P3Dv4 | GTX 960 vs 1080 | Is GPU important ?

- Опубликовано: 26 сен 2024
- I was thinking about upgrading my GTX 960 but i was in hesitation because I had read somewhere that it's too much for 1080p and i should take 1060 or 1070. In FSX and earlier P3D (32-bit) the GPU did not make big difference in perfomace (it was mostly about CPU) but since 64-bit P3Dv4 i felt my 960 was a weak thing in the system. Also i had watched many perfomance tests in video games but i hadn't found any comparisons for Prepar3D.
I decided to go with GTX 1080 anyway and i recorded this video because i hope this helps people who face the same problem as me :)
Overall, i am happy with my new GPU, in some moments it's even not enough and it's not overkill as some people said.
The big difference is that i can increase the settings without significant fps drop.

Started to cry when I saw 150FPS
How you get that verified thing if you have 157 subs
They are the best 157 subs in the world!
Hmmm
That's too bad that you don't have a GTX 1080
???
Finally, after just 12 years, we can play FSX (/P3D) smoothly!
Not with mods, haha
30fps is not smooth... 60+ are needed and if u fly a fighter jet, than even 60 is not enough at groundlevel. Stop spreading stupid lies based on wrong understanding. 25fps in a movie are not the same. First: the time between each frame is the same (a GPU can't do that) Second: natural motion blur...
If you have a spare couple of grand... haha
it was just a joke lol why are you so toxic
Spkier no, that’s wrong. Even your monitor is 60hz, you get FPS larger than 60, your mouse will moving smoother, decrease the lagging
Thanks for the comparison, it’s helped change my mind 😉
When you buy a used gtx 960, but realize you'll get extremely low frames 😭🔫
Wow that is insane!!! Never would have thought that the difference between the two is so great! Thanks!
GTX 580 still going strong! Get similar FPS to the 960 it seems
Yeah, you're certainly right about what you've written in the description of the video. The CPU doesn't matter anymore when it comes to 64-bit sims. Now it's all about the graphics as the developers of texture companies (for example REX, Orbx and so on) are taking the advantage of the architecture now implemented in the new version of Prepar3d and also XP 11. And you're right about the quantity of GPU tests for P3D on YT.
Very interesting video, am currently using FSX with an I7 4770k 4ghz and a GTX 970, am thinking about going the P3d route and initially though a 1070 would do the job now after watching this i am not so sure.
I'd been a loyal Microsoft Flight Simulator customer since the 1980's, but it's time to move on from FSX and it's derivatives. X-Plane 11 is the future. There are plenty of pros and cons to each right now but XP11 is where the community and 3rd party support are headed. You won't be disappointed if you make the change.
Nice to see a "real world" comparison of the 2 cards. It seems to 1080 often runs hotter than the 960, but the overall better performance and eye candy is worth the heat, ha ha. As someone else has noted: 12 years and now we can FINALLY see everything as it was originally "intended"...
Kills me to know i cant even get a pc half the specs of yours 😞
Because of this video I finally changed from FSX to P3Dv4, sucks to rebuy many many addons, but the performance is absolutely outstanding and the amount of autogen is just crazy so thanks! I can finally fly properly now
You should see the autogen in xplane 11.It more superior and much more life like,3d
I upgraded from 2x 980 Ti in SLI to one GTX 1080 Ti OC 11 GB and I noticed a difference as well.
Awesome comparison!
Awesome video. And great cut. Never exspect that you need that power
Insane!
160FPS at Cruise holy shit!
Honestly, all in all, i can be quit satisfied with my GTX 960 OC.
……gtx 960 can do nothing now...just ordered 3060ti
thanks for the video, i know what my next graphics card is gonna be :)
Depends. Xplane is very CPU heavy FSX is GPU heavy.
Thanks for the video mate, I think Im gonna stick with my 1060 for now but I'm planning to upgrade to an i7 8700 from my puny low end i5 6402p! Im actually surprised how well my cpu does in simming but Im hoping the i7 can improve the frames just a bit.
