Ah, sweet little dog, and you look so pretty in this video Aisling. I’m smiling at you looking at the camera lens rather than the viewfinder, lol feels like we’re sitting down for a face to face chat. The grant process is frustrating, we felt we were hanging around for ages waiting for the inspector. We just had to be careful that we didn’t start any work that we would be applying for or it would disqualify it.
Well, that is disappointing on the grant process! You need to go to the next field and flag him/her down and ask about cutting your field. As a retired farmer, farmers are pretty friendly and willing ti help out. Take care and keeo your chin up. Great job today!
So disappointing about the grant but I’ve a good feeling things will be moving soon! I did talk to a couple farmers and they said my land is basically bog at the moment and with the long grass there’s risk their tractors could get damaged by large rocks or trash left behind, but I do have some one coming to look this week that can mulch and do drainage for me! So hopefully some good news on that front soon too!
Hi Ashling I admire your enormous work ethic. Please plan your work or you will Finnish up like me and all the thousands of other farmers with every bone in our body creaking. Start by finding all Barb wire and strim along side so when tractor arrives there is no obstacle. Stop stop nocking house as stone work is poor and was cover up for a porpuse, remember you do not have to have a lime rendered house to have a beautiful and happy home, kind regards Sean
Hi Sean! I hope you’re keeping well ❤️ thankfully got a builder in today to take a look and all is well structurally except one or two patches of wall thank god! I have a guy coming to look at the land too for drainage and grass so we’re making a little Progress ☺️
Oh Aisling, the girl puppy is so darn adorable, my heart melted. I do feel your frustration, more driving, I think I'd be inclined to put up a tent somewhere nearby overnight and give yourself a driving break. At least you'll have the entire summer next year although that's not very helpful for this year. But the grass will stop growing soon so that will be very helpful. Fingers crossed the grant comes through soon. Being Irish the Council might give you priority over the pesky foreigners or is that wishful thinking, this actually happened to us at Dublin Airport, they gave us priority boarding just because we have an Irish surname! ❤
Isn’t Rosie just a little dote!!! She’s such a good girl except she loves to bite!! It is frustrating but I have calmed down a little! This update is from August 10th and there was no news up until yesterday when planning exemption came through so fingers and toes crossed they’ll be out to inspect asap! I was talking to another one of my neighbours today who is renovating a home just up the road from me (it’s in some old walk footage I think) but anyway they got the grant and they said that the council were quick enough to come out to them so hopefully news shortly!
Oh Aisling that's very frustrating. I hope that the vacant grant people are a bit more on the ball. When I submitted our receipts/ final reports etc for the derelict grant, we got an email back to let us know that they are 6 weeks behind in looking at these final reports🙄
Oh god I think that must be so much more frustrating and disheartening when you’re at the finish line and waiting for your money back 🥲 I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you guys to get it back asap you’ve put so much amazing work into the house (and the garden I’m about 30 mins into your vid the tomatoes have grown amazingly in your polytunnel!!!!) I’m hoping to hear from the grant people asap, finally got the planning exemption yesterday evening - took 8 weeks but who’s counting 😂😂😂
Hey how are you doing ?your wearing your self out , at this late in the season wouldn’t it be better to just keep the grassed in ear around the house cut ,How soon will shrubs and grasses die off for winter , Fingers. Crossed for the grant to come soon , Love and hugs
Hello! Love and hugs back from me and the girls! Ideally the grass would get cut back before it dies off but we are late in the season now and the weather has been awful, drainage is becoming an issue too so I do have someone hopefully coming up with a plan for the land for me! Hopefully it’ll start moving and shaking soon ❤️
Hi Aishlng, You are doing a great job. It is hard to keep focused regarding the grant, but it will happen, probably when you are not expecting it. Just noticed some cut grass that is in clumps, it would good to gather this up in your wheelbarrow, as they will encourage nettles to grow. Good luck 👍 and keep positive.
Thank you for the kind words ❤️ it has felt a little frustrating recently watching the summer slip by but fingers crossed we’ll have some positive news
Hi my lovely, I know you’re not allowed to stay over in the cottage buuuuuuutt, are you allowed to get yourself a wee cheap caravan and stay mon the driveway? Or put a fancy tent up in the garden?. Just a thought to make it easier for you. We’re frustrated for you too!! I really hope it’s sorted soon and you can get stuck into renovations soon ❤. Hope to see you over there in the new year 😊. Xxx
I would LOVE to see you in the new year we must make that happen! I’m hoping fingers crossed the council will come asap - just got the planning exemption so now just waiting to hear about an inspection! Tis slow moving but hopefully some progress soon! ❤️❤️❤️
