If Neil never played drums, and only his lyrics were his legacy, he'd still be an all-timer. Dude was a god damned gift to humanity. The lyrics to the Enemy Within are a prime example.
To all the complainers over the years about Rush's 80s "synth phase," listen to that GUITAR! Alex has always been so creative and adaptive. My musical hero!
I'm 58 and have been listening to them for 40 years. Their songs and music, Neil Peart's lyrics actually saved my life about 30 years ago.The Pass spoke to me so deeply that nit saved my life.
The Weapon is in my daily mix. Hits home for me as a Veteran with the line "He's not afraid of your judgment, He knows of horrors worse than your Hell, He's a little bit afraid of dying But he's a lot more afraid of your lying, And the things that he fears are a weapon to be held against him". Witch hunt ...those lyrics are soooo thoughtful and deep. "Freeze" I always liked. just the whole song is great. great reaction. keep em coming.
Yes, I was there for that. My first Rush concert in 1984. Grace Under Pressure Tour. The loudest concert I was at until their Test For Echo Tour. That one was the loudest concert ever. Ears ringing for 3 days.
I was at this very concert back n 1984, at the maple leaf gardens in T.O. Canada. It was for their Grace under pressure tour, they did 3 nights ...the third was on Sat sept 23rd I believe, all ticket sales that night were donated to the united way. Awesome concert I and my friends sat on Geddy’s side of the stage. Such memories.
Neil did the typical writer thing and titled the 4 parts in reverse order from when they were released. I loved how each part deals. With different manifestations of fear to illustrate how we as people are affected by them in different ways.
The song "Freeze" was written by Neil after the double tragedies of losing both his wife (cancer) and young daughter (accident). To deal with the pain, he took to the road and travelled by motorcycle over many thousands of miles and lyrics like these were about how he coped with everything thrown at him. I hadn't heard this song in many years and was surprised how the lyrics resonate with me more now, thanks for the reaction (never seen a Freeze reaction before!).
Very Cool, I have seen all of these tracks Live! Freeze from Vapor Trails was such a fresh move in their sound. That whole album was new concept: no guitar solos, no synthesizers! I fell in love with this album after going through the cold winter of no new Rush for many years- this was a recovery project for them and they really did an amazing job- the live show was Fantastic
If I remember correctly they played all 4 parts of this on the test 4 Echo tour. I think we saw them 5 times this tour. We saw them 3rd row center in Pittsburgh, then a few days later we saw them in Columbus. We were late due to a storm shutting down some roads. Came in on the 2nd or 3rd song. We waited until it was over before heading to our seats. By the time we got to our row; rather close up stage left, Geddy was with Alex over on stage right. As we got to our seats, Geddy came over and waved to us. Too cool. On Time Stand Still, Geddy said they did recognize folks in the audience.
That's comedian Joe Flaherty (passed away earlier this year) doing one of his most memorable characters from SCTV's 'Monster Chiller Horror Theater'. If you lived in Canada in the 80s - you grew up with Rush and SCTV.
Joe was born in my home town Pittsburgh, and was somewhat of a parody of Chilly Billy a local host of Chiller Theater. Also a hoot that the vampire sounds like a werewolf.
As others have said, Count Floyd is a character from SCTV. The boys loved the show, and in fact, Geddy knew Rick Moranis growing up, which is how they got him to sing Take Off on the McKenzie Brothers album.
Witch Hunt is my favorite of the 4. I just love the very Halloween feel of it. The mob noises in the background really creates a complete visual, like watching a horror movie.
They were philosophers of progressive rock. Part 4 was from the album Vapor Trails. Their come back album from a five year hiatus after Neil’s heart breaking tragedies. The fusion was yet a new progression in their music and this song was very deep. My favorite in the trilogy of Fear is Witch Hunt. The last line, “ quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand, ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand.” ( Lee, Lifeson and Peart 1981) Is still relevant today and so true.
