The Maiden Voyage | Winter “Blizzard” | New Log Cabin Design | Wall Tent Repair | An Oh S**t Moment

- After some weather and snow delays the bridge is finally complete. This bridge is needed to get to the future cabin build site. The hills are roughly a 35° incline/decline so it’s not an easy trip.
The maiden voyage was almost a disaster as I started sliding backwards down the hill. The only thing that stopped me was a large tree. Once I regained traction, I.made it up the hill pretty easily.
Spent time at cabin cleaning up and rearranging. Also, began sketches of new log cabin build set to start late 2024.
Gave my wall tent some much needed attention that was in need of repair due to the snow, ice and high winds.

Good to see you again. You’ve built a lovely retreat
Much appreciated 👍
Great to see u back!!! That trail to the cabin is crazy!!!! Obviously some clearing work to be done! What a gorgeous spot you have there…… love that cabin!!
Thanks 👍
WOW!! What a ride. The trip back down really revealed the steepness of the Hill. Onward and upward.....Been checking for your videos. It's fun to tag along on your adventures. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Glad to see a new video always enjoys these
Thanks 👍
First you say it, then you do it. Good thing you have a first cabin to change your pants. 😂 coming down must have been a trip not knowing if a slide would cause you to miss bridge with nice gator. Glad you’re safe. 🙌
Thanks for this video. What a warm place. Was having a rough day but this made it okay.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a peaceful place you’ve imagined and created .. / always a pleasure to see what you’re up to. You are a quite gifted man. God Bless you and your family. ❤ from Québec
Many thanks 👍
Great video. Awesome to see you back at the cabin. Nothing loke new fallen snow
Nice. It may not be noticed by many, but I appreciate your superior job of editing each video.
I appreciate that! It’s a very long process to edit these.
Got a good laugh here, I guess where you live that would be considered a blizzard. Buffalo, NY can show you what a real blizzard is like. What you got there is a normal for us but, this year all we got was one big snow fall and that was it ! Keep up the great work, enjoy your videos ! 👍
Haha…”blizzard” was kind of a joke. I went to college up near Buffalo so I know what a real blizzard and white out looks like. Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you for the video. I always look forward to your videos to see the progress you have made. I grew up in Middle Tennessee. I remember as a child in elementary school back in the 60's we got a lot more snow than we do now.
Thanks for watching. It seems like we get 1-2 good snows a year now.
Holy 💩 !!!! That’s definitely a steep Black Diamond side by side trail. Awesome job on the bridge. Stay safe
Good to see you again. Trail building sounds like an excellent idea for some great content.
Just when I didn't think this channel couldn't get better I see you sitting in a Steelers chair 🎉
Looking forward to next video
Love the bridge👍not sure if you have done it or not🤷♀️but may be a good idea to put at least 2x4 railing to to prevent sliding off🥴🤷♀️
Thanks for sharing the building concept of this cabin. Started our 20x20 cabin a year ago in East Tn using same method and loving how it’s turning out. Working on the peaks right now.
Thanks for the comment. Would love to see pics of your build 👍
@@TheOffGridExperience I wouldn’t mind sharing some photos, does the channel have an email? Doesn’t appear I can comment photos
@@codythompson7787 otgtennessee@gmail.com Thanks!
Hey I am really is glad to see you back awesome work that you do I can't wait to see the new construction blessings to you 😊
Yeah that ‘hill’ is nuts!! 😮. Trail definitely needs some work. Glad you didn’t have a load behind you.
You and me both!
❤seriously love 💗 your cabin build been following along for awhile . Wanted to suggest a product for you it is available through HD or online it’s called Lanco Siliconizer we have used this products all over our off grid land for years . Now that you have redone your canvas tent ⛺️ you could mop on this product & it will seal your canvas tent for years !!! No more rotting or leaks & use it under floors on walls etc. my dad even used it over his shingles at his home & no more leaks . Keep it up 👍 bud we love your work & I hope this helps you in the future, you’re welcome 😉
Thanks 👍
You have a beautiful cabin 👍
Thank you!
Had me puckered where I sit!
Great video. Reminds me of the trails in Naples New York.
Love that place
Next episode: making your own Coffin! Great video!
That was Crazy!
Have had that happen in my truck and on ATVs. Your Gator was sliding on top of that deep layer of leaves. The entire hillside will do that. Glad you're okay.
Now you can understand why the covered bridges of wooden designs, next a bridge built from stone and brick by brick or huge concrete pipe, but good effort and well done on that wooden bridge. 😊
The camera shows it well and I saw that coming. That's a steep freaking hill and was thinking if you had a load you would flip backwards right before the cursing started lol
I won’t be hauling anything behind me that’s for sure. 👍
Hell yeah good video brother I see you made me a bridge to get over to my side lol I'm ready man let me know hell yeah I'll come down and build me something
Good morning
Nice spot!!
