Very enjoyable reaction! Malinchista refers to "La Malinche" who was a woman who betrayed her people and helped with the Spanish invasion that conquered the Aztecs in the 1500's. Today it is a derogatory term used to mean "cultural traitor" which is what the local critics were accusing The Warning of being since up to that point, they had only produced songs in English, and it was seen by some as them turning their backs on their culture (which is totally the opposite btw. They promote their Mexican heritage and fellow musicians at every chance they get). So they wrote their first song in Spanish, to make sure the critics could clearly understand the message that was basically giving them the middle finger. It's an amazing song and one of my very favorite TW songs. I don't understand much of it, but you definitely still understand the emotions it conveys!

Besides, historically, Malinche was never a traitor. She was neither Mexica nor Aztec; she was Mayan, so she couldn’t be a traitor (Aztecs were not her people). So it's a funny/complicated term because it was misconceived from the beginning, and today it is still a term used to attack those not “patriotic” in the most irational way (just see the recent case of Yahritza y su esencia).

Maybe "traitor" was a harsh word. The meaning we are looking for is: "a person who prefers the things of other countries to their own". The extreme oposite to xenophobic.

There are 2 holy grails for TWA when it comes to live performances: 1. Ale singing lead. If you happen to be at a show when that happens you're a very lucky individual. 2. When Pau is unleashed from her drum kit. That made this a very special version of this song. Plus they asked her mentor to sit in for her on drums. Then there's the song itself. One of only 2 they've created in Spanish and a fan favorite. Written as a response to their critics to calling them traitors for writing their songs in English. One of the best rebuttal songs ever created. Subscribed.

Seeing Paulina on the stage running around singing instead of beating the crap out of her kit, is a special sight. Extremely rare, and she has only done it a handful of times for this song. This is my favorite of them. She is just so jacked up from the crowds energy, her feedback to them is infectious, and can't help us feel anything but happy for her. 5 ft stick of Ka-Pau! 🧨💥

This is one their realest and most heartfelt songs, aimed at those who accused them of being traitors to their people for singing only in English. Malinchista is an ugly slur in Mexico, in reference to La Malinche, who betrayed her people and assisted the Spanish conquest of The Aztec Empire.
This was the bands first song in their native language, and was released all on its own as a single, rather than wait for an album. The debut performance of it is amazing, to their hometown crowd at Foro Didi (on their channel). Pau gives an electric performance from behind the kit.
Pau was 17 when she wrote this song, in defense of herself and her family. It's a highwater mark for her and the band imo. Pau is fearless. I love this song, and the Foro Didi performance in particular.

Three sisters from Monterrey, MX. They started in 2012. They became The Warning in 2013. Today they are Dany, guitarrist 23, Pau, drummer 21, and Ale, bassist 18.
In 2022 they did over 100 gigs in North and South America along with Foo fighters, Halestorm, the Pretty Reckless, Three Days Grace, and Guns ‘n Roses. Earlier this year they did four shows with Muse in Mexico and finished 18 shows on the first US leg of their world tour. They then did concerts throughout Europe including opening for Muse five times in the UK and France. Many of these had 30-60 thousand fans in attendance. They recently completed the second leg of their US tour, played at the MTV VMAs, and opened for Guns N’ Roses. They have shows planned in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina, for the Fall. In February of 2024 they will play Shiprock, a rock cruise, and in August 2024 they will play the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany.
All three are classically trained pianists and Dany & Ale can play sax. All three sing lead and background vocals; but Dany is the principal singer. They were inspired by the video game Rock Band and two of their songs are available on Rock Band IV. They appeared on the Ellen Show in 2015.
They are fully bilingual as they attended a bilingual Catholic school in Monterrey, Liceo de Monterrey. But later they all graduated high school through home schooling due to their touring schedule. They attended Berklee College of Music Summer Program in Boston in 2015.
They started as a cover band. Their cover of Enter Sandman launched their career. They now have 47 original songs in an EP, three albums, and two singles. No bad songs. Their newest single, More, was released May 12th. They have a rich collection of live videos, music videos and lyric videos on their channel. There are also vlogs and individual performances. Any video from the August 2022 concert at the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City is gold!
When not performing they are humble down to earth individuals. Dany is a goofball and sweetheart, Pau talks with passion like a machine gun, and Ale is an introvert and a perfectionist.
When you fall down The Warning rabbit hole, you can’t go back!!

Fortunately they are hitting harder than some male bands and carelessly helping each other. Thanks God or rather thanks for the female attitude to change that.

Many say that malinchista means "cultural traitor", I don't agree with it, I don't like the word "traitor" in this context, that sounds so strong to me. A malichista is someone who shows a preference for foreign stuff (products , customs or ideas over their own country's). If there is a soccer match between Mexico and Germany and a Mexican roots for Germany, I could consider him/her a "malinchista" because even though Germany may be a better team, they should support Mexico. However, they are not a traitor. Another example is someone who only buys clothes made abroad because they consider them to be of better quality. They could be considered a "malinchista" because in Mexico we have domestically made clothes of very good quality, even if they are not globally recognized brands. Of course, everything I say is just my opinion; it doesn't mean that everyone thinks the same way. For instance, The Warning is often asked why they sing in English, which is a valid question. Some might consider them "malinchistas," but many ask the question without any prejudice.

