This could be a relatively new concept for you, but I implore you to embrace silence as your ally. If you have been in a situation where you've reached out to them, pleaded with them, or even begged for them to come back, now is the perfect time to employ the power of silence.
When you choose to remain silent, you essentially cut off their supply - the attention they crave. This absence leaves them in a state of uncertainty. They are left questioning, guessing, and wondering about your thoughts and actions. It's important to remember that narcissists are inherently possessive individuals. They often struggle to comprehend the motives behind your actions. They may not even understand how you could love them so deeply. Hence, it is advisable to let them dwell in this silence.
Be silent and cut off their supply. This approach is not only effective but also one of the most potent strategies you can use. It forces them to introspect, albeit from a self-centered perspective, not like an ordinary person would.
As a result of this enforced introspection, they are likely to begin questioning everything. They might become increasingly toxic to those in their vicinity. They may even start to blame others for their predicament.
For those who have children with a narcissist, employing the 'gray rock' method-a tactic where you make yourself as uninteresting and unresponsive as possible-is the best thing you can do. By not probing them, not persistently seeking more information over a prolonged period, not pursuing them, not reaching out to them, and not discussing anything beyond matters related to the children, you effectively starve them of their supply.
This strategy of silence and indifference chips away at the narcissist's self-confidence, leaving them to face their own reflections in the mirror of introspection. It's a powerful tool that compels them to grapple with the consequences of their actions from an unfamiliar, self-centered perspective.
