    Normally enjoy both these players but Filus was out of order. He had 2 outrageous edges and an impossible net chord. The luck was on his side but his behaviour was anything but sportsmanlike.

      I was going to make a similar comment. He was the one with the lucky shots, still he was the one who lost his temper. If he lost, it was due to his mistakes and Quadri's hard work, he was going all out on the last game even when he was losing 1-5 at some point, he never gave up.

      Back in the days when I was a professional table tennis player in a 3rd world country during 80's, nobody could've had a similar behavior as Filus when lost his temper because Table tennis blade and rubbers were so expensive and you wouldn't risk breaking it, 99% of the players only own one racket. After I moved to the states in early 2000's, I was able In 1 year to buy 5 different blade/rubbers combo just to try them on.

      Come on, everybody wants emotions and bad guys and if you get some... He was not rude to anyone, neither Aruna, not the referees.
      It is difficult to stay in the team as a defender in this plastic balls era and he really risked everything to win this match - some spectacular winners and edges but also way too many mistakes. It is always difficult as a defender to find the right balace between attacking and defending and being pumped up but not overdoing it. A minor punishment will do, the prize money it table tennis is peanuts...

      I totally feel what Ruwen felt. This ABS plastic ball doesn't agree with long pips and defensive style.
      I play quite often and I can relate to all those serves with pips that went to the net, easy shots that just don't bounce back, heavy underspin that just is not that heavy anymore, racket edges after stupidly unpredictable bounce etc, I could go on forever

    Filus is a very self-confident type. He seems to think that he is the best and cannot lose to an athlete from Africa. I'm ashamed of his behavior. The referee must take measures to prevent Filus from participating in new games. And there should still be a fine so that you don’t behave like a pig...

    Feel bad for my favourite defender of current time. He definitely has much more varied skill than Aruna and ironically has a better backhand than a so-called attacker. I know it was frustrating to lose such a close match, but still he should have controlled his temper at the end. I have noticed many German players (him, Steger, Mengel) have this anger issue.

      @@HrFZ1 I think there may actually be some deep truth in that about the German psyche - and this coming from a German Canadian. But Filus is really the absolute nicest guy normally. He unfortunately just exploded this time. Ayayay!

      @@eric3650 I said “varied skills”, like FH and BH topspin, BH chop, BH flat hit, lobbing and most importantly twiddling during a rally. On the other hand, Arun excels in only one aspect - FH power.

    • @inyourface123
      @inyourface123 Год назад

      @@eric3650 in this match, Filus defeated himself by trying to be more aggressive and missing serve at crucial moment. But in terms of “variety of skills”, I still maintain that he is superior to Aruna. Notice I didn’t say he is necessarily a better player. Defenders have been severely limited after the intro of 40+ plastic ball anyway (Joo himself said this). I am at least glad Filus is carrying the modern defender’s legacy.
