Every young man, every young woman needs to hear this interview. At 62, you make me want to do better, be better. I wish I'd thought like this or heard this when I was younger. It's ok though. I'm hearing it now and it inspires me to go back to school. What a legacy you are living and will leave. I'm sending this to both my sons to hear. I second that, frankly I feel like a proud mummy, I love to see wonderful, intelligent, God filled young men of colour, I was searching for a preaching when something happened at the church I attended just before Covid. I came across this young man who is my age 👀 and I haven't listened to another soul and don't need to can't wait to be able to visit that congregation, they are so blessed to have him.

That’s a great point Christopher. There is an academic side that needs to be shared to lead people, but that feeling can help bring the text alive and not leave it as dead ink on the paper.

This was so important. I follow his ministry for the reasons he’s listed, my biblical knowledge is growing and I’m being challenged. He isn’t afraid of tackling timely issues but builds his sermons in amazingly solid foundation. I earned a doctorate with a complicated job and that work was no joke! #respect

First let me say, Thank you! I’m from Oklahoma and I don’t get the chance to hear, personally, from men such as Dr. Thomas & Dr. Wesley. It’s so refreshing to encounter videos and sermons from you. I listened to the entire hour interview and I’m moved to want to pursue more about ministry and preaching even though I’m not one myself...lol...Maybe it’s even more about expanding my mind, exposing myself to more or God, or even just learning to build and value relationships. I am from Chicago and a friend of mine Mia Grant that attends his sister church Trinity suggested I subscribe to his shows. I watch his show every Sunday, Tuesday and some Saturdays. I really enjoy the word he brings on these days. Every time I watch I get blessed by what God gives him to feed His sheep with. As a pastor, Dr. Howard John Wesley is one of the most prolific and spiritually-guided expositors of the gospel of Christ that I listen to on a regular basis. This interview truly displayed the transparency of the minister from the "middle chair" (ie the pastor's seat). This interview is a blessing. I was a member of the BLVD while Dr. Thomas was pastor. His preaching is still embedded in my spirit. It's crazy how God works. I currently live in the DMV since moving from Memphis and have been church hunting. I have visited ASBC and been blown away each time. Seeing this interview give me confirmation that ASBC maybe the church for me. Thank you Dr. Thomas for your legacy building! I'm remembering to "do right in all relationships" and "just be happy anyway" (two of my favorite sermons).

Phenomenal interview on so many levels. It is inspiring for new generations of preachers to see the building of an institution that prepares seasoned preachers to become the scholars that God needs for this season. This motivates me to push towards achieving my PHD one day. I want to more than open the Bible and preach but to have the in-depth education along with the call.

I am always in awe and greatly appreciative, as a young minister, the amount of black males who are studying, and laboring in this thing called the Gospel ministry at such a high level. So many more men and women are pursuing higher degrees in the study of and in search of deeper understanding and meaning of whom our faith is in and then be able to attempt to live daily and by Gods grace point, by my living, someone to Christ.

As a proud member of St. Johns Congregational Church and one who was involved in the Installation Week for our new Pastor, I will say definitively that Howard John Wesley was absolutely invited to be a part of the Installation Ceremony and reported back that he had a schedule conflict. The original email invitation is still on file! Wesley was also in the area on another occasion and called the current Pastor to say he was going to come to our Revival at the time. Armour Bearers waited until 9pm and he never showed up, nor did he call back to say he wasn't going to make it. Wesley did however, return knowingly when our Pastor was out of town, to attend an event for a member being held at our Church. While there and our Pastor to say, "Hey Doc, I'm here in your Church!" Our current Pastor didn't even know he was coming, nor did HJW give him the courtesy of letting him know he was coming, until he got here. HJW has never reached out to us after declining our Installation invitation. There are always 1, 2 and even 3 sides to a story, but the truth is the truth. I don't usually respond to posts, but as a member of SJ, I'm offended at this reporting. Yes, members were hurt and sad to see him leave, but I don't recall all that I've heard during this interview. While I was sad to see him go, I was excited for him and his family of the new assignment God gave him. One thing one should never do, is believe what certain folks report back to you, when you aren't physically there to hear and see for yourself, as he has obviously been told some things that are not accurate. Pastor Wesley's picture is proudly displayed in our Legacy Sanctuary alongside all of our former Pastors, so I don't know who told him his picture wasn't displayed. He has NEVER been denied access to come back to St. John's, so I'm at a total loss as to why this is being said. To God be the Glory!
Good morning and as I listened to your comments as someone who is on the outside I think that he was probably missed informed about the photo so u should correct him on that by snapshot and let him see. 10 years is a lot of time and it's obvious that he loves you guys and you loves him too. I have listened to a few of his messages and my eyebrow was raised, well now I know what I thought I know. Please don't ask me to explain my thoughts to you.

Pastor Dr. Wesley, thank you for your transparency and clarity. While a lot of your words hold true, there was a foundational statement you stated that needs to re-evaluated. Please consider this. Based on your statement you made about the Bible, you make the bible subjective to the reader. You did not take the Bible as being 100% foundational to your preaching rather just the leading voice. Which is no longer at 90% when you started but now brought down to 60%. Will you like some preachers evolve into using your experience in place of the word of God? When does it stop or where do you draw the line?
Please, this is not an attack on you but rather things to strongly consider because it is affecting and guiding your church policy. People come to God's house, the Church to be edified by His word through the one He called. The work of Christ in us because another example that reflects him and not us. so sir, why did you during the discussion use the words "my gospels" in place of the Gospel we are called to preach?
Pastor, would it not have been better to say that the word of God is the lens, NO not the lens but the EYEs through which we see things in the world. Lenses can be replaced. like the eyes our mind should be Christ 2 Cor. 2:16 declares, We have the mind of Christ. This is only possible because of faith in Christ. Romans 10:17, says Faith comes through the word.
1 Corinthians 2:16 for, "Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
To the church, we must never stop being like the Bereans Acts 17:11.

I too am struggling with this perspective but as I've listened to him on the topic several times, I believe he's saying do not ostracized them, allow them to come as they are and let love prevail. Homosexuality sends the church into fits but yet they allow known fornicators, adulterers, molesters and the likes to participate and most often turn a blind eye. I do know that if we want them delivered the current way of damnation, mistreatment, and ridicule that the church does to them is not a good witness or effective. Jesus would approach it totally different. Jesus could have allowed the woman caught in adultery to be stoned according to the law but he showed grace and yes he told her don't continue it. Sexual sins are the greatest strongholds because its a sin against your own body. Pray for him that if he's going down the wrong path that the Holy Spirit will correct him.

@@traviousmitchell5601 I see it differently. God don't use PRACTISING sinners (I am including all types of sin). A church may use such a person to the detriment of the person and the church. A saved person (Christian) is not a practicing sinner but a person who has an advocate, Jesus Christ. Jesus addressed this point when He said "I NEVER knew you; Depart from me, ye that work iniquity". (Matt 723). The term "work iniquity" means practice iniquity. A Christian must feel guilty of sin and strive to change. If you practice sin, and don't feel guilty then I question if you are saved. Thanks