Thanks 👍
What about some kind of hydraulic pulley system for getting yourself and supplies up that hill? Especially over wet ground and leaves.
It's a beautiful spot and your cabin is so cosy!
I think my next build will be a good Ole fashioned log cabin with trees from the land and stone from the creek. I won't be able to haul materials up that hill like I did with the first cabin.
He just needs tracks instead of wheels
switchbacks, brother. you need to clear a switchback trail.
Thinking the same thing...
I just said the exact same thing.
Need to put a few cows in there and let them figure out the trail.
snow load and wind a very destructive combo.
Man... i was just thinking you need to make a better route with a few switchbacks in it, and the i saw the 💩 on the screen... 😂
I knew you'd make it over the bridge and up the hill.
What was that stuff you were using on your tent to patch up those holes with? I could use some of that myself. Love watching.the work you do it helps me with some ideas. Thanks. Mark D. Florida
It's King Mountain Canvas Repair patch roll. It worked pretty well...I think. We'll see how it holds up.
Thanks for watching 👍
Yikes! Scary slide backwards down the trail! Can you put in switchbacks? Put buckets of rock from creek into soft spots and corners? Can't imagine that steep slope with a trailer or full load in back of gator!!
Definitely needs some work. I won’t be hauling anything up that hill…lol
That's steep, zigzag track, road engineering caming up.😊 woodness goodness has a small tractor, plus chains for snow, but is it as good as your vehicle or not?
welp time to cut in some switchbacks
Been there done that- 4x4 ATV may be- Gator probably not when wet or snowy- zig- zag your trail after crossing bridge reducing climbing angle- this is how we had to approach our incline which was very similar to yours
I’ll try and build up the zig zags a bit. Can’t really go sideways too much. 👍
I did the same thing but was on a tractor, I actually jumped off and miraculously the tractor just stopped and sort of got hung up near a tree. Good thing I was wearing brown overalls.
Haha...I've had a few moments similar with a tractor but it was more rolling sideways.
👍🏻👌✋️❤❤
How about a skid steer and make a razor back road. It's longer but safe.
Brakes don't fail me now moment.....
Did you use treated lumber on that bridge deck ?
No. Standard lumber. Will put a finish on over burn.
Why are you keeping the tent when you have the beautiful cabin ? Using as a bunkie? Love your build, will consider that technique when I’m ready to build a bunkie at our property.
It’s a really relaxing spot by the creek for friends and family to enjoy 👍
So what becomes of this cabin? Guest cabin. Do you build the new cabin with the same building process?
That’s the plan. I always wanted to build a “real log” cabin so we’ll see if I can make it happen. I won’t be able to haul any materials to the new build site so it will be logs and stones for construction. Should be a real challenge.
Good afternoon, awesome cabin that you have build. What are you using to patch the tent? Have a blessed day. M
It was just a canvas repair roll with glue on one side. Got it off Amazon. Worked pretty well.
How does it do in extreme cold? Obviously logs are excellent but didn’t know if these were thick enough to give you the Rvalue and Thermal Break a round or square log gives.
It does pretty well. Once it gets warm, it's fairly easy to maintain temperature. R Vvalue is around 7-8 but it's more dependent on thermal mass and walls heating up.
Glad you didn't slide out and roll over. Does that top support on your rig double as a roll bar or is it just to hold the top in place? I bet your chance of roll over is very high there. So was that damage on the tent or age rot ?
It is a roll bar thankfully. Tent damage had more to do with tarp blowing off on that side and being exposed to snow/ice/high winds.
How many acres you have??? Sure would be nice if you could build a damn for the creek and have a little pond
That green paint isn't cheap, why not go with a cheaper yet durable side by side such as a Kubota?? The 4x4s are strong little things that can accomplish more than what i would have guessed. If you search you can usually find one that is a year or so old and either been traded in or repossessed.
Hi love your videos totally awesome. What product was that that you used to repair the tent ? Thanks
Thanks. It's King Mountain Canvas Repair patch.
Thank you so much
How do you regulate the power supply, generator behind the house?
Hey my brother, where can I get the keith stonebraker booklet, I sure wish you would make one, I watch all your videos over and over. God Bless You Brother.
You can email him at this forum link: www.small-cabin.com/forum/2_599_0.html
I think he is still responding to emails.
Thanks 👍
@TheOffGridExperience thank you my friend. I share your videos with others of like minds, you and your videos are truly a joy and a blessing to watch. Would love to see you do a booklet or something like that, your skills workmanship are awesome . Thank you and God bless you from Florida.
@@terryswails1191 Thank you. Much appreciated 👍
A 35% slope will do that.
💩
Been there. Enough said. 🤦♂️😬
Haha...
Why don’t you do a couple switchbacks???.
I’ll probably do some very minor building up of trail. Not really switch backs but in that vain.