Oh the waiting on people is sooooooo annoying, more so when you pay for the service and they keep you waiting, Had one Solicitor who drove us mad, anyway too long a story. I guess the only thing you can take from it is that you can at least spend the time outdoors doing all this work, and as the nights draw in when the application comes you get the green light, it will be all indoors so the winter I hope will pass quick and see us into the spring soon, then you will be so far ahead. Fingers crossed you have some news by now and you see things happening soon. Much love to you girls and Take Care till next time, xxxxxx Dede
Hi Dede ❤️ I hope you’re keeping well ❤️ love and hugs from me and the girls! Thankfully THANKFULLY! Planning exemption was received and immediately sent on to the vacancy people yesterday so here’s to hoping they’ll be out to me in no time with an inspection - my fingers and toes are crossed! Then we can get cracking on the rest!!!
Hello Ashling, my dad a mayo man retired with my mam back to Ireland. He was a builder and boughts cottage in need of repair. He submitted his plans which were rejected( too much of an American design) he submitted another plan, also rejected after 2 years he got fed up. I had to sponsor him and mam to return to canada. He and my mam (both irish born and raised,) daid they would never return to Ireland. Do I understand your frustrations.
Oh that’s so upsetting and disappointing to hear, I’m sorry your mom and dad went through that. Planning is such a tricky thing, and I do think that people should have more power to do what they want/need to their home, that’s such a bad thing to have happened to them
It's probably going to take sometime which is frustrating but as soon as the council are out then everything will start moving fast. I didn't know you had to pay a fee to put in the application. You are doing great work on the land you must be excusted up and down then having to do all that cutting. Just take care of yourself 💗
Thank you! I appreciate hearing that! I’m thinking I’ll hear from the council soon I hope! The fee was for the planning exemption cert, it wasn’t super expensive but annoying none the less!
The land looks great, such a big difference! The grant will come and it will all fall into place, this time next year the house will be fab and you will forget you were ever stressed.
I’m following another ‘Irish homestead’ channel and they got their property last year - they have a caravan on site they live in - very wet and windy winter - spent Christmas in caravan with ground saturated with water - they have done so much drainage work . This summer they have just started the roof and walls - but lots to do yet . I think they waited months for permits as well . Just a very long process .
The wait is so frustrating especially with the evenings drawing in quite quickly but hang in there and hopefully you will hear news quickly and at least get the heating in before winter so you can hunker down and look forward to a very different spring and summer in your lovely new home. As always, sending you the furriest hugs. ❤
The biggest hugs back to you both! The planning exemption has FINALLY come through and I’m hoping I’ll hear from the grant people now shortly! Fingers and toes crossed!! So much to be done but at least it means we’ll be moving in! ❤️
I thought maybe I might be able to switch and get the derelict grant but after talking to a builder today he said the wall is actually mostly ok, it does need fixing up in some places but he said it would be borderline derelict but hard to get over the line so I think I’ll stick to the vacancy only (I also don’t have anywhere close to 70k to spend 🥲)
Hi yes Morri does have a cherry eye, she’s had it about 4 years now (she’s 5). Sometimes it goes away for a day or 2 but always comes back. Her vet isn’t concerned on it and they check the health of her eye every year and make sure it isn’t dry etc if it ever starts to bother her or cause dryness etc we’ll look to get it surgically fixed but at the moment the vet isn’t recommending that :)
You are frustrated with the 'red tape' of it, sounds like. It's normal :). It will be worth it at the end. Just keep on doing the things you can, without money.
Unfortunately this is Ireland ,, it's ridiculous how long anything do do with the government takes ,, unless of course its the tax office looking for payments ,,add two months on to anything you do ,mand be prepared for them asking you for more information ,, hang in there 😊
Aisling I know from another YT channel who applied for the grant recently in Ireland, they were also told 4 weeks however it took 12 weeks in total for them to get theirs.
Christ that is some turn around…. Some CoCo seem really fast and others are a little slow I guess. I have fingers and toes crossed I’ll hear this weekn

Everything will be good it's work out for you guys still in my prayers 🙏🏻thanks you so much for sharing 💙
You’re right it will all work out in the end 💚 thank you for joining us and the kind words as always ❤️

Not the news we all want to hear about the grant but great update. You are getting lots and lots done and the grant will come through soon I know it.
Definitely not the news we want, but I have a good feeling it’s going to come soon I’m manifesting it 😂😂

ahhhh ais ,great least you gt it checked well done , now you you can carry on ,hey garden looks amazing welldone , nearer to the pond xx
Thank you so much! I always appreciate your kind comments ❤️❤️❤️
I would have to have screens on the windows. To keep kitty in and bugs out.
Yeah I know I like screens too but they aren’t common at all here in Ireland which is crazy to me!
You have to keep on top pf them. Ring them or call in every week so they recognise your face or your name. Nice floorboards.
I live about 2 hours away from the council so I can’t pop in but I will definitely be calling them Monday if there’s no word!

If it turns out the wall is NOT structurally sound... can you apply for the extra $$ derelict grant?
