Just as well Weil wasnt an Anglican clergyman with a doctorate in theology,,because then no one would have read a word she wrote,I think Iris Murdoch understood Weil best,,it needs a great hearted soul to understand a great hearted soul
Re: the comment in Weil's supposed 'self hatred" as a Jew. Weil was raised in a secular Jewish family in France. Her mother emphasized "academic genius". Weil gravitated towards Plato, etc. Is one's identity established at birth by "blood line": an outdated notion? Of course not. Here whole project, sadly ended too soon, involved NOT identifying with "tribes". Hence her refusal to join the Church. Hence her reluctance to identify as being Jewish. It. was the racists in France that so identified her, again, through "blood line". We need to leave that malarkey behind.
Why so much chat regarding her health? She's dead, what she wrote was brilliant. Not necessarily correct, for you, but these are ideals, ideas, and opinions from an intelligent empathetic woman at a specific time in history. She gives us insight into this period of time, and government. Isn't that what needs to be discussed? Also why so many angry, comments? What's up with that shit? Must suck to be a miserable person.
Show how enlightened you are with your smug downplaying of her Christian mysticism. How difficult it is to find something online about beautiful Simone that is not revolting.
The whole thing about judging her way of dress or that she wasn't a girly girl but an intellectual...an alien? I don't remember hearing such superficial descriptions of a gifted man. Am I wrong or just touchy?
Have you really read her WAITING ON GOD, GRACE AND GRAVITY etc? You mention Grace and Gravity in a line or two but never even touched on Waiting on God, truly a masterpiece. Disappointing.
Well it's certainly a very good start to an interview! Stephen speaks very well.

One does not benefit so much from reading about her (or others for that matter); one does well to empathize with her (and others).
The comment about notebook editing is very helpful

Diogenes Allen still seems the best guide

Health: mind is embodied. Her writing was done with her embodied mind.

@@heaven7360 Just touchy. People have expectations that if violated will disappoint.
@@heaven7360 the person who wrote this was clearly trying to hint at them being trans while simultaneously jumping through hoops to avoid saying it.
@@Aieieo what a stupid comment

Rosenorn- I would say she had Aspergers from what I read.
totally wrong, you must have read nothing about her, most probably.
Perhaps you need to use your mind and readings!
