Thanks for uploading! I’m a big fan of Norm, but in imo, he was a miscast. You can hear the painful strain when he tries the upper register. Since this wasn’t a physically demanding stage version, I really would’ve loved to see Andrea Bocelli do the part in this production Also, couldn’t they use a decent mask? Like cmon
I know everyone loves Norm, but my issue is, he should have been singing this stuff when he was in theirs vocal prime! 97’ Norm Lewis was fire, but the glottal attack.. ugh. He is too baritone for this
I don't disagree his voice used to be real powerhouse, but I think he's still capable of singing this score. The real problem is for both his original run of Phantom and for this run of LND he artificially darkens his tone, which causes all the glottal strain you correctly identified. But the difference between the way he sings Music of the Night in concert versus how he did in the show I think really demonstrates this.
It's comforting when you hear professionals mess up because it reminds us that they're only human too!
Love Norm! Bravo Sir.
AAHHHHHHH
Any vocal strain or whatever people are complaining about probably boils down to anxiety given he completely blanked on a whole verse
Did he really forget the lyrics for a full 10 seconds?
Hard to listen to very rough
Well he had less than a month to prepare, he’s just a human.
Tell me you've never done live theater without telling me you've never done live theater

Andrea Bocelli ??? I think he would sound more "straining" than Norm 😢
@@rhaczilla5141 uhhhh Bocelli is a tenor whose range goes all the way to Eflat5. He does not strain. Norm is a borderline bass-baritone.
@leonardowilson7709 , yes but his voice is kaput...
@@rhaczilla5141 that’s a load of crap. Bocelli is one of the finest singers in history. Are you high?

I've only heard 3 people sing this song... and he's comfortably my least favourite. Pity. I really wanted to like it. Ben Lewis still takes it for me.