Thank you for reacting to the fear tetralogy in one go, red ❤! The enemy within is known to be a pep-talk by Neil, so you're doing the right thing by putting it on your morning songs list 👌.
I was there at this show! They handed us all those paper 3-D glasses on the way into the show and everyone tossed them on when Count Floyd (Joe Flaherty doing his great SCTV character) told us to. A really fun show.
Hello there, Pretty One: 'Rush Fear Trilogy'...ALL FOUR PARTS! 🤣😂🤣That sounds very Canadian. And the Count from the Canadian program, SCTV with his 3D glasses! That reminds me of one of my favourite skits from this segment of the show. Three stewardesses called on the castle to ask if they could stay for the night because their car had broken down. John Candy tells his sidekick Igor, "Igor, take their coats...take their blouses...take their skirts...rip and tear, Igor...rip and tear"! And then, Count Floyd comes back on and his 3D glasses are all steamed up. I believe all the Bible is true and I am so happy that you picked that out!
That cherry red drum set that Neil had back in the 80’s was my favourite drum kit of his, with the Simmons electronic drums in the back and his drum throne would rotate to switch sets.
The era of this performance (late 80s/early 90s) was the hight of my Rush mania in HS and college. I forgot how cool Alex's hair and clothes were back then. 😂 And Neil with that braid down his back! 👀😎 Good times! 🎉
Wow! I hadn't yet heard 'Freeze', but I like it --it's also exhausting imo. :) I feel like the live performances from the late '80's were Geddy's vocal peak; he sounds great in that show! The lyrics for 'Witch Hunt' still resonate today; I live in Iowa where a book ban in school libraries is currently in effect (as a former public library worker and current bookseller at an independent bookstore, this breaks my heart). I especially like the live performance of 'The Weapon' in this concert.
With a guy as well read & intelligent as Neil writing the lyrics & naming the songs meant that there was always interesting concepts in their catalog like this. Never a dull moment xx
This Album would fit these times we are in now,,, This was a powerful album when it came out ,, This was my favorite album PERIOD.I used to drive around listening to this over and over and over. Mantra s are important .. yes they are.
Alex produces some sounds from his guitar on the weapon, that I don’t believe I’ve ever heard before and when they all come in after the solo in lock step, it’s a magical moment. Freeze is a really dense tune and takes a while and multiple listens to penetrate, but is very rewarding when it does. It is very meta in that, It is meant to create a disconcerting feeling in the listener that is more about rhythm than Melody, but then when the chorus breaks through it, utterly beautiful, this one is a deep cut and underappreciated in my mind. I love it.
this was always one of my favorites live. each part on its own is amazing but when put together they blow your mind. seeing it live is so much more powerful than the album alone as well.
I really love the Fear Trilogy and yeah it's funny there are 4 parts. The Enemy Within, The Weapon, Witch Hunt, Freeze were played in the right order for me too. You know, some people think I'm a weirdo for loving Rush so much, so I say what you said, it's the rest of the world that's the problem lol. They're losing out imo.
These days I think Freeze is my favourite of the four. The off kilter time in it just grooves so hard and it's one of their best songs since they resumed in the early 2000's
Freeze was off of the Vapor Trails album, the first album after Neil lost his daughter and wife... many of us wondered if the band was done after hearing about those tragedies...
Hi Red, I am slowly catching up to your Rush reactions. I was away on a road trip. I love that you did the whole fear series! ❤ All of them are bangers!
Thank you for acknowledging a man talking to men about fear - I never thought about that - it is profound. I did use the lines "I'm not missing out..." as a mantra and ended up taking the risk to move to Vancouver, BC Canada from St. Louis. I'm sooo glad i did!
The first 3 were from the early 80's but Freeze was from 2002's Vapor Trails, the first album after they took years off due to Neil's family tragedies.
Totally Beautiful!!!! Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
