would you run UF through your wall cavity? No bueno. Other than that bit of homeowner hack nice work.
Thanks for the vid.. At 21:30 you were using a wire nut that has no end.. Sounds like you cleed them a "greedy" is that correct?
Nevemind, I found them in your details.. Thank you for being Sooo thorough
Hi - what you have done to avoid pushing the insulation down if it wasnt pushed? Is there a way to fish the cable without harming insulation? I am in a cold weather climate area. Insulation is critical and thus I do not want to mess it up.
My original plan was to cut a slot through the insulation all the way to the drywall and then fish it down with a magnepull. There was already a hole running down the wall, so I used that.
@@distractor_beamreviews Ahh ok. Thanks
A slight problem with hardwiring a mains powered external camera into your house ring main is IF for what ever reason the camera or connections outside do get damp or corroded its likely to trip your circuit breaker and knock out the ring main on the whole of the ground floor. It would have been better to have run the cable and fitted a plug on the end that would then permanently plug into the socket. if you then got a power trip you could unplug the outside camera making diagnostics easier. just my tuppence worth :)
Doesn’t the GFCI plug address this?
@@brandong2142 it would if he had brought the cable through to the front of the socket and then put a fused plug on the camera cable. What he has done is hard wire it into the ring main at the back. its not something I would do for the reasons in my first comment.
@@insertnamehere5146 I understand now. Thank you
Great work, did you locate the stud before you screwed the round metal box in? If so, how did you do so? TYIA
I screwed it to the osb behind the stucco. No stud required.
@@Distractor_Beam Thank you for the reply, you referenced "wood behind the stucco" @ 15:43 EDIT: I just doubled check OSB, I understand now, thanks again, I learned something new :)
Why use a level on a round box?

Man, everything was professional done till you got to that spray foam, lol. Excellent tutorial though and great idea on putting a switch next to the outlet
What else would you use in that case to block draft?
I see you have an extra red wire on the camera mount unit and you just cap off. I have an extra red wire on the wall instead, do I also just cap off just like you? It's weird my Ring Floodlight didn't come with a red wire
The red wire on my Ring is to control other lights. You can run wire to extra lights so they'll turn on whenever the Ring detects motion. I'm not sure what your red wire is. My guess is the device that was there previously had a similar motion control system. If that's the case, you can cap it off and there'll be no issue.
Nice work!
