The Brett in question is her ex Brett Emmons of tge band the glorious sons. I heard Jordan Miller, singer of the beaches talk about this song on an interview on the local indie station say that this song came about after the break up she had dates with this other guy who told her he loved her after 3 dates which she wasn't ready for. She wanted to write a song that put her in the bad guy position apologizing in advance but with a little joke hey don't blame me blame my ex
Man, if only you knew, this song is played out on Canadian radio already, not sure if you guys are hearing it in the USA but I think it's on both charts currently. Anyway it really is a great tune. I work at a station myself and I have played it many times since it's release