With the addition of Freeze, the Fear Trilogy effectively became a tetralogy. Freeze is an absolute juggernaut of a track and it would have been great to hear it played live.
Yes, she should react to some of these songs that are commonly regarded as 'bad' Rush songs! 😀 In _this_ case even by the band themselves! 😅 I don't mind it myself, though 🙂 Just the intro is a bit cringey 😆
Alex was picking the strings above the fretboard to achieve that soft guitar sound, at the end of 'The Weapon' 🙂 As for 'Witch Hunt', you as a redhead may be lucky to not have lived during _those_ ancient and dark times! 😬
Primus came out after Rush. Primus Opened for Rush and was very influenced by Rush, not the other way around. Rush is the Original. If you want their influences check out their album of cover songs. You will be surprised. Love it Red, keep it up!
As I might have mentioned in my commentary on "Limelight," Neil struggled with his own fears and anxieties, stemming from a near-drowning incident at age 10, followed several years later by an incident that happened while Rush was on tour and he became caught in a crush of fans, triggering a traumatic flashback, from which he developed a strong distrust of strangers and a constant, overwhelming urge to escape. During the last show on the North American leg of the Grace Under Pressure Tour in Providence, RI, he had an anxiety attack, and they barely made it to the end, and then half an hour into their homeward flight on a Learjet, he had an overwhelming feeling that he had to get off, so the pilot quickly touched down in Rochester, NY, where a driver was waiting to take him the rest of the way. On subsequent tours, he would often ride his motorcycle from one stop to the next, and he would often high-tail it off the stage at the end of a show, headed for the security of his dressing room. In a few months, I will be facing my own fears as I take my first plane flight since I was a child, and I hope it will go well. Have a beautiful evening, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Hey RHN, Another priceless reaction !!!! This is back when Alex had flock of seagulls hair😊 Count Floyd was always hilarious. I miss SCTV. And yes I would love to talk to you for 2 hours, so feel free to make a 2 hour reaction. Have a great day eh !!!🇨🇦
Fantastic! Good point about the mental health where toxic masculinity has caused so much damage. Rush seems to have a deep connection with their fans unlike anything I’ve ever seen. 👍
Freeze is on the Vapour trails album which a lot of fan didn’t like at first but a couple of years later, Rush release a remix of that album and that remix ranks pretty high on my list now. Huuuuuuge improvement as they cleaned up the mix a lot and removed a lot of arrangement tracks that cluttered the original mix. Much better !!!!
There's no better way to get over my vaccine side effects that Rush Wednesday with Redhead Neighbor! 2 hours of Redhead Neighbor exploring Rush? Sign me up! The only thing that flys higher then my freak flag, is my geek flag. Yes he was picking on the fretboard. The tone of a guitar changes drastically based on where the string is picked, plucked, struck, however the sound is generated. The closer to the bridge you pock, the brighter the tone gets. I would say that which one is best depends largely on your mood for that day, and what you're going through at the time. All are incredible. Freeze was played on the Vapor Trails tour. I was hoping they would've played the whloe suite to give it closure. Neal had just experienced the thing most only fear prior to this album. It was great live. It's strange that they this one was released 20 years after Enemy Within.
If Neil never played drums, and only his lyrics were his legacy, he'd still be an all-timer. Dude was a god damned gift to humanity. The lyrics to the Enemy Within are a prime example.
If Neil wrote a book of poetry rather than lyrics he would be a poet laureate.
To all the complainers over the years about Rush's 80s "synth phase," listen to that GUITAR! Alex has always been so creative and adaptive. My musical hero!
I feel like Alex expanded his guitar vocabulary during the "synth phase" and it was awesome.
I'm 58 and have been listening to them for 40 years. Their songs and music, Neil Peart's lyrics actually saved my life about 30 years ago.The Pass spoke to me so deeply that nit saved my life.
RIP Joe Flaherty. Gotta love Count Floyd.
1 uh uh uh 2 uh uh uh. I love to count.