Also did you have other programs running in the background? That RAM Usage is crazy, idek how Im still surviving with only 8gigs to this day.
@ Wouldnt the 8700 i7 be even better at sims than the i5 8600???
@@donc9751 yeah sure but then it's not worth the extra money that you put in..... like a i5 is for 200 and i7 is 400 and performance is just 12percent faster
The Gaming Broz s i use i5 8600k and gigabyte gtx1080 mine runs perfect for me
I have the 1080 with i7700k and I can assure you, P3Dv4 on max settings is a beautiful thing...
Thanks for this comparison! Personally i am gonna buy a 1070 and it will run together with an i5 6500 @ 3.2 GHz. Hopefully i can achieve similar frames but not at max settings but close to them :D
Well the 960 isn't really a real videocard. I used to have years ago a 780 Ti and I am sure even that was better than the 960. Every game is GPU bound up to a certain extent. If you use a potato on any game your FPS will be affected regardless of how CPU bound the game can be. "Bound" only means the technology of the moment on every product is far superior to the recommended requirements for a part (i.e CPU or GPU). This video is a great video showing that no matter what don't use a potato.
I have a question for you friend. I checked that I7 7700K only works with a top of memory of 2400 mhz, and I can see you using a 3200 mhz, is this correct? because your processor only can handle 2400 mhz?
Thats only recommended speed spec :) I run 3200mhz ram on my 8600k and no issues :)
What a great video as usual!
Thanks for the comparison, really cool!
I have the 1060 with a very weak AMD 4300 cpu. You convinced me with these videos to upgrade to the i-7. Do you mine sharing your ez dok settings?
Alright, how can i share it ?
max737Ifly I was hoping you knew. I will figure it out and get back to you.
max737Ifly just export them. To a .ezdok file
S Peterson that makes no sense. You didn’t even think about AMD Ryzen CPU’s? Oh well it’s your money.
You share your settings by uninstalling ezdok and installing chaseplane :)
Especially for DL, 1080 helps. I had GTX 980SC and my 1080Ti made a difference. I am waiting now for the new 1180 Ti.
I almost like the 960 more because the frame rate is a lot less variable compared to the 1080 which had 40 inside and 150 outside
It doesn't really matter because screen refresh rate is still limited (usually 60 hz if you didn't pay for more), so you would prefer keep as close to that as possible or higher (or turn on vertical sync and lock it at maximum 60 fps)
Can anyone make a video of Prepar3d running on win10pro AMD RX-580 8GB 32 GB RAM ROG STRIX X-470-F 2X 1TB SSD'S RYZEN 7 27OOX OC MASTER COOLER 240 LIQUID DUAL PUMP AND 8 240 FANS IN A GLASS CASE WITH A VIZIO 50 INCH 4K LED TV ALL ORBX PRODUCTS ACTIVE SKY CARENADO AND ALABEO AIRCRAFT TRACK-IR GETTING AT LEAST 60FPS. THANK YOU WAITING TO SEE ONE ON RUclips.
Hi, amazing video. Just wondering if you are using some tweaks and if you are using a 60hz screen or a 30hz screen. Have a lovely day!
Photo By Batuhan Thanks! I use 60hz monitor and I did not apply any tweaks for more clean test (my p3d.cfg and inspector were all default)
Lovely, Thanks for a quick answer and keep going with the great work of yours! Best Regards!
BTW, how can 30FPS be so smooth to you xD
Photo By Batuhan that's fine, it doesn't slow the gameplay. After years when I could get 10-20 fps in some scenes 30 fps looks ok. It's the minimum we always tried to achieve
I just went from a gtx780 to a gtx1070 its made a massive difference on X plane 11.
Nice comparison. I am before the same question but I own a 1070GTX.
At 3440*1440 she is on the limit. Especially with DL and SSAA.
So I think it’s maybe not enough improvement to go ONLY for 1080ti?
