Beautiful shape. I still have my 96' 856 also all original and excellent shape. Mine is the titanium color. Shimano XT. I avoided the two elastomer shocks and have a coil (yellow). I also put a Rockshox Indy fork, Speedplay pedals and it's 25 lbs turn key. City Slickers for riding in town. It's the bike I'll always have and love to this day. Good luck with yours! Peace from NYC!
I like that other colour option. I did have one a while ago, I built it up with silver/grey parts to match the frame including a really nice pair of Ritchy Z-Max grey tyres.
I had on of these just a few months ago, it was an 856 as well, but it had coils front, and rear, not elastomers. It was my dream bike from 1997 when I saw it in a mag, couldn't afford back then, Rode it completely stock when I first got it from market place, and immediately binned the front girvin fork, that thing is horrible, put a fox float rl fork on it, and loved trail riding it after that, also put a 1x9 on it. Sadly had to sell it due to job loss, an money is tight, hopefully get another one when I get new job.
Stunning remember seeing an all polished one of these on the dream sequence on the legendary Dirt video. Always wanted to try one of these, I ended up with a Sintesi instead
Oh nice, yeah that was a 9**, maybe 955 if it was 1995. They were polished. Was it the full suss Sintesi you had, the one that a few companies badged up? They were/are really cool looking bikes.
@@TheRetroBiker yes it's a Bromont sort of gold and titanium colour finish with a marzocchi rear air shock with around 2inches of travel. I still have the frame planning to build it one day but have a lot of other projects too. It was a frame by verlicchi that they made for Saracen sintesi and a few others.
How can you say that ha ha!!!! They were an absolute dream bike to me back then, I was just a kid though, I like rigid bikes anyway so make up the elastomers super hard. Ride like a rigid bike with a bit of shock absorbing 😁
Wow! That's pretty cool, wonder if he was about when I saw the team in about 1995 when I was a teenager. At one of the Grundigs, I've still got the signed team post cards somewhere.
That Gore Ride-On cable IS original! I have (had) this same bike in silver finish. Upgraded my shokes to coil over and brake to V-brakes as the 90's tech advanced. Anyway, now I've rebuiolt the whole thing as an eBike. chk it out ruclips.net/video/6hyBkvT0o7g/видео.html
I still have my original from 1996. Titanium color with a shawn palmer stroker fs ti Manitou.

I have 2 857's one I bought brand new, the 2nd I bought on EBAY. Both ridden but in excellent shape.
Oh wow, you've had one from new! I had a lovely 857 with loads of M950, stunning bike.
I just finished completely stripping and repainting/rebuilding an 856... Now doing another one for my 10 year old.
Beautiful bike!
One lucky 10 year old, well done!
I love my 857! I've had to restore it a bit but I still have the original frame and shocks!
That's awesome you still use it!
впервые вижу такой велосипед, это нечто, просто пушка👍👍👍
Those Gore cables were available in 1996. I had them on my AMP research B4

That sounds cool, stuck a picture up on 'The Retro Biker' Facebook group, would be good to see it!

855 and 856s where the pinnacle of realistically affordable 90s mtbs
They were great value, I seem to remember there were loads of deals to be had with them too, prices cut. Such great bikes to ride!
I've never been one to look back and crave an old MTB but I think either a 856 or a manitou FS frame would be the acceptions
Show and shine this at the next Malverns mate !!
Oh yes!!!! Might be a bit outdone by the more exotic competition though 🤔
Great video chap, amazing time warp example 😎
Thanks dude, I was very lucky to get this one 😁
Looks nice mate
Thanks Paul, probably my favourite bike!
We used to call these pooflex back in the day. They rode somewhat ok once the dual crown/coil shock version came out.

Now ride it hardcore through the woods to commemorate it! 😁🤙
Oh yes, definitely will be!!!!
Wish I'd have kept my 856 and 857.
They are great bikes. Actually my 857 is next up on the channel....
A mate of mine managed the Pro Flex BMW World Cup team
