The Lighthouse film of 2019 was said to be based upon a short story by edgar allan poe. But I'm sure they came upon this true story while writing the script.
Actually, it's partly based on Poe's unfinished "The Light-House" and the horrific story of the Smalls Lighthouse incident. www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/smalls-lighthouse-pembrokeshire-wales-coast-18033286 The Smalls Lighthouse is the iconic structure that, at high tide, is almost completely engulfed in the waves (now automated). What happened there in 1801 is also the reason there were three keepers, not two at Eilean Mor. Not that I'm a fan of lighthouse history or anything.
Unusually large sets of waves, or "rogue waves" that seem to appear out of nowhere, are a fact. The men were washed off the cliff face. That is the only way these three men disappeared. I live in South Australia, the waters around the south east of the state and around Kangaroo Island are some of the most dangerous in Australia. We have rogue waves appearing, causing loss of life, with no trace of boats or personnel found.
Definitely. There was a documentary series here in Ireland a few years ago about lighthouses, and one of the keepers spoke about a storm where the waves knocked concrete caps off walls and tossed them into nearby fields like pebbles. Not a million miles from the Flannan Isles, and subject to similar conditions. Even here on the east coast of Ireland where the seas are calmer I've seen steel frames (used to hold rubbish bins) being pulled out of the concrete and thrown about like matchsticks by spring tides during winter storms. And that's before you even factor rogue waves into it
@@ikaikamaleko8370 Frightening when you think about it. And there's no time to do anything, as you wouldn't know until it was too late. I have a book on Krakatau and the total destruction of the surrounding coast due to the four tsunamis. An elderly harbor master happened to be at his home looking out to sea, when in the very poor light, he could see a huge black shaddow looming. He quickly recognised what it was and climbed a tree to escape the wave. He just made it.
@@channelsixtysix066 yes i watched a special on that. That was a mega tsunami, went all the way up the mtn in that island, imagine seeing that with your own eyes. Reasons I fear the ocean sometimes: waves can do, uh, that. Lake Superior, not too too far from where I live (a day’s drive north or so) is just as dangerous, with ice cold waves routinely scaling cliff faces, and it’s home of the infamous sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. So yeah, water is nice a LOT of the time, but when it’s rough, it’s relentless. While very likely not an alien abduction or horrific monster story, the likely truth on this one is actually more scary than the other options because it’s real, it’s not preventable, it comes out of nowhere, and just like THAT, a routine day becomes a horror show of vanishing people and drownings. Maybe that’s just me because I’m particularly panicky about drowning, but those unstoppable mega-waves are on my “things I never want to experience” list.
I've never seen the ocean, but I live hours away from Lake Superior and Mille Lacs. Both are so large that, standing on the shore, the other side is too distant to be seen. The first time I looked across a shoreless lake as a child was the first time I felt cosmic horror. As I grew older and learned about the histories of the Great Lakes, it only reinforced my decision to stay on solid ground.
@@tropezando I mean the lakes are almost the size of certaib states. So seeing the other shore is definitely impossible. I think I heard that certain parts of the Nile river is so wide that you cant't see the other side. And thats thin compared to lakes just to compare

Apparently the thing about a half eaten meal being on the table has actual just been added on for thrill also, a few different sources i've seen have said that when Joseph opened the door three bigger than average, black birds flew out of the lighouse. Might I add, in a few different videos i've seen on this topic stated that when Joseph went up to the lighthouse to see where the men where, the lighhouses main door was locked. This means that if McArthur really was in such a rush to warn the others that he forgot his moleskins then why would he stoo and lock the doors? I understand that yours is just a theory and what i've said is just something that i've heard. Great video!
Your channel in general but particularly this video reminds me of Buzzfeed unsolved meets nexpo. Its a brilliant combination and I hope you keep it up!

I’m definitely subscribing and watching more vids in the future!