But 2080/2080ti are so expensive...
BTW, I get a 2080ti. In every GPU bounded scenario it is so much more raw power and improvement.
The only think what limited now, is the CPU at CPU bounded scenarios 😅
Fantastic Video, thx.
Great video !!
I’m going to buy a brand new computer for FSX / P3D
Do you think GTX 9XX are enough or I must take a 10XX ?? Thanks for answers :p
9XX are perfect for those "youtube looks", I run a 980ti and don't see myself changing anything for a long time
Awesome vid, man!
How many gb does your gtx 1080 have?
Thanks!
Andreas Frost Thanks! 1080 is 8GB and 960 is 2GB
max737Ifly Thanks man!
Have a good one🤙🏽
How are you getting such good good FPS with the high cloud cover? I also have i7 and gtx 1080 but clouds really kill my fps.
That was FSX?!? Holly shit the mod for that looks amazing. how are you getting above 30fps since the entire game is 32bit.
This Prepar3D v4 (updated version based on FSX). It's 64 bit (I mentioned that in description)
i have the 1080 and let me say it works like a charm
got a mega system doing xplane 10 (got xplane 11 waiting, dont under stand the fms in airliners) over clocked i7, twin 16ghz water cooled SSD, 3 TP mem, blah blah.. gpu 980... rang Scan who built it for me and they said I wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the 980 and 1080 so dont waste my money on upgrade! thumbs up for those guys..
Won't tell the difference between 980 and 1080? We're they on drugs or something? They'd likely say the same about the 1070 and rtx 2070...they have no idea what they are on about!
Awesome comparison btw whats your night light setting? mind if you share yours?
Thanks! What do you mean by night light settings ?
3:22 , is that from orbx light setting or ?
There are no settings there, it's just an addon that changed lights (ORBX OpenLC). And i also use Global and Vector (not sure if they change light texture)
Upgraded to a 8600k 3 months ago. Noe going for a 1070ti, since the difference is about 350€😩
For those of you watching this, keep in mind that during the comparisons, the GTX1080 isn’t even running at full capacity in some scenarios, meaning performance could be even better than shown here.
Been looking at GPUs for weeks now in anticipation for the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator and I’m convinced on getting a high end GPU, while budgeting for a decent CPU, RAM etc.
If anyone would like to convince me to purchase something other than the 2070 Super, feel free :) (I am still waiting as long as possible for new products to release)
Of course, 2 years ago you made this comment, it's hugely redundant for me to speak to you personally now, but anyone still building a PC for MSFS or any other flight sim for that matter should bear in mind that GPU is NOT the be all end all in flight simming like it tends to be in other types of gaming. The CPU really does matter.
Based on all kinds of factors, you can get a performance boost not too far off what you should expect from improving your GPU to the next tier-or-two up. Your mileage may vary, but I have definitely found this to be the case, from even a relatively insignificant single-generation leap from a Ryzen 3600 to a Ryzen 5600X.
Spend the little bit extra to get a reasonable CPU also. Don't put *ALL* your cash into the GPU. Not in flight simming.
As for RealSimProductions, I don't know what your GPU situation is these days, but the next-gen GPUs are months away. Nvidia will be putting out very powerful, but *VERY power-demanding* cards. The top model Nvidia 4000 series looks to pretty much guarantee you will also be getting a new PSU, almost whatever PSU you currently own. I've heard numbers like 600 watts for their top-end gaming card. Ridiculous numbers. The heat these things will put out in your room will be on par with portable heaters.
Of course, the performance will be incredible. Perhaps even beginning to get serious for multiscreen users even at 4k, perhaps even 8k on a single screen. The lower end cards like the 4070 can expect to be pushing around what today's 3090 is doing just like my 3070 is around what the 2080Ti was capable of.
