- Ave Maris Stella (Latin for Hail, star of the sea,) is a Marian hymn used at Vespers from about eighth Century. It was a popular hymn in the Middle Ages. It has been used in this new composition with brass band and organ music for asking the intercession of Mother Mary for the deadly decease of corona virus.

I once read in a prayer book of St Bridget of Sweden she was in a boarding house with her family when a riot broke out in Rome. A local mob threatened to set fire to the house with her in it and she asked Our Lord whether to flee. He told her, "It doesn't matter if your enemies plot your death. The reason My enemies plotted against Me, is because I permitted it!" Mary advised her, "Sing as a group 'the Ave Maris Stella', and I will safeguard you against every danger!"
I think one of the great things I love about Mary is her overall universal appeal to her children and all of God's creation that expands beyond the Earth, but the entire Universe as a whole. Many religions, cultures, countries, young and old, rich and poor, race, creeds, societal background, speak of her with great childlike love and confidence; north, east, west and south..with countless names and titles. I'm not even ashamed to call her 'Mom' sometimes. When I was about 5 yrs old, I remember hearing 'Let It Be' by the Beatles on the radio, not knowing it was a hymn to Our Lady based on her response to the Archangel Gabriel's message to her, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word!" Also the Basque carol 'Gabriel's Message', "The angel Gabriel from Heaven came, his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame. "All hail!" said he to the maiden Mary, "Most highly favored lady! GLORIA!" And the Word was made flesh...and dwelt in our midst!
In Bach's oratorio, 'St Matthew Passion', the librettist Picander wrote in one of the chorales,
"O, Man! Bewail of your great sin, your shortcoming of the glory of God!
Because of this, God, in His infinite wisdom and love for the human race,
chose to send from His heavenly throne,
a special mediator in the form of His Son
so that mankind may finally be reconciled with God once and for all!
"He took on flesh, born of a pure and humble virgin
and raised under the most humble of circumstances.
As He lived and dwelt in our midst,
He became well-acquainted with our woes
and was willing to give health to the sick,
bring the dead to life, sight to the blind
and make the lame walk and jump for joy...
all this and more by simply suffering
a most heinous death on the Cross!"
Thank u God bless you
@@shalomm-catholichymns5227 Perhaps you should do another video of Our Lady using 'Let It Be', featuring her in various cultural forms and her children throughout the world in prayer at many of her shrines, churches, etc. I think that would be awesome! It's just a thought. As you know Paul McCartney and George Harrison were raised in the Church when they were young.
@@shalomm-catholichymns5227 I live in Atlanta, Georgia...born and raised. My late parents were classically-trained musicians. My father was a cradle-Catholic and my mother, who was a Protestant, converted to Catholicism when she married my dad. We were raised in a very tolerant and ecumenically-friendly household. When I was baptized, my Godmother was a Roman Catholic and my Godfather was Greek Orthodox. I have many fond memories of the time when my Godparents came to visit when I was little and my mother and Godparents taught me a few words in Greek since I have an affinity for foreign languages. My Godfather and mother even taught me a few prayers and anthems used in the Greek Orthodox church. When my father came home from work, he had heard me rattle off some Greek and my dad told me those were the very selfsame prayers used in the Roman Catholic church too before the Great Schism. I turned to my mom and asked what 'schism' meant and she said it meant 'split'. My dad's people came from Sicily, which meant I also had some Greek and other countries, empires, cultures, etc flowing in my veins. My Godfather, knowing my dad to be a well-read man, teased him about it by asking him what he knew about the Great Schism and my dad replied with a shrug, "It was very schismatic!" HAHAHA
My dad was a classically-trained violinist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Shaw and my mom was a paid soprano soloist in a church choir, who also dabbled in a few musical and operatic projects. I tried following in their footsteps by taking up piano and flute when I was young but had a hard time learning to read music, but at least I have some level of aptitude about music such as the stories of some songs, operas, sacred musical works, etc. At home, I was exposed to listening to all kinds of music
In Bach's 'St John Passion', one of the chorales, Bach's librettist wrote, "Even as Jesus approached the final moments of His death on the Cross, He thought of everything, down to the utmost detail, especially concerning the welfare of His bereaved Mother, by choosing His youngest apostle John to look after her and take care of her from that day on...
"In the meantime, I appeal to all humanity before leaving this mortal coil, please set things right by serving and loving God and your neighbor as you do yourself. Then, as your end approaches, your soul won't be troubled and you will die in peace!"
