  • This is my Gravely Pro-50, it's a 1998 model. The mower is mostly original other than items you have to replace like switch's, tires, blades, and some touch up paint here and there. The hydros and Kohler Command are original to the machine. Gravely makes a nice cutting machine and you can find these used for a great price.
    Thanks for watching my video's.

I just picked up an 82 Gravely pro 50. It has a v twin 16 briggs on it and mows like a dream and is even an old belt drive.

A mechanic told me those mowers aren't designed for a sulky and using the sulky messes up the transmission.

Ok so there are three versions of this mower. Two of which use the peerless transmissions and I would agree with you mechanic 100 percent. The shifter pins would bend in the transmissions when people “bump shifting” while the transmission under a load. That would be the Pro 50 and Pro 200 models. Later towards the end of this style mowers run the shift area is a serrated surface so you could not bump shift the transmission. The model in this video is the Pro 300 series and it uses hydro gear pumps. Those are the same pumps that are used on scag, exmark, and just about any other brand mower that was a hydro for this era. And well into the 2000’s.

Best thing about these mowers was they were light weight in the front. You could push down on the handles and “float” the deck over obstacles in the yard.

I'm mowing with my 1989 model.
    14hp kawasaki.
35 years old, two pulls, and were up and running.
The only issue i've had is finding parts
    Especially the spindles

So I worked at the gravely dealer in Knoxville, TN and I’m pretty sure they used those spindles all the way to the end of that deck style. The newer ones were the grease less ones. But they still bolted up no problem. Just used a different pulley up top.

I just picked up this same machine for 1,000. It only has 440 hours on it. It feels new still.

They are a great mower. I use mine for trimming now that I have the scag rider. I like how it feels glued to bank on the yard. It’s a well balanced machine.

@The Fantastic Adventures of Mr. K I haven't cut with it yet, it's been raining like crazy. It felt great when I tested it, when I bought it.

Also- i picked up my Gravely cheap w/ blown motor. Got a 25HP Kohler/and PTO now. Sweet mower. Have to figure out how to add a veilkly😅

Ok mine has a plate of steel bolted to the back that raises the veilky mount a few inches. It’s around 3/8 inch thick. I’ll see if I can attach picture.

I have 2 pro walk 50 belt drive models for sale for $125 for both of them and nobody seems to want them. I’ll be scrapping them next weekend

I noticed on mine that I’m starting to get some deck rot. Some times it gets to a point that you have to go that route. There seems to be a market for some of the parts on eBay if you wanted to part them out. But selling on eBay can be a hassle.

The previous owner of my pro50 found a sulky attachment with a seat and arm rest.

I think that’s what they came with originally. A little ball hitch. Just watch dips in the yard with them. The will burry the handles into your legs fast. Does not feel good.

That long lever controls the mowing speed- i found out.😅. I almost lost the mower when it took off-😅

Ya. lol. I did that the first time I used one as well. Watch the handles as well they can really hit hard on the hip bone if you full stop suddenly on a veilky.

@@thefantasticadventuresofmr7126 i installed John Deere belt tensioning arms in the gravely- much simpler and prettier. I put 2-springs each and the belts are nice and happy. The stock Gravely tensioners are cumbersome and ugly. LoL
