I was going to make a similar comment. He was the one with the lucky shots, still he was the one who lost his temper. If he lost, it was due to his mistakes and Quadri's hard work, he was going all out on the last game even when he was losing 1-5 at some point, he never gave up.
Back in the days when I was a professional table tennis player in a 3rd world country during 80's, nobody could've had a similar behavior as Filus when lost his temper because Table tennis blade and rubbers were so expensive and you wouldn't risk breaking it, 99% of the players only own one racket. After I moved to the states in early 2000's, I was able In 1 year to buy 5 different blade/rubbers combo just to try them on.

A tournament is just a particular moment in time. It's no big deal to lose the match. Be gentleman and Ruwen is still a good player to entertain the table tennis fans.BTW, congratulation to Aruna for his spirit of a sportsman.

Filus is a fantastic defender but his last throw is totally non acceptable, he should be banned for month and pay big penalty. He is a Professional and he must show example....I'm really deceived...
On the one hand it is nice to see that the professionals struggle the same way like amateurs, mentally. However, as a German I feel my country is very poorly represented by Ruwen Filus. I wonder what kind of punishment he will receive from Jörg Rosskopf (his coach in the back), the WTT, and the DTTB.

Come on, everybody wants emotions and bad guys and if you get some... He was not rude to anyone, neither Aruna, not the referees. It is difficult to stay in the team as a defender in this plastic balls era and he really risked everything to win this match - some spectacular winners and edges but also way too many mistakes. It is always difficult as a defender to find the right balace between attacking and defending and being pumped up but not overdoing it. A minor punishment will do, the prize money it table tennis is peanuts...

Interesting match with an incredibly high percentage of unforced errors on both ends. Obviously the circumstances are somehow difficult. Does anyone know which balls are being used? Strange decider with Ruwen being up 5:1 and trailing 7:10. Very weired. But an nice watch.
It's not the balls being used, it's the rubber that Filus is using. He plays with long pips and that causes unforced errors for both players because the long pips affects the spin so much in very unpredictable and uncontrollable ways. It was a well earned win by Aruna.
Panagiotis Gionis is the only defender I respect, always a good behavior, always respecting both the opponent and the referees. Today I've seen De Saintilan nerves cracking when he was winning 3 games to 1 vs félix Lebrun in the french nationals... guess what ? he lost 3 games to 4, some defenders can't understand it's not as easy as it seems with their strategies to win with a clean sheet, most of them think it's over when they're the first at 9... a game is won at 11 guys...
You guys should read Larry Hodges article on net/edge ball topic to understand why it has nothing to do with pips out rubber. Show me another match where Filus got so many lucky points. One player who is known to have got more lucky balls consistently is Timo Boll, but then people attribute it to his good karma. Why blame the pips in Filus’ case when most of his edge balls were from lobs?
I totally feel what Ruwen felt. This ABS plastic ball doesn't agree with long pips and defensive style. I play quite often and I can relate to all those serves with pips that went to the net, easy shots that just don't bounce back, heavy underspin that just is not that heavy anymore, racket edges after stupidly unpredictable bounce etc, I could go on forever
Filus is a very self-confident type. He seems to think that he is the best and cannot lose to an athlete from Africa. I'm ashamed of his behavior. The referee must take measures to prevent Filus from participating in new games. And there should still be a fine so that you don’t behave like a pig...
Feel bad for my favourite defender of current time. He definitely has much more varied skill than Aruna and ironically has a better backhand than a so-called attacker. I know it was frustrating to lose such a close match, but still he should have controlled his temper at the end. I have noticed many German players (him, Steger, Mengel) have this anger issue.

But in terms of “variety of skills”, I still maintain that he is superior to Aruna. Notice I didn’t say he is necessarily a better player. Defenders have been severely limited after the intro of 40+ plastic ball anyway (Joo himself said this). I am at least glad Filus is carrying the modern defender’s legacy.
