Apparently, the mole joke wasn't initially intensional. As with a lot of movies, the scenes were shot out of order, and the bathtub scene was fairly early. When the Sherrif asks if the mole was originally on the other side, it was a genuine 'did costuming screw up?' inquiery, but Mel Brooks liked the 'I have a MOLE?' response so much that he decided that the roaming mole would be an ongoing thing.

Something interesting about the chastity belt and key is that it makes total sense. Robin and Marian's parents wanted them to get married as a political move, so they put her in the belt and spun her a story about her "one true love," while Robin's dad had the key the whole time. He was just supposed to wait until they were old enough to get married and then pass it to Robin.

The Men In Tights song is lightly based on the Jews In Space song from History of the World Part I.
Mel Brook's famous line "It's good to be the king!" is also from History of the World Part I.
The Patriot Missile system that had just been introduced was one of the first "smart" missiles deployed (although it was only used as an interceptor).

Time to get Merry with the Men because this is an extremely funny movie, so here are some fun facts
    - This isn’t the first time that Mel Brooks worked on a Robin Hood project when he worked on satirical spin on Robin Hood called “When Things Were Rotton”, & Mel Brooks wrote all of the original songs
    - Robin Hood is played by Cary Elwes but when Mel Brooks called him for the role Cary thought he was being pranked, but he was prefect in my opinion & like he said “unlike other Robin Hood’s I can speak with an English” was such a jab
    - Patrick Stewart wasn’t the first choice for King Richard was originally going to be played by Sean Connery since he has played that character before, but this time he would crossdress along with wanting a 1 million salary so he could donate to charities
    - When the Abbot (played by Dick Van Patten) was walking down then got annoyed by a man that said “Hey Abbot” is a reference to Abbott & Costello
    - Dom DeLuise may have been the mafia inspired Don Giovanni, but did you know his son David DeLuise was also in the movie as one of the villagers

"Jay" was racist term in the late 1800s. When cars were invented, there were a lot of deaths as cars hit people walking in the streets, so there were serious discussions about banning cars. In an attempt to shift blame, the automotive industry blamed "jays" for the accidents, hence where "Jaywalking" came from.