While it is a shame that they get targeted by the media in MX for singing many songs in English, what you will learn about these girls is that they are fierce and these kinds of discriminations will only strengthen their resolve and push them even harder. While the music is excellent, it's not the only reason they are blowing up right now, it's also because of the girls themselves; they are a force to be reckoned with on all levels. DPA/TW have guest musicians join them on stage for a song from time to time... in this case the guest drummer, Beto Ramos, is one of Pau's drum coaches... Beto was also the sound mixer and sound master for this concert... some other guest musicians have been Pliego Villarreal (no relation to DPA but they do call him cousin), Pablo González Sarre (Ale's bass coach and band mentor), Arejay Hale (Halestorm drummer), and Barry Stock (Three Days Grace lead guitar)... DPA/TW have also shared the stage with other bands like Moderatto (an '80s glam metal parody band) and Eruca Sativa (Argentine alternative rock band)...

This song is amazing and basically an anthem for the Latin community! This song was directed at a singular local media outlet who just doesn’t stop spewing nonsense and that Malinchistas remark was the last straw! I don’t remember if it was a Monterrey or CDMX outlet so I won’t name since I’m not 100% sure. But most media in Mexico are extremely supportive of the warning as well as other Mexican rock bands liking the warning. Since everywhere they go they always show and say how Orgullosamente Mexicanas (proud of being Mexican) they are by always talking about Mexico the culture the food the music and always say they miss being in Mexico when they’re away they even have a mini concert on RUclips inspired by Day of The Dead on Tidal. They recently clarified that Narcisista it wasn’t like an FU to them more stating for the last time how it is and how they feel about it and those comments, and no matter what they say they’ll never turn their back on the culture! And that they can either accept that or leave it alone 🫡🤟🏼⚡️⚡️⚡️🇲🇽

    Hi Roni! New sub here!
Malinchista is a Mexican term meaning to be a cultural traitor. Someone who prefers things from other countries over Mexican things. The word comes from an Aztec woman who helped the Spanish in their conquest of the Aztecs.
    La Malinche
Marina [maˈɾina] or Malintzin [maˈlintsin] ( c. 1500 - c. 1529), more popularly known as La Malinche [la maˈlintʃe], a Nahua woman from the Mexican Gulf Coast, became known for contributing to the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire (1519-1521), by acting as an interpreter, advisor, and intermediary for the Spanish

@@ronireacts_to_all I work in a very niche area of tech. You'd be surprised how often the simplest things mess me up as I over think them. Most days I can develop a hatred of computers.
As those who know me well say...I'm good at the things people are bad at. Unfortunately, the opposite can also be true..I can struggle with things others are good at....like happiness.
To do my job well, I constantly see problems and try to fix them. That sounds good until you realize everywhere I look my mind is wired that way. Works great for tech...machines...not people. Very hard to 'turn off'.
That's what I really value about you Roni. While it may seem insignificant, you just being you, for someone like me who swims in a sea of problems, your honest, quirky, kindness and positive energy are huge. A welcomed lifeline to help anchor me to my humanity which left on it's own would be in short supply.
So that's the primary reason I watch (if you've ever wondered why people subscribe to you vs others). Not sure what motivates you to do what you do but I'm glad you do it. You're my unofficial humanity mentor. 🙂

(There’s the old saying that “women don’t engage in battles, they go to war,” seems like it could have been written about that dark side of Pau’s extraordinary personality. One of my favorite Pau pieces is in their official release of ‘Enter Sandman’ with Elisia Cara when Pau recites the poem. It is just so fucking cool.)

How many 16 year olds have the guts to stand up to her critics & tell them to shut up instead of cowering away? Fed up with constant barrage from a section of the Mexican press about why they only sing in English, Pau wrote this acerbic riposte. The girls then presented the 1st draft to their mom for grammatical check in Spanish. Legend has it that Mony asked them to tone down the vitriol as she was afraid of the backlash her daughters might receive.
However you can see the viciousness in Pau's presentation when The Warning debuted Narcisista at Foro in 2019 - aged 19, 17 & 14 (English captions added by a kind soul for us non-Spanish speakers).
    ruclips.net/video/6Ay4RqhQB0I/видео.html&ab_channel=RandomMusic%40TheWarning
You can see how they displayed the lyrics on a screen to vent their anger.
You can see how Pau used her left hand to gesticulate theatrically to emphasise
"Porque tú, no sabes nada Because you don't know anything
Corres la voz y no te callas You run your mouth and don't shut up
Me tapo los oídos y simplemente digo I cover my ears and just say"
Cherry on the cake is when she rubs it in with "No soy loca ni Malinchista" or Neither am I mad nor Malinchista. Malinche was an Aztec (Nahua) woman who helped the Spanish conquerors in taking control of Mexico some 5 centuries back. Hence the term Malinchista for a woman who prefers foreign people, culture, goods, etc. over her own roots. A cultural turncoat if you like.
Ahh...the delicious irony of time when on 16th June 2023 some 500 Spaniards joined Pau & her sisters to sing Narcisista and exactly those words for the 1st time in Madrid.
The conquered have become the conqueror now.

Malinchista (not a Spanish word) 100 Mexican) _ is used for people who are considered a culture trader, example : if you are Mexican and say " Wow I really enjoyed the Mexico city tour and the historic center and the food was great" and your friend says well Italy is better" thats a Malinchista a sell out who prefers other culture to their own, in this case was because 98% of their music is in English and a certain sector complaint of why they don't sing in spanish. But Historically if you are called a malinchista it's no small thing. But anyways I love the Warning singing Rock as its meant to be , I don't hear the Scorpions in the 80's Singing in German with Accordians , Rock is Rock and its international in any language!