If you look to AMD, their GPUs will be significantly less power-hungry I suspect, and I predict just as capable as Nvidia if not moreso where basic rasterization is concerned. AMD has really improved their Radeon division in recent times. I don't know how well they will do versus Nvidia on raytracing (coming to MSFS at some point), and where the DLSS (now in beta in MSFS) battle is concerned, Nvidia will win that battle with some ease I would think. Their upscaling tech is just better than AMDs is.
With Nvidia's lack of respect for power draw, I will be going with AMD for the first time with my next GPU whenever that is, unless Nvidia's lower-end SKUs reel in that power draw significantly.
According to your video, I understand that the GPU was the major reason for performance change. Do you believe that running a GTX1080 with a Ryzen 7 I can get same results? Thanks for the great video!
I would hope to shout! Buy FFTF Dynamic for prepar3d v4 and never look back. you will love the frames that you get from the software!
Great as usual ..
Watching this video inside my FFAA30 U with RTX 2080 ti lmao
shut up chump
then , what made you watch this video ?
@@alphatango831 What this dude doesn't realise is...THere are people with dual rtx titan setupus haha...Not me of course, As I'm a poor peasant haha.
wow we need more videos like this no one is testing options on flight simulators do you have a comparison for x-plane 11 ?
alexmatraka Thanks! No, because I couldn't properly run x-plane on 960. I had good fps on low settings only, on higher settings I was getting 7 fps everywhere
Nice comparisson. Wich software you use to see fps, cpu%...? Thanks
Thanks! It's MSI Afterburner
I'm dropping down to 1k and raising everything else up, mwahahahhahaa, didnt realise 1024x1024 meant 1k
Great video nicely done, I have Gtx 980ti 6gb would it be worth switching over to a Gtx 1080ti?
What overlay software are you using to display the data from CPU and GPU?
Do you mind sharing your p3dv4 config for comparison, thanks in advance?
not really I will recommend you stay with your 980ti cause you can still get very good performance
Can someone help me please, I have 3700X and a 2070 súper and I am not getting 40 FPS at virtual cockpit when I’m on ground :((
Either way they both achieve more FPS then I do.
What camera mod do you use to get the realistic head movement?
what version of P3d are you using in this video....Here from the year 2020 and P3Dv4.5 is not good in VR with PMDG 777 and an i7 cpu with a 1080card
Oh well..Finnaly we got the 64bit and want to push the game to it's max...but wait...NTDLL.dll error....
Well...
I don’t se any diffrends
Most games need a decent GPU. Well, apart from FSX. That runs off CPU graphics...
People who want to reassure themselves and not feel like they aren't the only bastards will always try and justify their stagnation by trying to convince others that they shouldn't get better. GPU upgrade is always a good thing. Yes! That rehashed, and rehashed and rehashed FSX may be like FSX where CPU is more important, but you will still gain from a better GPU. No point in having a great CPU if it's going to be held back. Plus the base game requirements are different than heavily modded version. If you start introducing clouds, 4k textures, scenery... then the recommended specs just changed. Even more Ai may be calculated by CPU, but your GPU still needs to render those planes. So a better GPU will help especially in that poorly optimized rehash.
Can I play this game in my computer?
GTX 960
i7 core
8 ram ?
Yeah of course
@@narayastudios558 Depends which I7 he speaks of :P as there are mant I7's
U gotta turn dynamic reflections to high and install tomato shade.. It is worth the 10 to 15 fps drop.. Which your gtx 1080 can handle easily..
Just to be sure, you're using the 1080 not the 1080i, correct? I'm having a new high end system built, and am getting the 1080i, since NVIDIA won't be releasing to 2080i, or whatever they decide to call it, for quite a while yet.
whtfsh765 if you mean 1080 ti, then no I have a regular 1080
How much does it cost to make FSX look and run like that? Cost of all mods combined?
How to create the game this graphics? Looks like soooo realistic
What should I get? 1060 or 1050ti?
Gtx 970, i5 6400 and 8GB of ram. How would this fair?
Nice video! Does any know if my i7 10th_gen, 16gb ram, 1TSSD & 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX350 Graphic Card run P3Dv4???
not bad 960 worth the 85 € shipped i paid for it.