Ahh, I discovered your channel yesterday by chance and absolutely love it! What a gem, RUclips should be recommending the channel to more people, you're too underrated!:( I absolutely adore your voice! It's kind of calming, but brings the creepiness to the story out. It's perfect to listen to when I'm doing some art or something. Love your content so much! Keep it up!
Thank you I really really do appreciate that I try to really get in the moment when I’m telling stories I feel it helps tell them better or maybe I’m wrong who knows regardless I’m glad that you’re enjoying my videos

@@Cadaber I am so gald I found this channel, your vids cover some obscure topics and give good theories for the ones that haven't been solved yet, your research is absolutely fascinating and shows your love for the vids you make.
Going on a binge of this channel, love the content man!!
Thank you very much, I’m really glad that you are enjoying the content.
Stumbled upon your channel during a rabbit hole of vids, can say you have one of the most promising channels I've ever seen. The scripts are detailed and interesting, the editing is really good and your voice is perfect for these vids. Looking forward to see you grow
You’re amazing! Thank you so much
i really am impressed with your work in this video. i think i’ve heard about this case a really long time ago but never knew that the logbook wasn’t actually true and your dedication to showing the most true side of a story shows by including that. anyway gonna go binge every video on this channel lmao
I clicked on this by accident but I have not regrets. I needed something to feel the void this evening. Thanks for the content.
Hey, just came across your videos, I really enjoy them! Our channels are about the same size at the moment. From one content creator to another, I wish you the best in growing your channel!
Oh damn, we really are close in numbers but look at you, a video 4 days old and 69k views. That’s incredible!
Also thank you. I truly appreciate that. I hope your channel flourishes too
I’ve seen a lot of comments abt how amazing you and these vids are and I can’t help but agree. The quality you are putting out is truly astounding, I’ve watched like five of your videos in a row. Keep being awesome man, I know you’ll be big
Thank you so much I’m very glad that you were enjoying my videos
I like to believe this is the story that inspired Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse” from 2019, but I’m probably wrong. Still fun to speculate though.
this is exactly what i was thinking!
@@momcat2223 I'm surprised I haven't heard of this sooner! I'm somewhat of a fan of Poe. Thanks for the link, as well!
The movie The Vanishing is about this incident
I've just found this channel and I love it, if this keeps up you're gonna go big in no time ❤
The increase this channel has had, has been mind blowing and I am so grateful
I just wanted to grab a here before 100K ticket.
I'm claiming one as well
I'll snag one as well
So glad one of your videos popped up on my recommended. Your channel is so good
Thank you 😊
Unusually large sets of waves, or "rogue waves" that seem to appear out of nowhere, are a fact.
And that's before you even factor rogue waves into it
Exactly what Ive thought as well. The moved boulder and the bent railings, yea, thats a huge wave.
@@nialler78 Yep, underestimate the power of the sea at your peril. Incredible damage to coastal regions, because of a confluence of tide movement.
On youtube search type in, Noda tsunami bridge......its the Japan 2011 tsunami and shows a wave approaching a bridge as it gets to the shore, holy crap!!
I didn’t recognize this story until you mentioned the logbook accounts. I remember this mystery from Lemmino’s top 10 unresolved mystery vid. Great work on the soundtrack btw
Watched a few of your vids and Bam! I'm subscribed now. Even though some of the topics like this lighthouse have been done before lots of times, you always seem to have a theory or two that i havent heard and i like this attitude you have of researching and coming up with your own opinion. You dont see that very often strangely.
Those i havent heard im glad you cover as it sets you apart. So keep on doing what your doing, eventually you'll hit it big as its criminal you dont have more subs
Just a small note - on a north/south map: North is up, South is down, West is left, East is right. Other than that these presentations are AWESOME! Greatly enjoy your style. 👍🏻😁👍🏻
I just discovered your channel. I binge watched everything, truly amazing. Keep up the good work, you will get the attention you deserve.
Trust me the attention that my channel has been getting has been mine blowing I’m very glad that you have discovered my channel and that you are enjoying the content.
The things you stumble over at 5am - great content and conclusion