I remember him from SCTV comedy show.

This will be great!🎉
Welcome! 😎
Love that you understand and fully appreciate this trilogy❤
They were philosophers of progressive rock. Part 4 was from the album Vapor Trails. Their come back album from a five year hiatus after Neil’s heart breaking tragedies. They do cover a lot of territory. Neil was always percolating.
This is classic 80’s RUSH. Even they weren’t immune to the 80’s style. 😆😁👍
Just another banger from Rush
Experience too Extreme?! Experience to EXTREME! YEA!!! BRAIN FOOD!!! THANK YOU RUSH! MUCH LUV!
Red your heart is so genuine it makes my heart warm and fuzzy!!!
I just heard you say that men's mental health is important it doesn't get more real than that
Leave it to Rush to have a 4 part trilogy! Cheers 🇨🇦.
Thank you for reacting to the fear tetralogy in one go, red ❤! The enemy within is known to be a pep-talk by Neil, so you're doing the right thing by putting it on your morning songs list 👌.
Rush made me wait 40 years to listen to all their stuff. Ms Red is gonna get it in 40 days. 😊
I actually saw this concert live, amazing ❤

Every good trilogy has four parts. 😂
1 and 4 were the standouts for me. I think part 1, the enemy within might be my new favourite. 🔥
The era of this performance (late 80s/early 90s) was the hight of my Rush mania in HS and college. I forgot how cool Alex's hair and clothes were back then. 😂 And Neil with that braid down his back! 👀😎 Good times! 🎉

Yeah 1984 my first Rush concert at the Texas jam all day festival they were the headliner and WOW OZZY WAS THERE AS WELL
Fantastic reactions!! Thank you for doing all 4 parts in a row
Enemy Within, The Weapon, Witch Hunt, Freeze. 🤘 "Ignorance and Prejudice and Fear Walk Hand and Hand"

Glad to know there are Proverbs 31 women out there! Blessings on you! Mizpah!
Reminded me to create a Playlist for the "Fear" series on my Plex... just so much greatness in these lyrics and music...
The Enemy Within is my favorite Rush tune. (live version)
It's one of my favorite solos from Alex.
You are soooooo intelligent!!!!!!!!!!!
My dreams have come true! You're reacting to the Weapon. 😋

Hi Red,
I am slowly catching up to your Rush reactions. I was away on a road trip.
I love that you did the whole fear series! ❤
All of them are bangers!
Biblically, you're right in Target.
Thank you for acknowledging a man talking to men about fear - I never thought about that - it is profound. I did use the lines "I'm not missing out..." as a mantra and ended up taking the risk to move to Vancouver, BC Canada from St. Louis. I'm sooo glad i did!
Love this!!
Thank you for this - I’d forgotten all about Neil’s repeated stick tosses during The Weapon!
The thinking man’s band strikes again… 🙏🏼✌🏻
The first 3 were from the early 80's but Freeze was from 2002's Vapor Trails, the first album after they took years off due to Neil's family tragedies.
freeze is awful, rush had really lost their way after power windows...

My new favourite reaction video! You should read My Effin' Life by Geddy, and Ghost Rider by Neil.
Greatest ever
Listened to Freeze in college (Rush returns!!!) I think I cried a bit at my huge monitor during computer class ha.
With the addition of Freeze, the Fear Trilogy effectively became a tetralogy. Freeze is an absolute juggernaut of a track and it would have been great to hear it played live.
wow, well done.
Every emotion??? Check out Tai Shan... Very different from "normal" Rush.
LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!!

I'm not going to try to convince anyone but I like Tai Shan.
@@mdu2112 So do I...truly.
Please do Armor and Sword live from the Snakes and Arrows tour!
Hi, geez , rush would still be in my top groups just on Neil's lyrics, neil= mom, what I play is difficult, yet his flipping sticks lol.
Told you the weapon what a great show at maple leaf gardens
I just noticed your NCC 1701 license plate! LOL! Smashing Pumkins 1979!
Red hair, you have to feel the guitarre sound, then you have a freeway to happyness.
Alex was picking the strings above the fretboard to achieve that soft guitar sound, at the end of 'The Weapon' 🙂
As for 'Witch Hunt', you as a redhead may be lucky to not have lived during _those_ ancient and dark times! 😬

Fear as defined by psychologist Karl Yung is : Fantacized Event Appearing Real. F E A R. I believe that .
I think there should be a Church of Rush. I think if the world listened to Rush, the world would be a better place.
'Freeze' (the final song was never played live unfortunately.
Strumming strings near their center makes a smoother, less harsh sound.
Primus came out after Rush. Primus Opened for Rush and was very influenced by Rush, not the other way around. Rush is the Original. If you want their influences check out their album of cover songs. You will be surprised.
Love it Red, keep it up!
Freeze is cool. No synthesizer. One foot in the ocean, the other on land !
oh the name of Count Floyds show was "Monster Chiller Horror Theatre" hahaha

Fantastic! Good point about the mental health where toxic masculinity has caused so much damage. Rush seems to have a deep connection with their fans unlike anything I’ve ever seen. 👍
I love the original Fear Trilogy but Freeze is the sonic equivalent of nails on a chalkboard to my ears.
The Necromancer would be a good one for Halloween
Oh yeah, that one does have some creepy vibes (not to mention trippy).
And Twilight Zone
Count Floyd rocked in 3D, not 1-half D! SCTV was a great show and gave Geddy his only #1 hit.
Neil's rat tail hair was fun to see.