I have a GTX 960 and I get WAAAYYY better performance than that.
Pinncom2016 I have a 960 2 gb and I have waaaay worst performances than that xD
Johan G.Bruère-Dawson That make sense. My version has 4 Gb of VRAM. Anything over 4 will give you better performance. I still bottleneck because it's too weak for the CPU but with some testing and configuration I manage to stay at 50-60 fps. I would love to have a 1080ti soon for both P3D and XPlane.
that is because you overclocked it
Hi Champion it's not overclocked. I just was able to configure my sim according to the capability of the GPU. P3d uses more resources from your CPU than GPU because of it's old ESP platform. A 1080ti is overkill in some cases.
I have 50fps on 960:p
Almost forgot all parameters at full like I have mine.
NICE ;)
I really wish I didn't get sick of lower fps (45 and down) I'd love to run it at high graphics
If you are playing Prepar3d Flight Simulator... you're fine with the 960.
If you are playing Used-to-be Microsoft-but-not-anymore animated wallpaper/youtube camera suite simulator... you'll need the 1080. XD
Please make a video on x plane 11 with graphics card and without graphic card and what else we need to play x plane 11 on pc i need to buy that all
We need Vulkan ! ( then the CPU can use more cores to recieve data from the GPU )
I have a I7-3770K 3.5 GHZ, GTX 1060 6 GB, would i do ok in p3d?
انا عندي GTX TITANX 12 GB
والفريمات م تتعدا ٢٠ شسالفه
Looks like a benchmark video...
Its a simulator full of physis and flight controls so its a CPU dependent game. Plz compare an old CPU with new on GTX 960 card
While it's historically true that CPU was the most likely bottleneck in a flight sim, they're much, much more graphically intensive than they used to be. It's always risky to generalize, but if you're running a mid-range desktop CPU from the last couple of generations (multicore, 3.5+Ghz) then you should be fine calculating the current flight sim physics requirements. Most of the performance issues on the current flight sims (P3Dv4, XP11, DCS2.5) are traced back to RAM and/or GPU limitations.
It's cpu dependent and also coded for last decade single/two core cpu's, it's shit and it has to be dropped. If only people stopped throwing money at the screen.
@@Galf506 I'm just looking at getting back into flight sims, and which sim to buy, your comment about P3D makes me think if it is based more on CPU power than GPU, I would be better off buying a different flight sim?
Yes, Xplane 11. It's still really slow and heavy (but all sims except DCS are pretty much) but at least it's much more accurate.
@@Galf506 x plane looks like a shit stain next to p3d. And if you're looking for accuracy, buy quality aircraft. PMDG, QualityWings, Majestic, VRS. Etc. Don't go with x plane 11 unless you want blurred graphics with shit control responses.
Best Gtx 1080!
I have 1050 ti with i7 and 16 gb ram will i get good fps?
These flight sims use old code that doesn’t use gpu and cpu to
It’s full potential
im lucky i have rx 570 :D
So wich one is BETTER??

Can I also run it with a 1050 ti
this is th same processor.reember the coding for p3d is processor bound so not too much of a difference
Gigabyte GTX 1080?
Do you think an rtx2080 will perform better or same or how many fps??? please someone help me
rtx 2070 super is very close performance to an rtx2080 in many game the difference is 3 - 7 fps.
and £200 between them!
Wait for 9700 and 9900k
; ) Good !
Is this 1080p? Or 4K or 2k
im satisfied with gtx 1050
i do not high quality game
oh so thats why my p3d is so slow lol I just realised
your cpu is working %30 30fps normal :D
P3Dv4 Recommended Graphics Card Video Memory is 8 GB. Maybe better would be an GTX 1080TI with 11GB
Almost every flight sim software needs at least 6-8gb of vram but I managed to get away with 4gb of vram
So I can just buy a 1060 to make my comp run smoothly??
Viveks gaming, of course! I have 1060 and I have no problems!!!