Dude your videos are so good, you’re going to make it big, and even if you somehow don’t I’ll still be here.
That’s commitment, I truly appreciate that so much. I’m glad you’re apart of this community
Awesome video! I hope you get as many subs as you want. You deserve it!
Thank you so much, but more importantly I’m so glad you enjoyed the video.
These videos are nothing short of grim, but extremely well done!
Just got into your videos this week and I'm really enjoying them! :) The Scots-Gaelic/Irish words can be nightmarish to pronounce, but eilean (isle/island) sounds like "ihl-luhn", and taighe (house) sounds like "tsi-heh" - and tomain has the stress on the first syllable, like "TOE-man". Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff! Slán Go Fóill.
man your videos are so good you got a new sub today! you deserve wayyy more imo
I just found this channel and it is amazing!! You are severely underrated! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Thank you very much. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my content.
Bro I can never tell if your videos give me anxiety or relieve it lol. I listen to them when I go to bed 😂
How can someone with so little subs produce such great content. Subscribed to you, keep up the great work man, you remind me of a similar youtuber called LEMMiNO
He’s amazing, his channel is perfect. I watch his videos the day they are released. Thank you so much for saying I’m similar to him
It's nice to see your subs grow! KEEP IT UP!

You’re going to be huge bro
Thank you so much 😊
Reasons I fear the ocean sometimes: waves can do, uh, that.
You're not alone, I have a crippling fear of the ocean
And thats thin compared to lakes
just to compare
Subbed, this is some good shit. You're probably gonna turn into another favorite of mine like LEMMiNO and BarelySociable.
if you want more channels like this, Nexpo and Reignbot are pretty cool
Them are my two favorite Tim.
The trifecta of perfect channels.
High production value for a small channel. *Nice work!*
I can’t believe those log book entries were made up. Someone needs to have some strong words with the internet about the importance of honesty.
Just finished watching the Carl H video of yours and proceeded to check out your other vids. It feels like I'm watching Lemmino. Just keep up the good work and you'll get more followers soon (when that happens, I'll be proud to say that I've been here since 30k 😂).
Hey keep up the good work, this is genuinely an amazing channel
Graphics are top notch man
Thank you, seriously thank you. I spent so much time making those animations. I really really appreciate you saying that
@@Cadaber it shows👏🏻👏🏻 so glad you ended up in my recommended (after watching a Barely Sociable video). Great work.
Great atmoshpere for the intro! Very good vid already. Subbed!
Damned good deductive reasoning. Too bad about the journal though. It was a lot more fun with the possibility of lovecraftian monsters.
Great video, your channel is a hidden gem for sure!
Thank you, I truly appreciate that. Feel free to share my video/channel around.
Yo this is so well done, can't wait to see your next videos
your videos are so underrated!
They have a theory now of a rouge wave which you should check out pretty compelling and interesting
is this the day? is this the time I finally find a great channel when it was not big yet? I hope so
That intro....holy cow. Wow.
Did you like it?
@@Cadaber What's the piano piece in it? I can't for the life of me remember what it's called
You honestly deserve so much more views!
Thank you so much
Your channel in general but particularly this video reminds me of Buzzfeed unsolved meets nexpo. Its a brilliant combination and I hope you keep it up!
Comparing me to the ghoulie boyz and Nexpo is a huge compliment. Thank you so much, I’m glad you’re enjoying my content 😊
You really do your research. Love your channel.
Great narration, great editing, and a great guy with great humor that no one talks about except me lol
Still. Great channel.
You make me blush, thank you so much ☺️
This is a great video man, thanks for the interesting story, and the excellent narration. Your theory is the most plausible I've seen on this. And I'm quite glad that they made a movie of this story, although they used a very Hollywood "Chest of Mcguffin gold".
this is some grade a content man, amazing work
your voice is so soothing 😌
Thank you! That was something I had the hardest time getting adjusted to when I first started because I hated my voice, I’ve since then gotten much more comfortable with doing it.
@@Cadaber you're doing pretty i can tell you that :)
Thank you so much
