Have been asthmatic since i was a baby. The worst attack in my life happened about 10 years ago on Christmas day. It was so severe, i went silent chest on the way to the ER. Triage nurses didnt even take time to regester me ! Threw on an O2 mask and hustled me back for treatment! My O2 was 78%, grey face, blue lips, purple fingers. Dr was kind but blunt when he told me i almost died. Turns out, after a lifetime of being miserably ill EVERY Christmas we finally discovered im allergic to Christmas trees! 😂
AMEN!! As a fellow RN, the worse asthma patients (adults) that I cared for were the ones on continuous neb tx’s with heliox. For those who’ve never heard of Heliox - It is a combo of O2 & helium (Helium 80%/O2 20% ) - the helium improves gas exchange for patients who do NOT require supplemental O2. No, the patients didn’t talk funny, but they certainly breathed much better. Because the pulse ox is unreliable to measure their O2 sats, we had to draw ABGs (arterial blood gas) every 2 hours - these labs are so painful for the patient. If they were in our IC unit, most had a Swan-Ganz catheter, due to other pulmonary/cardiovascular problems, (to measure interstitial pressures, pulmonary arterial wedges, etc) so it was a little easier for them. It’s so heartbreaking to watch these patients, including our fur babies, struggle so hard to breathe….absolutely heartbreaking. Thank you, from a colleague, for all of your hard work and sacrifices you’ve made doing God’s work. Many blessings to you all!!

Some think that they are not worth it. My husband talks but he was the first to take our Fiest, Prissy, to the vet when needed. He is all rough on the outside but gooey on the inside. Lol
That Cornbread kitty sure is EXTREMELY smart!!! For her to figure out that the plug has something to do with the noise or could stop it is really amazing for a kitty!

Poor baby!! I had childhood asthma, and I felt for her down to my soul. Not being able to breathe is the WORST feeling in the entire world. No joke!! They didn't have nebulizers when I was a kid, or inhalers, we had to be rushed to the hospital for a shot of adrenaline and a week or two in house. I am a nurse, and I thank the good Lord for respiratory meds and therapists. Keep fighting the good fight Willow!!😊

Thank you for continuing to raise awareness about asthma in cats and hot to treat it. Your nebulizer box is just wonderful! I also love that Willow is so relaxed about being in it. I'm sure she's pretty used to it by now, but I wonder if she struggles with actually getting inside. I've seen many veterinary videos where they actually use a very similar set-up to anesthetize small animals who can't wear a mask. Anyone giving you static about her being in there doesn't bear thinking about. Watching Waverly try to rescue Willow was worth the price of admission. Lmao, she's a high-strung little thing, huh?? I had one just like her - she lived to be about 15 and until the very end she would twitch and jump at any little noise or movement. (She could be walking through the living room and I could wiggle my toe and she'd shoot up into the air.) She was built really tiny like Waverly, too - never weighed over 9lbs, except for 1 winter. Missed having Tig and Weezer "helping" to explain Willow's predicament -- and hearing more about your impending fuzzy-grandma-hood. Lol.

Poor precious Willow 😢 I know exactly how you feel as my dear little Casey had asthma and it was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. It hurt so bad to see him suffer, they didn’t have the breathing treatments when he was still alive. He would get prednisone shots, I was a nurse so was able to give them to him. He also was on a maintenance antibiotic. I myself have severe asthma and COPD not from smoking. I’m so glad Willow has you for a Momma.
